Clearly any kind of green monster is my fave smoothie, since you get 2-3 servings of veggies in a smoothie! But I love to do a “Mexican” chocolate GM, by adding Chocolate Amazing Meal, a tbsp of unsweetened cocoa powder, and a couple shakes of cinnamon! Yum!

I love the cherry chocolate bomb, but my slightly cheaper go-to is half a frozen banana, two large handfuls of spinach, a scoop of Ovaltine (poor girls’ chocolate super food) and a few splashes of water. I need a magic bullet! I hate washing my blender everyday.

Teeny bit xanthan gum, full frozen banana, small handful frozen berries and a cupa milk with tons of spinach is my FAVOURITE everyday staple! A vitamix would be so awesome for smaller, faster smoothies than my chunky blender!

I have wanted one of these forever!! So excited. My favorite is simple yet delicious: 1/2 frozen banana, greek yogurt (I don’t measure, so we’ll say a “dollop”), almond milk (more than a “splash”), water and two hefty handfuls of spinach. Once in awhile I get crazy and add other frozen fruit too. Simple and delicious! Perfect for an IBS sufferer who can’t handle too much by way of raw vegetables, even spinach!

– handful frozen blueberries
– 2 handfuls baby spinach leaves

Hi Jenna! I would loooove a magic bullet. I was never a huge smoothie person until recently. Now I make them all the time…..using my shoddy broken blender. (It’s my fault – I dropped it.) I am training for a marathon and drink this chocolate-peanut butter- banana version after my long runs. I read where chocolate milk or peanut butter and banana are both great to have after a long run because they both have a 4:1 carb to protein ratio. I mixed the two together for the ultimate recovery drink. It tastes like a milkshake!

Sarah’s Favorite Recovery Drink

* 1 cup skim milk
* 2 1/2 T. cocoa powder
* 1 T peanut butter (I used smooth)
* 1/2 banana
* few cubes of ice

Blend for 1-2 minutes until smooth and frothy. Drink and enjoy!

Sometimes I also add in a few handfuls of spinach:)

I LOVE Smoothies. Kiwis are a must! I usually add some strawberries, spinach, soymilk or greek yogurt and ice to make the perfect smoothie.

Julie @savvyeats April 27, 2010 at 11:58 am

My blender just broke, so my smoothies aren’t very…smooth anymore. The food processors just doesn’t cut it!

Spinach + Greek yogurt + Protein powder + Frozen berries + POM juice!

Reply

S. April 27, 2010 at 11:58 am

LOVE smoothies!

I usually follow this general formula:
1/2 frozen banana
unsweetened chocolate almond milk
smidgen of cocoa powder
smidgen of vanilla
something green (kale, spinach, lettuce, whatever)
some sort of fat – nut butter, coconut butter, etc.

A lot of times, I’ll just throw in whatever I have in the fridge and freezer that needs using up.

So many great recipes to be inspired by! I like a fairly traditional green smoothie: almond milk, frozen banana, frozen blueberries, a protein powder like Amazing Meal, and a couple handfuls of spinach. The best kind though are the ones my 5 year old son helps me make. He loves to add the spinach, which he will drink in the smootie but won’t eat as a leaf.

I am an avid reader but have never posted but feel so compelled to share my absolute love for smoothies. I typically eat at least one a day and always after a run.
I usually throw in some yogurt (either vanilla, or banilla, or greek) dump in some fruit (peaches, strawberries, mangoes, raspberries, blueberries, – always frozen) splash of milk, and spinach! sometimes. I never do measurements. Just eyeball everything and add until it tastes great!
Any combination of fruit depending on what I have available.

Love the blog!

Smoothies?! You bet!

My recipe depends on my mood. If I’m feeling fruity I’ll use vanilla greek yogurt, strawberries, bananas, and orange juice. On the other hand, I might be feeling sweet and a bit nutty in which case I use vanilla greek yogurt with light chocolate soy milk and peanut butter and perhaps some chocolate protein powder. Yummmm!

Reply

WendyF April 27, 2010 at 3:35 pm

Icy strawberry ice cream –
frozen strawberries, cottage cheese, milk, ice, vanilla extract and a bit of xanthan gum and sweetener (agave or stevia). And then sometimes I add in vanilla protein powder, but if I don’t have any on hand, it’s just as good, if not better, without !
I always seem to make too much though, which is a problem with the large blender…maybe a magic bullet would help me control my portion (or not).

Love this giveaway!
…and reading all of those yummy smoothie recipes :)

my go-to recipe is similar to a few of the banana + chocolate protein powder/amazing meal recipes up there, so how about a different one? it’s not my everyday smoothie, but when I want something different I use this:

1c. unsweetened vanilla almond milk
2c. spinach (raw or steamed and cooled)
1/2 frozen banana
2T almond butter (or any nut butter)
1 scoop berry flavored Daily Greens powder (or 1/2 c. fresh or frozen berries)
1/8 tsp. xanathan gum
1/8 tsp. guar gum
** gums are optional, but make the smoothie really frothy and smoooooth!
ice and water as necessary

just blend it all up – tastes like a PB&J!

– 1/2 cup – 1 cup (depending on taste) frozen mangoes
– 1 tbsp chia seeds
– 1/2 cup – 1 cup OJ (depending on how thick you like it)
– 1/2 cup pasteurized egg whites
– stuff the rest of the space with spinach leaves (approx 2 Cups)

This can also be done with the addition of protein powder instead of egg whites but you might need to increase the juice or add in some water

Tropical and Delicious!

My favorite and go to smoothie recipe is a take on the Green Monster. I take a large handful of kale and a large handful of spinach, microwave it for 2-3 minutes and stick it in the blender. I add a small frozen banana (frozen in slices for easier blending), some plain almond milk (about 1/2 cup to 3/4 cup) and a tablespoon of chia seeds. I normally wait for the bananas to go really ripe (like banana bread ripe) before slicing and freezing them so that the natural sugars make my smoothies super sweet but with no added sugar.

Holy Moly! I cannot even explain my favorite healthy smoothie. I interviewed for a position as a sales representative for a healthy living company last month and one of their specialties is smoothies. Lucky me…during my interview I was given a complimentary smoothie of my choice. I decided on the Blueberry Muffin smoothie. It was INCREDIBLE!! I waited until the interview was over to fully enjoy this and literally sucked it down like a milkshake once I was in the car. It was to die for!

A super filling, delicious, and antioxidant rich smoothie recipe:
3/4 cup Fage 0% greek yogurt
1/4 cup frozen mixed berries (I like the costco organic variety, and just blend them frozen)
1/2 or a whole banana
A splash of acai juice
and an optional splenda if you need more sweet.

A great meal on the go!
