falafel burgers

by jenna on August 5, 2011

Do you love falafel?

Yeah, me too.

I love it so much that sometimes I feel like I have a relationship with it.

I said I could cook. I never said I was normal.

So…I developed this recipe for falafel burgers. Spicy, garlicky patties chock-full of chickpeas, tahini, garlic and spices. They’re perfect stuffed into gigantic warm pitas with extra tahini sauce and hot sauce drizzled over everything. Do I need to say more? You know you want them.

For those of us that have a relationship with our food…head to the PBS blog for the recipe!

Ooh yes yes yes! I lived in the Middle East for 5 years but only had my first falafels about 2 years after returning to Canada. Why I waited so long I have no idea. These look great!

I have never once in my life tried a falafel, which is a crying shame considering how many chickpeas I gnaw through in a week. Must. Make. These! They sound and look amazing. :D

I love nothing more than a quality falafel wrap, busting with all the good fixings. I used to get falafel everywhere I went that they offered it (which isn’t too many places) to try and seek out the best one! So many amazing ones out there.

I’ve never had a falafel, but these look amazing…. However, I am not a huge fan of tahini… I eat hummus, but prefer red pepper or garlic so I don’t notice the tahini… Should I just try it? Or is there something you can think of would be a good substitute….. ?

I had a serious relationship with falafel in high school, but we had to break up because we needed “space.” We reconnected later in college and have been happy together ever since. I love the idea of a spicy falafel in burger form!

As a falafel lover, this recipe has just made my weekend. I am a beginner cook and your pbs recipes so far are great for me and easy to follow. I’m so glad you are posting them! At risk for sounding extreme, the shells changed my life (sooo delicious!) and I have sent the recipe out to anyone who is scared of using tofu.

Reply

Lola August 5, 2011 at 11:01 am

You know, maybe you are normal… because I have been questioning the fact that the mediteranian joint down the street from my office must be putting crack into their falafels, because I CRAVE them every.single.day. I kid you not, I’ve even dreampt of falafels! I dreampt I had a plate full of piping hot crispy falafels. So yes, you are normal. And falafel burgers sound like the best invention in the entire world. More crunch, more fried, love it!

I think you must be psychic – or we are able to send telepathic messages all the way from your house to mine (Canada!). I have been looking for an excellent falafel recipe and was dismayed when I couldn’t find a new one. Instead I made salmon patties…. And then I come and read your blog and I find out you made falafel patties. What a coincidence! It was the same with yoga- After day three I was going to try doing 30 days… I sign onto your blog and VOILA my own motivation from your 21 day challenge! Seriously, are you my sister?

Keep up the great posts!
