Told you I’d be right back!
Okay. I’m ready to talk about it now. It’s not really a pretty story though so beware.
Last night, we went to go see Inception. It was the first time Almanzo and I had ever been to the movies together so I was pretty excited. I was so excited, in fact, that I made Almanzo pick me up early, just so we wouldn’t miss the previews (my favorite part), and because of this he didn’t have time to eat dinner beforehand. So, he ate the hot dogs from the movie theater.
It was a bad decision.
I should have warned him but he’s one of those guys that has to figure things out on his own and if I would have touched his arm and gently said, “dear, two foot long hot dogs right now might not be a good idea,” he would have eaten them anyway. That’s just the type of guy he is. I guess I’m sort of the same way once I set my heart on eating something so I have no room to judge. Unfortunately though, that decision caused him to come down with food poisoning.
Moral of the story? Hot dogs just can’t be trusted these days. What’s the world coming to?

In other news, I just enjoyed a delicious pressed turkey and havarti sandwich for lunch.

Ouch, poor guy! What a good girlfriend you are to take care of him though.
The previews are my favorite, too! I thought I was the only one!
Guys, guys. guys. My dude wuold have done the same, then be in denial about is “disease”, and then act like a baby so I’d take car of him
I have a panini press, cost me 18$, second love of my life

Aw man! I hope Almanzo makes a speedy recovery. I used to work in a movie theater, and I avoided those hotdogs like the plague!
Mmm havarti….
i adore the previews too…and no one else seems to really understand that! they’re so fun though, i like knowing what i have to look forward to
Sheesh, I didn’t think there was much more that could go wrong with a hot dog! Poor guy, hope he’s better soon!
Mmm… to paninis! I use a George Forman for mine!
Food poisoning is the worst
I hope he feels better soon!
yikes, i hope he gets feelin better.
i’m loving your colorful cherries!
Oh No! Not a good memory for your first outing to the movies:( Hope he feels better.
Your sandwich looks great! Between the photo of it and the Food Network channel that I am similtaniously watching as I type this……I’m hungry
Poor guy! I hope he is feeling better fast. I am excited to see Caitlin on The Today Show as well!!! YAY!
Oh no…poor Almanzo!! That is terrible! But on another note that sandwich looks wonderful.
have such a similar story about my fiancee eating food from the movies too:( at least we no longer have to worry about waiting in lines for snacks since he has sworn them off.
how did you like inception? been trying to decide if i should see it or not…but everyone says i have to!
my boyfriend and i went to see inception last night too (no hot dogs–just way too much popcorn for both of us!). what did you think? i loved it!
You may not have a fancy sandwich press, but you do have fancy, colorful Le Cruset ; )
Hunni has done that enough times that he listens…occasionally. Have fun making Almanzo feel better.
Oh no, I hope he’s feeling better soon! I’ve had mad food poisoning before and it is definitely not nice.
PS. scratch what I said in my comment on your last post about my blender being my favourite gadget. I purchased a sandwich press a couple of weeks ago (for $28!!!) and it is the love of my life. Not joking.
Hotdogs are one of my food weaknesses. Especially from Costco, but they recently made me ill so I’m not so sure they can be trusted either.
Oh no!!! Food poisoning?! You guys should really call the movie theatre. That’s terrible.
Your lunch looks amazing. That’s too bad about Almanzo. My husband had food poisoning from a sample at a health food store, it’s the worst.
Aw, that sucks. Here in Austin we have two theaters that have really good hot dogs—all beef, fresh heated, etc. But at the others? I don’t know. Something about shiny, rolling pink logs on a conveyer just doesn’t appeal…
Hope you liked the movie!
Oh no – sorry to hear the BF is not well!!!
Congrats to Catlin! I’ll order her book now.
Poor Almanzo! My son and I went to see ‘Camelot’ at the Pantages in LA. A lovely old historic theatre. Then out to Chinatown for dinner. The sweet and sour pork had a bit of an iffy undertone, thankfully, he ordered something else. Within hours, I had a 4-alarm migraine. Up all night over the toilet sounding like Dante’s 9th Ring of Hell.
Sipping ginger ale, herb tea, celery-chicken broth helped. Speedy recovery I hope!
PS oops, I guess could have done w/o the graphic sound effects alongside the sandwich rave. My bad
God, Jenna, even I won’t eat hot dogs – especially from a stand!
oh nooooo! hope he is feelin better
That reminds me of a movie quote.. well not the food poisoning.. but the hotdog and movie!
Frank Navasky: A HOTDOG is singing. You need quiet while a hotdog is singing?
PS that was from You’ve Got Mail. Accidentally hit submit before I finished typin there -oops!
Your sandwich looks FANTASTIC!!!
The hubby and I went to see Inception on Sunday and we both really liked it! What did you think?
I always think of that Seinfeld episode where Kramer eats the old hot dog from the cinema so Lloyd Braun won’t feel like he’s “crazy”!!
…anyone remember that?!! …or I’m the only Seinfeld nut perhaps…
My hubby is the same way…..It is very annoying that they have to learn the hard way instead of simply listening to us.
Congrats to Caitlin! What an accomplishment.
I love the previews. Hot dogs freak me out – I never know what is in there!
I hope Almanzo feels better soon! Food poisoning is the pits!
Oh no! That sucks
Hope he is better soon!
haha, my husband did the same thing. He had to walk out towards the ending!!
this posting totally made me laugh. not at him of course though.
Oh no! Food poisoning is the worst. I came down with it a few years ago and then got stuck on a shuttle bus in traffic. There is no situation more desperate than that. On a more positive note, that lunch looks beautiful!
I think I’d stick with the Popcorn and Snowcaps. Save the hotdogs for a baseball game. Hope he’s feeling better soon!
fun fact: some big chain movie theatres never change their hot dogs. if it doesn’t sell, it stay there. all. day. long. and if it still doesn’t sell by the end of the day, they might even put it back on the next day. gross. moral of the story, do not eat the hot dogs!
