Breakfast

Welcome To My Studio

Happy Friday!

I found a patch of weak wireless signal here in my empty living room turned yoga studio—

IMG_8264

I was all set to do a yoga podcast this morning but then I remembered that the sound on my laptop seems to have….broken. It worked perfectly fine on Tuesday and now there’s nothing. That really, really stinks. I have a pretty old laptop and might be in need of an upgrade in the not so distant future….

So, no yoga. Instead, I utilized the weak patch of signal to catch up on my emails! I’m so behind! I made some almond buttery oats for breakfast—

Half a farm fresh melon!

IMG_8265

The oats were pretty basic—1/2 cup oats with 1 cup soymilk, banana, cinnamon, sea salt and a plethora of almond butter. Mmmm mmm gooooood. Reminds me of home. 🙂

I then set to work on making my first cup of coffee here. I have this tiny french press that I got from BlogHer Food and a really, really good bag of freshly ground extra dark french roast so I boiled some water on the stove and attempted. Ehhhh coffee grounds went everywhere and it was a minor explosion…in the end, I produced about a half cup of REALLY strong coffee. I guess it was worth it! Putting a larger french press on my list. Check check.

Stayed up really late last night and unpacked everything! My trunk is still full of pictures for the walls but I’m waiting to hear on some news before I start totally decorating. Unfortunately there’s a slight chance I might only stay in this place for a month. Don’t ask. It’s stressful. Trust me…everything is not as perfect as it may seem on your side of the laptop! There’s always something…I’m definitely not leaving Healdsburg but I just might have to find a different location. Bah. It really stinks because I LOVE this place I’m at right now and reallyyyy don’t want to move again.

Can’t figure out the heat and am sitting bundled in blankets and robes. Going to make a dash to a hot shower then get to work. Catch you laterrrr!

How coarse were the coffee grounds? French presses work best with coarse grounds. I’ve been doing the boil water on the stove trick for a while without too much trouble so maybe tomorrow’s coffee will be a success? 🙂

Jenna, here is how you do french press.

First-get a electric T-pot. I have one just for this purpose. It boils water in 90 seconds. they have many at Bed Bath, amazon, etc. perfect for oats, coffee, tea, etc.

Then my perfect cup is if you are making 4 cups (I guessing your press has notation on side for # of cups???), then 3 Tablespoons measured coffee grinds(ground to FRENCH PRESS but any works). So 2 cup, then 1 T coffee grinds.

If none, measure the water so you know where 1-2 cups is on side and mark with perm maker.

Pour boiling water over grinds, stir!! Very important. Wait 4 minutes and then put plunger in and press.

You will have nice froth on top. MMmmmmmmmm.

    Jenna,

About your podcast…..you may want to try hooking up those mini speakers they sell to the laptop. For some reason when we’ve had sound issue problems, we’ve still been able to get it to work through speakers hooked up. Or possibly download the podcast to an mp3 player.

What a cute space…hope you get to stay if that is your desire.

I completely loved your farm to table post….what an enjoyable day that must have been!

    Hi Jenna,
I think I’ve seen your laptop in pictures – black macbook? I have one too and the sound stopped working completely on mine over the summer. I brought it in to the Apple store, they replaced some major part, and it was covered by Applecare…definitely worth looking into if you have Applecare – once the part came in, it took only a few hours to do the repair.

    Have a wonderful weekend!

Uggg…I HATE moving. After my last move I swore I wouldn’t move ever again without hiring movers. They’re expensive, but my friends are no longer lured in by pizza and beer.
You just went through a huge transition so it’s to be expected that it will take a little while for everything to get settled. Keep your chin up!

If you do move it is a true sign that your current spot is not the right one for you.If it’s in the cards,it will be.
I have no doubt that it will work out happily-whether in the “attic” or perhaps in an even cuter spot!

Yum your oatmeal sounds so good. We don’t get almond butter in new zealand 🙁 There’s so much yummy food that I see on here and on other blogs that I can’t make because we don’t have the ingredients in this country!! GUTTING.
I hope you don’t have to move for your sake. It would suck for you to feel stressed out about it. And coz that studio is super cute! 😀

I admire your positivity even though I know there’s more than meets the eye on the other side of the computer! It’s tough moving and getting settled. I moved to a new city by myself, not knowing anyone, with no car and moved into a studio. I slept on the floor for about a week and ate off a box watching listening to a radio – yikes!! I don’t even want to talk about having to get furniture – piece by piece – and then trying to build it – I kept waiting for my tiny bed to fall apart lol:) Now when I think back to that, I don’t know how I had the energy or mind to deal with it and not break down. And I certainly wasn’t eating as well as you. Frozen pizzas and subway were a staple let’s just say (don’t judge please!!). Take care and you’ll do great! (BTW, I just started a blog and am learning so much from ALL of you guys here – I’ve already picked out a few more blogs from the bunch here and have tons more to go through – thank you everybody!)
