Happy Friday!
I am quite tired this morn’! Last night I had a hard time falling asleep and Ryan didn’t end up getting home until just about midnight….so, just guessing, I would say I didn’t fall asleep until 12:30. Meh.
I told my parents last night I would meet them for spinning at 8:30 so that meant getting up at 7 to eat first. I’m tired, but at least I ate something tasty for breakfast!
Yummy overnight oats! This is a combo of:
- 1/3 cup oats
- 1 tbsp Ruth’s Chia Breakfast cereal
- 1/3 cup water
- 1/2 cup 2% Fage
- 1 scoop raw almond butter
- drizzle pure maple syrup
- cinnamon
- a few dried strawberries from the UK!
I am obsessed with these little guys! They taste just like those chewy fruit snacks I adored when I was little!
As for the oatmeal, I think we all know how to make it by now but for any newbies out there all you do is combine the oats, chia and water in a bowl and let sit in the fridge overnight. In the morning, stir in the almond butter and yogurt and top with any fruit toppings!
All together with yet another grapefruit + yerba mate tea in my happy mug
If you are wondering why I have been eating so many grapefruits its because Ryan accidentally bought a huge bag of them instead of oranges! He wanted oranges to juice in the juicer and even though the bag clearly says “FLORIDA GRAPEFRUIT”, he thought they were oranges. Boys. Good thing I like ’em! Especially when soaked overnight in a drizzle agave or honey 🙂
Like I said, I’m meeting both my parents at the gym for “Ultimate Spin” (spinning + strength and abs) at 8:30. Afterwards my plan is to take an incredibly long steam and shower at the gym.
I’m meeting Sarah for lunch at the health food store at 11:20! See you in a bit!

May 22, 2009 at 5:44 amHave fun at SPIN!!!! You are so brave. Cardio is not my strong suit =)
What a great breakfast too! It’s so funny to me how I used to think having anything but hot oats for breakfast was a crime since they are so gooooood, but now I crave things much like your breakfast. I can’t get enough cold cereal and smoothies. YUM!!!!
Have a great day!

May 22, 2009 at 6:01 amThe thought of breakfast always gets me out of bed! It’s great. Those oats look amazing.

Haha, when I read that, I thought you meant it’s a good thing you like boys, especially soaked overnight. I thought, wow, doesn’t that make the boys soggy? 😀
Hee hee hee I’m a dork.

May 22, 2009 at 6:29 amJenna,
You’ve probably answered this question before, but I noticed in your last post that you had a fruit Chobani. Have you ever tried the 2% Fage with fruit mix in–they’re amazing! I was wondering which you prefer, or how you would compare them. Thanks 🙂

May 22, 2009 at 6:30 amI will totally rise for food as well. As soon as my feet hit the floor I start thinking of what to eat for b-fast. Gets my metabolism going!
I still want to try chia seeds, they’re just so darn expensive. Do you think they’re worth the lofty price tag??
So cool that both your parents participate in spin as well. Have fun!!
Abby
May 22, 2009 at 6:31 amI’m newer to the blog, so that’s the first time I’ve seen the recipe for overnight oats and feel like a dork asking, but what’s chia?
To completely change subjects, another bonus of the manicure yesterday is that now you look like a hand model in your blog photos modeling your strawberries.

May 22, 2009 at 6:34 amGah, I’m so jealous of you American’s ability to get awesome international food delivered! The highlight of my upcoming trip to the UK will be going to Wholefoods and trying some of the stuff you’ve mentioned on the blog… from what I understand, a lot of the stock is similar to the US stores!
You can’t have food products of any kind sent to Australia, so I have to be content just eating with my eyes… 🙁

May 22, 2009 at 3:36 pmWhen my boyfriend was a teenager, his mom sent him to the store to pick up lettuce. He came home with cabbage. His grandmother laughed so hard, she couldn’t talk and had to sit down. I asked him to pick out a cucumber, and he came home with a zucchini! Too funny!

May 23, 2009 at 9:36 amQuestion. I would love to make the overnight oats for my husband, but he can’t do dairy at all. Any non-dairy fage substitute ideas?
Thanks. Love the blog, as usual. Totally obsessed.

May 23, 2009 at 3:10 pmMandy,
I would just soak the oats in something like hemp or almond milk overnight and then in the morning add a splash more! Let me know how it works!
