Travel

back in the day

There’s a few things you should know.

1. I’m in Savannah, Georgia!

2. Last night I rediscovered pimento cheese and ate approximately fifty four dipped pita chips.

3. Yesterday I announced that I was going to exercise and then walked upstairs to get in my gym shorts, fell onto my bed and took a nap instead.

4. I found the coolest (and let me repeat coolest) bakery in downtown Savannah. It kinda makes me want to live here; I’m not gonna lie.

We stumbled into Back in the Day bakery yesterday after my parent’s pastor recommended it, saying it was “the best bread outside of San Francisco”.

I love it when people say that.

Anyways, all I heard was the word “bread” and we were on our way. And when we arrived, what we found was the cutest artisan bakery that I’d ever been in!

Seriously.

Friends, if Etsy and Eat Live Run joined forces to create a bakery, this is exactly what she would look like.

Back in the Day bakes all their bread from scratch every morning and their desserts are some of the most artful I’ve seen.  They had such treats like lavender bars, red velvet cupcakes and huge, old fashioned chocolate chip cookie sandwiches with vanilla buttercream. Just standing in line makes you smile.

Most of all, I love that their mission statement is “creating desserts and baking breads that reflect a time lost in baking arts”.

I mean, how perfect and beautiful is that? It’s exactly what I aim to convey daily on this blog!

The cupcakes alone almost made me cry. As did the deliciously creamy gingerbread chai tea I slurped down while I drooled.

And yes, I tried to buy all the wall art you see below but they (of course) kindly referred me to Etsy instead.

So yes, I just felt compelled to spread the love a little bit with you guys because places like this truly touch my heart. If you’re ever in Savannah, make sure to stop by…they are super nice and carry mini plastic ballerina cupcake toppers (I bought three). You never know when you might need something like that!

I like to be prepared for any and all cake decorating situations.

How funny about the pimento cheese! My boyfriend is from the south and LOVES pimento cheese because his mom made it for them every weekend, so he just bought a container of it at the store this week for the first time in years and I made him a pimento cheese sandwich last night!

I live in St Augustine but was in Savannah for a girls’ trip this weekend and I can’t believe we missed this place!! We only stopped in Savannah for one night on our way to Charleston (which is my happy place, and yours too I know!) Just had to stop to comment and say….while you’re in Savannah, if you’ve never been, please check out the Gryphon Tea Room. It is totally adorable and it used to be a drug store – there are still drawers lining the walls labeled with what they used to contain (all kinds of crazy things from headache tablets to corn pads and suppositories, haha) and the chairs are bright orange and there are stained glass mortar and pestals on the walls….it is seriously so stinkin adorable you won’t be able to leave. PLUS the food was ahhhhhhhhhh-mazing!! Anyway, please check it out. If you don’t, you and I both will be saddened by the loss! Have fun visiting the south!!
