Behind The Butter

To Me, From Me

I bought myself a present today……………..

A BIKE!!!!!!!!

I actually have never owned my own bike. There have been countless times when I wished I owned one, especially when I lived in Charleston and everyone rode bikes everywhere. When I started doing spinning at the gym it got me thinking and then riding Christie’s earlier in the month sort of sealed the deal. I asked for one for Christmas but didn’t get it so I bought one for myself at Target this morning! South Tampa is SO bikeable. My parent’s house is 3 1/2 miles from Ryan’s condo, 4 miles from my yoga studio and about 2 miles from Greenwise. Bayshore (the 7 mile sidewalk next to the bay) leads to everything and I figured its a new way to get my cardio in without going to the gym! I didn’t spend an obscene amount of money on this bike but I think its good enough for what I want to do with it. I took my brother with me to Target to buy it and then I rode it the half mile home and surprised my parents (they were really surprised! haha).

I’m so excited!

To back up a little bit though, my hot yoga flow class was out of hell today. Thom, the instructor, told us he ate too many sweets over Christmas and we all had to suffer for it by doing TONS of core work and chatarungas. To top it off, we practiced in a 95 degree room! I was bright red and sweating the whole time but it was a great workout so I won’t complain.

When I got home around 10:45 I whipped up some fruit and veggie juice in my VitaMix!

This is a combo of 1/2 banana, 1/2 of an organic carrot, 1 stalk celery, 1 orange and 1/2 cup frozen cranberries. I split the juice with my dad so we each had about a cup’s worth:

And then for lunch I had a mug of leftover red lentil soup and a fage with agave:

It wasn’t the most photogenic thing I have ever eaten but it tasted good anyways. 🙂

My bread dough is fermenting right now and I’m about to punch it down, form batards out of it and then let it proof for about 3 more hours until I bake it off. While its proofing I’m going to ride my bike down to Ryan’s and pick up a cookbook out of the closet that I think has the recipe for the homemade gnocchi I plan to make tomorrow night. Too bad he is at work—I can’t surprise him! 🙁

No one worry—I will look both ways before I cross the street and wear my new helmet!!!!

      Jenna 2,

The juice just tasted sweet from the cranberries, orange and banana…I couldn’t tell at all that it had celery and carrot in it! I want to try a spinach one or a kale one sometimes soon….

Yay! Bikes!!! I invested in a bike last year and have not regretted it one single day. Not only is it good for the environment, your body, and your wallet (no gas cost), it’s a great way to “get away from it all”. Kind of like running. It’s just you and the bike and the road… I wish it weren’t so windy here, I’d go for a ride right now to celebrate your new purchase!

I live in by the beach in Ca where everything is bike or bus distance away but I have been home for the holidays and I forgot whats its like to have everything I need so close. I dont know how people who live in the suburbs could not own a car. I love living by the beach. You will totally love the independence that comes with riding a bike everywhere. Although it does take a little bit longer to get places.

My yoga teacher was the same! She asked if we ate too much during the holidays and proceeded to give us lots of deep twists and of course chaturangas. 😛
