All hail, football season is upon us! And football season = yummy dips…didn’t you know? Of course there’s always this (which is way delicious, by the way), but just in case you’d like a mildly healthier approach, meet this creamy white bean dip with garlic whole wheat pita chips.
What? You’ve never made your own pita chips before??!
They’re super easy and taste better than anything you can find at the store…promise! For these, I roasted an entire head of garlic in a little olive oil (yessssss) then brushed the infused oil all over the pita wedges and baked until crispy.
Seriously addicting snack food right here, folks. Especially when sprinkled with lots of sea salt and pepper!
And the dip…oh the dip! I love white bean dip as an easy alternative to hummus because, let’s face it, I pretty much eat hummus every day of my life. It’s good to have some variety up in there! And yes, the previously mentioned entire head of roasted garlic goes right into it along with lemon juice, olive oil and cumin.
Oh! and the best part about making your own pita chips is that you can totally control how many you eat by how many pitas you bake. No bottomless bags found here! Just me, a whole wheat pita and my oven.
Head to PBS Food for the yummy recipe and have a fantastic Friday!

September 30, 2011 at 7:46 amohhh man a whole garlic head thrown in there?! That sounds heavenly to me. And since I have zero self control around tortilla chips (read: ZERO) this would be an awesome way to practice a bit of portion control… until I look in the cabinet and see those bags of tortilla chips and lose it all over again ha!

September 30, 2011 at 12:38 pmLove making my own chips, too. I am not a fan of tons of salt on things so it’s nice to DIY and control things. And oh, that dip looks wonderful.
And the blue dish that you’re serving it in is so pretty!
