Behind The Butter

What We’re Loving Lately

IMG_3320

I’m sorry I haven’ t been around more this week! We’ve had a tough time with teething lately – Grayson’s bottom two teeth came in no problem in January but these top two…..whew. Night and day. Poor guy has every single teething symptom in the book (including cold-like symptoms, diaper rash, night wakings…) and it’s just been so sad to watch! He’s miserable and I’ve been exhausted. However, I am happy to report that both teeth have know broken through so hopefully things will start to get better. I’ve heard the most painful part is right before the teeth actually cut. Poor guy.

Anyway! Happy Friday! I thought I would share some of my favorites over the past few weeks. Enjoy!

Athleta High Waisted Metro Leggings. These are like the perfect legging for exercise in my opinion! They are smooth, sleek, good looking and suck everything right into place. An Athleta just opened up literally across the street from my house so it’s starting to get dangerous…

Barre3 + Every Mother Counts.  I was so happy when I saw that Barre3 had partnered with one of my very favorite nonprofits. EMC is committed to making pregnancy and childbirth safe for every mother around the world. We are so lucky to live in a place with amazing medical care…something we might not think about too often in our day to day life but it’s true. In my own labor + delivery, when I either needed a vacuum extraction or emergency c-section, that really rang true for me. Grayson and I might not have been so lucky had we not had been in a place with such great care. I love what EMC is doing and fully support their mission.

Hylands Teething Tablets. Saving our lives these days! Well, that and ibuprofen.

Shakeology. Still loving our daily shakes! This stuff is expensive but after two weeks of drinking it every day, I can honestly say I DO feel different. Adam and I make a shake every morning for breakfast with it, frozen bananas, almond milk and almond butter and it easily gets me through the morning feeling satiated and energized. Some of you commented on it being a fad or whatever, but to each their own, I suppose. I love that it’s made with all natural ingredients and you can’t argue with all the superfoods it contains. I actually became a Beachbody coach just so I could snag the sweet discount (this stuff is expensive!). I believe, as a coach, you save about $30 per bag and you also get pretty hefty discounts on all the programs, like the T25 that we are doing and loving right now. If you’re also interested in getting the discount to try stuff out send me an email and I will help you. I truly would never endorse a product I don’t personally believe in, but after a few weeks of drinking this and doing T25, I feel like a whole new person.  I need to write a separate post on our experience with the workouts, but we are LOVING it. I wasn’t doing this to lose any weight, but in three weeks time I have already gone down a jean size and Adam has lost a little over 5 lbs. Not bad!

IKEA Smock Bibs. You all have commented on my Instagram posts, asking where I get the bibs I use on Grayson. They are the cheapo IKEA smocks! I just love them. No other bib catches all the mess that this child produces while eating. Seriously, if I use a different bib, it’s a total outfit change right after he eats. I need to get some more because we only have two and two is NOT enough in this house!

The Everlane “Crew” Sweatershirt. I’m wearing it currently so it’s on my mind. Adam commented on how much he loves it on me and it’s so, so comfy. I’ve been living in it lately. It’s super flattering with jeans!

Super Charge Me cookies. Remember these?! I used to make them all the time a few years ago and then I burned out on them. Well, they are back! These are calorie-free to us breastfeeding mamas since oats are good for our milk supply. 😉

The Girl on the Train. Just finished this and loved it! I practically read the whole book on my iphone while rocking a miserable teething baby in the dark. It was so, so, so good. I need to write a book post soon — I’ve been reading some awesome books lately!

    Hi Jenna-
I would be interested in becoming a coach so I can get the discounts! I just ordered the sampler packets of shakeology, but in the future I will want to order the bags!
    Thanks!

Ashley, can you email me at jenna@eatliverun.com? It’s easier for me to write all this out in an email then in the comments. It’s super easy to get set up though and I can help you!

If your yoga instructor certification is still current, be sure to sign up,next time you’re in Athleta, for their instructor discount program. You have to renew it annually, but you save 30% (which makes shopping there even more dangerous!)

Hey Jenna! I would also be interested in the BB discount. However, do you have to be a coach to get it?

      April 3, 2015 at 4:19 pm

Yeah, you do…but you don’t have to do anything as a coach. I totally just signed up to get the discount. 😉 If you email me, I can explain more – it’s a lot to write in the comments!

The ingredients you put in your smoothie have nutrients as is. Why not just add spinach, romaine, cucumber or celery and a natural protein powder or greens powder? Sorry, I guess I just don’t get it. IT’s a hell of a lot cheaper than buying bags of processed powder – and it’s Real Food. People are always looking for a quick-fix-get-scheme to gain energy, lose weight, look good, get healthy…and the answer is really simple: Eat Real Food and Exercise. There is no magic pill, potion or powder. Google smoothies by Kimberley Snyder (not saying you have to take her whole approach) or Vega (not saying you need to take that approach either!) – just good, basic nutrients. I’m just really surprised you fell into this…but I guess like you said, to each his or her own…everyone goes through phases. I feel in a year or two or three, you’ll have a very different view of this phase of your life.

Hope your son feels better soon!

