  • We woke up to two fresh feet of snow! I came downstairs early, lit the stove and made coffee. It might be a looooong drive home today but what a magical snowy weekend we’ve had! 🌲❄️
  • This year I wanted more from advent. Previously, we always pushed in the boxes on the Trader Joe’s calendars, my boys eager in their jammies for that bit of milk chocolate before breakfast. This year, I wanted to go deeper, to slow down and to teach the boys that this season is about more than chocolate and presents. The wonderful thing about having young kids is that you get to dictate the types of traditions you and your family pursue. For us, that means reading together every day, discussing why we celebrate and keeping an attitude of thankfulness. I’m loving doing fun, simple crafts with the kids, afternoon teatimes and (obviously) the occasional Christmas movie. I can’t recommend this absolutely lovely book enough! It’s beautiful and different with gorgeous illustrations. We are loving both @shereadstruth and @thepeacefulpress for our studies this year and both are still available if you’re interested. ❄️
  • My oldest boy. Sweet, incredibly creative, out of the box thinker. Loves to make, to do, to travel and experience new things. Extroverted to a T, we don’t always see eye to eye but he teaches me new lessons every day. Something you may not know - that I keep to myself for privacy sake but may help someone out there if I speak up - Grayson has pretty extreme ADHD and neurological developmental delays. I never want him to think of his learning disorder as a hindrance, but rather God given. He’s able to see the world through different lenses. It’s not bad, it’s just different. Our reality is full of therapy, appointments, trying new diets and lots and lots of grace. I tell you this today in case you, too, are parenting a different kid. I understand the days can be long and trying sometimes, and you may feel stretched too thin or not up for the task. But let me tell you - you are up for the task. As my friend @jessaconnolly says, you’re the girl for the job. It’s amazing what our children can teach us every day if we are open to receive it. 💙 Also? Next time you see a mama with a different kid or a child who is struggling, instead of judging or pointing a finger, maybe just assume she is doing the best she can.
  • #AD Even though it definitely feels like winter here in California, we are still enjoying summer vibes with Late July Organic Restaurant Style Tortilla Chips! My whole family LOVES “chili n’ chips night” and I am still making my grandma’s midwestern chili recipe - the same one I grew up with. 🥰
We eat this over elbow macaroni with sour cream on top. These Late July melt in your mouth tortilla chips are the perfect addition but also delicious enough to eat on their own! It definitely makes for an cozy sort of night. 🌲❄️ How do you do YOUR chili n’ chips night? #summerneverends @latejulyorganic
  • When I sit down and think about the past year, the words “difficult and exhausting” spring right up. No doubt, it was a harder year than I anticipated. But - then after I sit with that for a minute, and be coming out on the other side of it, I’m able to see all of the fruit. Sure, it was a hard year but it also was a year of immense immense growth. A year ago, I rarely ever took a quiet time. Now, I literally spring out of bed by 5:45 just for a half hour by myself before everyone wakes up. It’s become the best thing I’ve ever done. I light candles, make coffee and read. Then, I’m able to put it all away, unload the dishwasher, get the breakfast going, wake the kids...all of that. Reading good books has 100% changed the game for me this year. And if you don’t think you have time, just look at that app on your phone that says where you mostly spend your time. Social media is pretty high on the list. I’m willing to bet if you added up all the minutes of mindless Instagram scrolling you do daily, you’d be able to find the time to read real books. Just a thought. ;) Here’s what I’m reading right now! 🌲🙌🏻✨@shereadstruth #advent2019 @sally.clarkson
  • Luke takes pho very seriously. 🍜
  • I get asked pretty often about books for children - mainly, what my five year old is currently loving. Well, here you go! I desire nothing more than to make lifelong passionate readers out of my children. The joy of getting lost in a good book is unsurpassed! It is hard though, these days, to “find the time” to read (although, really, is it? 🤔) so here is what we do. Every afternoon when the big boys get home from school and the baby naps, I read aloud. Usually out of the James Herriot treasury or a storybook from the library to hold Luke’s attention. At night, each child gets a story read before bed. Well, Luke gets two books and Grayson (who goes to bed an hour later than his younger brothers) gets 30ish minutes of a chapter book read aloud. When all my kids are older, we will start family read alouds nightly. These are all the books Grayson is loving right now. His teacher at school read My Fathers Dragon and he loved it so much I bought the series for our home library. I know he will want to reread them all when he’s able to read on his own. We also love Boxcar Children, Little House on the Prairie (not shown but very very much loved) and currently into My Side of the Mountain. I also read bible stories every afternoon to everyone. My goal is to make books a living, breathing part of our everyday life. Grayson LOVES books and says his favorite time at school is the time of the day they get to pick a classroom book and sit at their desk with it. I hope this sticks! What are your elementary kids currently into? 📚
  • My goal everyday is to get the boys outside as much as humanely possible. 🌲 My two biggest parenting lessons in my 5.5 short years of motherhood is: everything is better if you add water, and get outside. So basically, playing with water outside is jackpot. 😂 Seriously though - anyone else’s kids NEED to be outside?!
  • I can’t believe it’s been a year since my incredible homebirth with Brooks. 💙 I love this first photo of my eldest holding my youngest just two hours after his birth. 🥰 Brooks, we adore you! I never imagined in my wildest dreams having three boys but, man, what a GIFT it is. I love this little tribe of men I have the honor and privilege of raising. I feel like I am really just starting to step into my calling of bringing up these little men and its just so much fun. Happy birthday to my sweet baby Brooks! 🥳💙💙💙
  • Gosh, how is he 1 on Friday?!? 😭😭💙💙
  • Ahhhh, the aroma and taste (and sight!) of fresh sourdough never ever grows old. 🥰 I hadn’t baked in months and this was exactly what we all needed today.
  • Tea time ☕️💙
