Getting My Girl Power On

Hello everyone!

Before I forget:

HUGE giveaway in the morning!!!!!! Stay tuned, you don’t want to miss this…..trust me!

Now—I hope you all have had a happy healthy afternoon. 🙂 I snacked on a pre-exercise Super Charge Me cookie—-
IMG_0977.JPG

And then headed upstairs to run on the treadmill since it was storming and I didn’t feel like getting soaking wet in the parking lot. I had a GREAT run!! Total time was 40 minutes—I ran for 20 and walked for 20, all while watching Dr.Oz on Oprah. I don’t want to say everything is perfect now with the orthotics though because I am sooo scared of jinxing myself! All I know is that I’ve run a few times now, am slowly increasing my mileage and have zero pain whatsoever. Now my main priority is to keep on staying healthy while slowly increasing my mileage…..race day is in 4 months and counting! I SO have time…right?! 🙂

My brother was always so amazed at my ability to even run three miles without stopping. The brief times we did get together and go outside for a run he whined the whole time and was baffled how I could possibly have the endurance to run so far! I would run in the grass and John on the sidewalk, shirt off and tanning oil on to “kill two birds with one stone”. He was so proud of me for committing to run a half marathon to support cancer all the way out in San Francisco, and even told his teachers in school how cool he thought that was. So, I’m not only running this race for the thousands of people that can’t run and are in hospital beds with cancer, but I’m also running for my brother. He would like that.

Now before I start getting all teary eyed, let’s bring on the food! I sort of treated myself to the perfect evening.

First of all there was dinner though—

A BIG salad bowl with:

  • just about an entire bag of organic greens
  • 1/2 cucumber
  • cherry tomatoes
  • blueberries
  • a Sunshine Burger
  • almost a serving of Mary’s Gone Crackers (love these!)
  • 2 scoops Sabra’s hummus
  • hot sauce! obviously 🙂

IMG_0979.JPG

It was delicious!! Especially when served with the last bit of the French wine from the other night…..

If that’s not great I don’t know what is. I rented this and “He’s Just Not That Into You” from Blockbuster this afternoon mainly because I can’t seem to get through a movie without crying and I’m just craving girl power goodness. Tomorrow night I shall watch the latter!
Of course there was the last slice of vegan carrot cake for dessert….sniff sniff 🙁
IMG_0983.JPG
Pretty much the best dessert EVER. I will be making this again soon. I am seeing vegan carrot cake cupcakes in the very near future! 😉
I am in the process of making Ryan a special dinner! He’s been so stressed out lately that I thought he could use it. I’m making him a cheese quesadilla in a spinach tortilla (the boy actually owns a quesadilla maker) and fish that he caught a few weeks ago and froze. I defrosted the fish (I think its hogfish) and seared it in a bit of extra virgin olive oil with Old Bay seasoning and then drizzled his favorite mojo sauce on top. He’s on his way home now—hopefully he will like it! 🙂
As for me, the movies over and I’m relaxing with a cup of tea. I can’t even tell you how much better I feel today than yesterday….last night at this time I was already getting into bed to read. Thank goodness for ENERGY in the form of greens! 🙂

Thank you all for the e-cookbook recipes!!!! I’ve been working pretty hard on it and so far the book has about 40 pages. Lookin’ good!!! I can’t wait to try some of these recipes myself. If you haven’t already, please send me your recipe + picture (f you have it) to HelpJennaRun@gmail.com so you, too, can be included! The book should be ready for donation purchase early next week after I put the finishing touches on it. Again, the book will “sell” for $10. I’m hoping this fundraiser will be even bigger and better than the last one!

    What a perfect evening!

Don’t worry about only having 4 months until the 1/2 marathon. I am a lot less fit than you (trust me I am!) and I ran one with three months of training. I’m sure you will rock it!

    Hi Jenna!
I was just wondering, do you have to cook the sunshine burger? if you do, how do you do it? do you use the microwave or stovetop?

sunshine burger interests me a lot esp with its awesome short and sweet ingredient list but I have no clue how i am supposed to cook it.

      junghwa,

I usually just cook it quickly in the microwave although I’ll admit that they taste better if you take the time and cook them for five minutes on the stove! I love them because they are so quick, easy and HEALTHY! 🙂

Jenna, I’m so glad to hear that the orthotics are working out for you. I think you finally found your answer! And it’s so wonderful that you are running, in part, for your brother — what a beautiful thing to do. Every time I watch the Sex and the City movie, I cry, because it came out RIGHT AFTER my own wedding, and the scene when Carrie trys on “the dress” reminds me exactly of when I tried on my own. It was even big and fluffy like hers. I think you’ll really enjoy He’s Just Not That Into You — it was a better movie than I expected. Hope you and Ryan enjoyed dinner!

Hahaha, that’s really funny Jenna! Last week I went to the video store for the first time in, like, forever, and rented the exact same two movies, lol! The Sex And The City one was so good, I was actually really pleasantly surprised! And the other one is sweet too, happy endings rock! 🙂 Yay for treating yourself, your evening sounds gorgeous. And congrats on the run, that is so lovely what you said about your brother and what inspires you to run. Take care! Big smiles xyx

I just watched “He’s Just Not That Into You” this past weekend. I hate to be the one to break this to you but you MAY cry at the end, I teared up a bit haha. Sorry!

That is so sweet about the half marathon and your brother. I have a little brother too, and I hope he grows up to be as sweet as your brother sounded.

I think if I had those crackers I would just randomly laugh to myself about the name (Mary’s Gone Crackers!) but I’m strange.

    Hello darling!

Girl power is something we crave on the occasion and when we get it, it’s like a big slice of heaven! The “Sex and the City” movie is perfect to cure that craving – and “He’s Just Not That Into You” tops the list too! Can’t wait to see what you think of it!

I’m not much of a runner either but since I have started putting cardio back into my routine I’ve found that I can go a bit longer (for faster) each time I do it! I always hated running because I’m just no good at it! I’m more of a weightlifter myself, BUT I’ve been enjoying my runs lately!

Both of your (you and Ryan’s) dinners sound great! Mmm… cheese quesadillas bring back childhood memories for me.

Glad to hear your orthodics are helping! I have plantar fasciitis and I too have to wear them when I’m running, and even just around the house or neighborhood. Wouldn’t want to risk injury a second time!