      * or you could add hemp seeds, chia seeds and flaxseeds to a smoothie (instead of powders) – full of nutrients too!

I do agree with this, but I think shakeology is a pretty nutritious, balanced and easy option for busy folks. My sister has a crazy work schedule and has been doing shakeology and loves it! In an ideal world, we’d probably all make awesome smoothies loaded with lots of great stuff everyday..or at least I would, haha.

Everyone has something – work, kids, both, training, etc etc etc. It’s about priorities and if it takes too long to throw ingredients in a blender to blend…well, the world has officially come up with excuses for everything! You can also throw ingredients in the blender overnight (Caitlin of HTP blog does this and she has 2 kids so it can be done). I’m just giving options – that’s all. If it works for you – great! But I don’t like hearing excuses that it’s “hard” to eat real food.

Look into the book “It Starts With Food” too – a good, informative read. You don’t have to take all of it too extreme – but can glean some good mind/body tips from it too.

Hi Jenna! I just had a question about the Shakeology! Do you use the regular powder or the vegan? I’m so on the “fence” about this product because of all it’s heath claims & how trendy it currently is! However since I see you as a blogger who is very aware of what they’re eating, I was just curious what you think about the ingredients since I’ve heard some not so great things about whey protein isolate. I’ve been considering ordering this product but I just need some more info! I’m glad to hear that you are feeling wonderful! Happy Easter 🙂

In case you’re interested in trying but not sure yet about buying a whole bag, some coaches do Shakeology “challenges”, 5-10 days. It’s a good way to try it out. It sounds like Jenna is not an active coach, so she might not do them, but a lot of us coaches do 🙂 Also, there’s a 30 day bottom of the bag guarantee 🙂

Shakeology is a pyramid scheme. How disappointing that you are promoting it.

    • Camila
      April 3, 2015 at 11:13 pm

It is not a pyramid scheme. Pyramid schemes are illegal. Shakeology is a Beachbody product. Beachbody is a MLM (Multi-Level Marketing Company). You should do a little research before assuming things.

Following the link to your birth story gave me such a déjà vu. The hypnobirthing preparation, the birth plan, the begging for an epidural, the pushing for two hours, the vacuum to avoid c-section…
All happened to me to recently in that order. Crazy!

Those bibs from IKEA are the best! I wish my son would actually wear them without freaking out though, hehe.

Teething sounds like the worst! Looking forward to your T25 workout update 🙂 Glad you found a shake that works so well for you guys. I wish there weren’t so many haters. Who cares what you choose to drink/eat!! I’ve been going back and reading your posts back when you trained for/completed a century ride. I’m doing my first one in three weeks! Yikes!!

I just have to say, I rarely comment (always read), I am a huge advocate for real foods but, if this is working for you, then GO FOR IT! Always blows me away when people get so finger pointy (not a word :)) when it is all about finding out what works for you in your phase of life. I am aso encouraged by your blog and find it hurtful when people respond negatively. Just my two cents!

Oh teething. I blame everything on teeth. My son woke up at 5am “must be teeth”. A molar just cut through and I’m praying PRAYING this brings back naps (he’s hating his crib for naps) and is waking at 5am….

i have to say, it makes me feel so much better about our teething situation when i read about yours. we have a very young teether (she’s got 5 going on 6 teeth and isn’t even 8 months old yet) and it’s awful how much it affects every.single.thing, especially sleep. i’ve been one exhausted mama for the last month. i feel like i’m past the point of the amber necklace working, are you still using yours? if so, do you think it helps? for us, i just think we have a sensitive little one and ibuprofen is what we need to help her, but i’d love your thoughts.

Love that you are seeing good results for Shakeology and T-25. I love my daily shakes! As well as T-25. I am starting Beta after a few week break to heal my big toe. Watch out for your feet, T-25 is pretty hard on them!

HI Jenna! I love your blog so much read it all the time. Girrrrrl SAVE YOUR MONEY!! I talked to my doctor and nutritionist, they both said NO TO SHAKEOLOGY but YES TO T25. After getting advice from my nutritionist I went to my local Health food store and asked for something that can give me more protein and nutrients in my smoothie. There were several choices and I mix them with whole foods like bananas, blueberries, kahle, ect. It cost me less then 50 cents a day to make the smoothies and I feel great, lost all my pre baby weight with the help of T25 too, which I GOT OFF CRAIGSLIST for $25! Just wanted to share this with you and your readers, moms helping moms is an awesome thing! Hope you all have a great day!

Girl on the Train was really good! I actually listened to it on audiobook (something new for me – great for stroller walks!!).

Teething. UGH. Jenna, it is miserable. Micah had a bunch of teeth coming in for what seemed like months…finally I think we are past that batch. I thought I was going to lose my mind. He was so pitiful and miserable.

I’ve been intrigued by Shakeology! Good for you. I’m SO happy you are feeling good…I started a new workout regimen a couple of months ago and feel SO much better. Still trying to get the food under control, I know the big difference comes from food. I’ve never been one to skip meals, but lunch has become an issue for me…so you are inspiring me to think more about smoothies for lunch. Have a great weekend girl!
