Dinner

Peanut Butter and Wine

Today has been this kind of day:

So, long story short, this afternoon I go to the coffee shop to write for a few hours. I usually walk but it was pouring so I drove. After I was done, I looked across the street to where my car had been so innocently parallel parked and instead of my nice new honda, I see this monstrosity:

IMG_0122
I won’t repeat what words flew out of my mouth. The woman who hit my car actually owned the store right where my car was parked so that was pretty easy, but it was still a long afternoon of police, insurance and tow trucks. Thank you Rocky for coming to my rescue and keeping me sane! The coolest part of it all? I got to ride around downtown Healdsburg shot gun in a tow truck. That’s a first. The body shop where my car is now is going to let me use a car until mine is fixed but I have to wait until tomorrow for that because they were out today of rental cars.
Naturally, I consoled myself with peanut butter and jelly:

And, later, a dinner at Zin with a hefty glass of Cabernet, a roasted beet salad and potato soup.

I’m sure she’ll come outta the shop purdy as ever. Looks like you ate some great eats tonight to help with the stress.

Ack! I would have been LIVID. At least she was nearby, I guess. How did she manage to do it, anyway?

Riding shotgun in a tow truck is an interesting experience. I had to do that about a year ago, because my car broke down when I was about an hour away. Thankfully, I’ve known the guy that owns the repair shop for my entire life, so he (and his wife, who was a first grade teacher I’ve also known all my life) came up to get me and my car at 11 p.m.

Holy crap! I’m glad they didn’t do a hit and run. When I graduated HS, I remember my friends and I were standing in a parking lot after prom, and this huge truck came out of nowhere, hit a car and sped off. The car’s bumper fell off. We all noted down the truck’s license plate number so the owner could call the police but I remember the poor girl who owned the car… she was so upset! It was terrible!

The same thing happened to me one time- I was at happy hour, and when I came out, my car’s bumper was on the ground. I was livid b/c there was no note, so I went back inside the restaurant, and the hostess told me that the manager did it and he was really sorry. He left the scene b/c he was driving drunk- hmm wouldn’t nailing someone’s parked car be a sign that you should STOP driving? Guess not. It took me months to get reimbursed b/c he was such a low life… still on his mom’s insurance & everything!
