I had a fantastic workout this morning! Today I did legs and cardio and after these workouts especially I always feel so full of energy!
Here’s what I did:
2 minutes running on treadmill to warm up
3 sets of leg press—12 reps—70 lbs
3 sets of deadlifts—12 reps—40 lbs
3 sets of hamstring curls—12 reps–60 lbs
3 sets of cable glute kickbacks–12 reps—15 lbs to start then 20 lbs on last two sets
25 minutes on treadmill: 10 minutes running, 10 minutes of sprints and 5 minutes of speed walking at an incline (I HATE sprints but do them anyways because of all the cardio I do, sprints is what really makes me feel the burn. If you are stuck in a rut with your cardio, do sprints. They work. They really really work.)
I was at the gym for about an hour and afterwards felt totally refreshed and strong. Love that!
I made a monster of a salad for lunch today. So big that I couldn’t even finish it all! Here were the components:
about 3 cups of mixed organic greens
1 can chunk light tunaΒ
4 carrot slices, chopped
3 celery stalks, chopped
1/4 cup hummus
1 small bunch grapes (about 10 grapes)
the rest of the whipped cottage cheese container (roughly 1/4 cup)
about 12 kashi crackers (finished the box)
And to finish it off, a HUGE glass of ice water!
I didn’t really eat the cottage cheese because I was getting too full from the hummus/tuna combo. I also left some of the lettuce, celery and carrots but devoured all the grapes and crackers! Here’s what it looked like when I was finished with it:
This should keep me powered up for a good while!! I’m off to Target!

August 4, 2008 at 3:41 pmJenna, I am a slow runner, I rarely run at all actually. But when I do run, it is at 5 mph, what would a sprint be?

August 4, 2008 at 3:47 pmWow! That was a monster salad π
It’s always good to feel energized when you go to Target. It is definitely a place that I love to shop at!
Enjoy the rest of your day off. It seems like you’ve already been so productive.

August 4, 2008 at 4:00 pmI agree about trying to fit sprints into your running routine…at least once a week. I also add hill workouts (tm at incline if I can’t get outside to a hill) at least once a week…that is just some of my old cross country days coming back! Looks like a yummy monster salad!

August 4, 2008 at 4:06 pmI love adding fruit to my salad expecially grapes and you get the nice sweetness during your meal which is good…. also the crackers with a salad is a great satisfying combo instead of crutons.

My sprint routine is running at 5.3 for 1 1/2 minutes then sprinting at 8.1 for 30 seconds. I do this continuously for as long as I can stand it!

August 4, 2008 at 4:49 pmOh my goodness, I think I would have a heart attack. Maybe one day!

August 4, 2008 at 5:03 pmumm yeah! I’m not going to lie. It’s difficult! But it gets your heart pumping and you feel really good afterwards. Start by only doing the sprint workout for 5 minutes. Dedicate 5 minutes of your cardio workout to that then do what you usually do. Every week go up a minute and soon you will be able to rock on with 15 minutes or so! When my personal trainer made me do these a couple years ago I would have punched him if I had any energy left!

August 4, 2008 at 7:27 pmLove the sprint idea! I’m not really a runner (elliptical girl-would love to love running! I’m trying…), but I’m gonna have to try that!

August 4, 2008 at 7:49 pmwhen you do the sprints, does the treadmill adjust from 5.3 for 1.5 minutes to to 8.1 for 30 seconds? Or do you have to manually do that?

August 4, 2008 at 8:14 pmTracy,
Maybe theres some way to make the treadmill do it…but I just adjust it for myself.

August 4, 2008 at 11:17 pmTHat is one monster salad. I don’t think I would be able to finish it myself as well. π Have to try the tuna and hummus combo as it sounds delicious.
