Quick and Easy Nutella Hot Chocolate

by jenna on January 28, 2011

Happy Friday!

Now, I’d consider myself a pretty big nutella lover. There was a time in college when my roommate and I would sit and watch Lifetime movies with a jar of nutella between us and a box of graham crackers on my lap. That was fun.

I also have enjoyed more than a few nutella crepes in my day. In my mind, there’s really not much better than a warm crepe filled with oozing nutella and maybe a few banana slices.

But nutella hot chocolate?

How I have lived on this earth for almost twenty six years without trying such a thing? How have I dared to call myself a true nutella lover without trying this simple heavenly creation?

If you’re anything like me you look for every excuse to eat a spoonful of nutella. It pretty much goes on anything from oatmeal to graham crackers to fingers. I can’t get enough of this stuff.

On to nutella hot chocolate. All you need are two ingredients—nutella and milk! Well, and whipped cream. But that’s a given.

Nutella hot chocolate tastes like regular hot chocolate, but with the subtle hint of hazelnut. I absolutely love it, especially alongside a few linzer cookies.

Make this tonight. It’s a much better option than beer and will leave you feeling wonderful and lively in the morning to boot!

Whisk nutella into milk and bring to a simmer on the stove. Serve in your favorite mug with whipped cream and marshmallows.

I know this is sacrilegious but I don’t really like Nutella. I’m weird. However, I really want that hot chocolate, and more specifically I want to drink it out of that mug. And only that mug!

Oh my word! I could write a collection of sonnets declaring my love for Nutella. This recipe is so easy – I can’t wait to try it. My favorite way to abuse, er, eat Nutella is on a toasted crumpet. The Nutella gets all ooey-warm-gooey and practically drips all over my chin when I bite into the crumpet. Love!!

Ohhhhhh….. I cannot wait to try this tonight!
I’ve been experimenting with homemade hot chocolate this winter. Since I live in NY, we’ve had our fair share of snowy evenings that just call for it! That or a chocolate martini…

I’ve had some hits (made with steamed milk and rich milk chocolate) and some misses (made with semi-sweet chips and a dash of cayenne pepper) but I think this one may be just the ticket!!

Now where did I put your recipe for homemade marshmallows?? :)

PS: Oddest Nutella pairing to date? I had it on a salty garlicky bagel… It was AMAZING!

Wanna know something totally crazy? Up until a few weeks ago, the BF had never had Nutella! Crazy, I know! We were in a dessert place and I ordered a crepe with Nutella and sliced banana and split it with him.

Another crazy thing…Nutella sandwiches used to make my nose bleed when I was a kid. My parents or I would smear some in between slices of soft white bread and without fail, I’d get a nosebleed. I have no idea why (wasn’t allergic to nuts) but thankfully I grew out of it.

This morning I was happily reading your blog and wait for breakfast inspiration to hit me when he said to me “Don’t come in the kitchen! It ended up being one of the most delicious breakfasts ever in the form of Nutella and strawberry filled crepes…I had just finished reading this post and couldn’t help but wonder where he got the inspiration!! Hi, got here from SUAR’s blog. Love Nutella and will have to try some of the recipies. When we were in Europe we saw 5 Kg jars of Nutella. For the metrically challenged, that’s 11 pounds. They are huge. At first I thought they were a special display, but then we found a store where they were on sale.

I’ve been CRAVING Nutella like crazy and decided to make this tonight. I used whole milk and a heaping TBS of Nutella and found it to be a bit bland. It tasted too milky (a flavor I don’t care for) if I add cocoa powder would it drown out the hazelnut flavor? I might use hazelnut milk and more Nutella next time. YUM.
