Ta-dah!!!!!!!
The cake did come out better than I expected (phew!!!) and even though its not perfect by any means, I really love it. Really, really love it. I think its perfect for my first wedding creation and now that I’ve conquered it, I know I can do it again. On the side is my sugar greeting card that I finished tonight as well. The entire card is, well, edible I suppose. The card itself is made from pastillage and then the flowers are made from gum paste with an edible shimmer powder on them.

I couldn’t resist….
Here are some of my friend’s cakes! They did an amazing job!
Andre’s cake:
Alia’s cake with the gorgeous gum paste flowers (I think making these flowers is her calling in life):
And last but not least, Chef Erin’s halloween cake! 🙂
Whew!!! To back up a little, let’s go back to dinner 🙂
A-m-a-z-i-n-g yet again! I met my friends, Andre, Alia, Jack, and Erin at Woodlands for dinner tonight in the midst of a horrible storm. We ordered everything family style to share and I couldn’t even attempt to pick a favorite…
We started with the assorted appetizers. I picked at (and probably at 1/4th of) a samosa. I wanted to save my appetite for all the food to come!
We ordered the chana masala, aloo gobi, palak paneer and some curry with fruit I didn’t try. We also ordered for the table naan stuffed with potatoes and naan stuffed with peas and cauliflower. SO GOOD!
Here was my plate. And, yes, I tried the paneer to branch out a little bit. It was strange since I haven’t eaten cheese in a while and seemed like a cross between mozzerella and tofu. Good though! I loved the spinach it was in…that might have been my favorite thing actually! Since last time I ate way too much food here and felt insanely bloated afterwards, I tried to pace myself a little bit more tonight and put smaller portions on my plate rather than loading up. I knew I would thank myself later and I did! I stopped when I was full and didn’t feel like I ate too much, which is so easy to do at places like this! Around 9:00 I snacked on some organic vanilla wafers from the big bag of snacks (sorry, no picture, my hands were full of royal icing and fondant at the time!)
It’s 12:15 and Dexter and I are calling it a night…see you tomorrow!

June 27, 2008 at 1:30 pmJenna, that cake is a-mazing! The idea for a blue cake is so unique and the way it contrasts with not only the brown branch but also the pink flowers is wonderful! (And I go to art school and know a thing or two about color mixing and theory.) The cake is incredibly cute but also very sophisticated!
