The Pounding in my Head

Good morning!

Thanks for all y’alls sweet comments last night regarding my migraine. 🙁

Unfortunately it was a BAD one…probably the worst I’ve had in a very long time. I finally took two excedrin migraine around 10:00, watched Walk the Line (best movie ever) and then fell asleep around midnight with ice packed on my forehead. Hot. Woke up this morning still with the headache, took two more excedrin migraine, drank some black tea, laid down with MORE ice on my head and now I’m feeling a little bit better…finally. Ugh is right. And blackberry is apparently down, which is a whole other headache in itself. Wasn’t life so much simpler pre-cellphone? Ahh the good ol’ days.

I knew I would feel better if I ate something substantial even though I felt so icky!

I don’t think I’m going to Bikram today because I still feel pretty woozy and now I have all this migraine medicine in my system, which is never a good thing. Instead, I’m going to do a long Dave Farmar podcast in my living room because that’s always what makes my head feel better. Seriously…triangle pose is a miracle worker for migraines!
Have a great morning!

I get migraines often too. I know you said it wasn’t because of hot yoga and that may be true but the dehydration of hot yoga probably does not HELP the migraine. I know you’re already drinking water but drink more especially if you’re doing the hot yoga.
I also particularly like “rabbit pose” for headaches. 🙂

ugh. i feel your pain sista. i have been diagnosed with chronic migraines as well. changes in barometric pressure is a HUGE trigger for me. I hope you are feeling better today. I know it will take almost all of today before you feel yourself again. As for Imitrex, i only tried it once and had a horrible reaction to it. I am currently on Midrin which has been much easier on my body. Something to consider if you ever go back to prescribed drugs (not that i would ever advocate for them… i tried many other things first).

    YOU NEED A MASSAGE!!

I have been getting migranes for the last 2 years, a cool new feature of hitting 21. The only thing that really helps me is a message. It breaks up all the tension in your neck and head, seriously worth the money! You can even google massage schools local to you, where students practice, and it is usually very discounted. You might even need to go a few times, you are probably tight from all the working out! GOOD LUCK 🙂

Totally feel your pain. I’ve had migraines my entire life. Usually triggered by my chocolate allergy (yes, its as terrible as it sounds) and stress. I finally started using a medication called Maxalt and it literally is a miracle drug. You take one at the onset of your migraine and it just never shows up. Absolute life saver. Not sure if you’re into that sorta thing, but talk to your doc if you’re looking for something stronger than Excedrin. I hiiiighly recommend it!

I got migraines for 2 months when I was applying to college. After I heard that I got into a school, they stopped! Purely stress induced – which is so insane. Are yours caused by anything in particular?

hope your feeling better! Massages really do help! I am a life long migraine sufferer- I use a combo of preventative, abortive meds, yoga, clean diet, lots of water, and herbs, massage etc… ( and lots of laughter) to combat mine- but you have to do what works for you! I would love to not be on the meds!

I too am a Migraine sufferer-have been since pre-mentrual age (TMI? sorry). Every month I’d get one around the same time. Not even my imitrex shots helped. Lost feeling in my left side, constant vomiting (also, TMI?) , slurring my words, aka disaster. several of these occasions resulted in ER ambulance rides and IV hook-ups like nobodys biz. Its pretty sad when you appreciate the bouts of vomiting for their ability to take your mind off the pain/knife in your brain. Several CT scans confirmed that I didn’t have a tumor (thank god) but that didn’t really help in solving my condition. Once I got my period, they became less severe but still there. These things are completely debilitating (sp?) What has helped a little is an increase in estrogen via birth control. Not sure why, but perhaps this might help a little? No one should have to suffer through a migraine. Also… if you can afford it-MASSAGES. My dad once stayed by my bed rubbing my back, neck and head all night (spinal cord might be constricted) and it definitely eased some of the pain. I feel your pain love… Hydrate, hydrate hydrate and nourish with plenty of grains, omegas and even sea veggies!

Glad you’re feeling a bit better. I get migraines too and have Imitrex shots in case of emergency but I normally stick with Excedrine Migraine. Seriously…I could kiss the makers of Excedrine Migraine because they’ve saved my sanity so many times. I love those gel eye masks as well…same as putting an icepack on your face but the mask really gets down into the pocket of your eye socket to soothe away the pain.

I used to get migraines a few times a month. You are not going to want to hear this…but when I stopped drinking wine the migraines disappeared almost completely! I guess the sulfides can cause migraines even when the wine only has sulfides that occur naturally. I hope you feel much better very soon!

I hope you feel better! I got migraines when I was younger. They suck. Eventually my mom took me to a naturopath and they tested me for allergies. Turned out I was HIGHLY allergic to eggs. I still cant eat them. Anymore than one egg a week and I’ll get a migraine. When I was younger they couldnt even touch my food or it would be a week of pain.

I totally feel you on the migraines, Jenna. They are the WORST. I wanted to tell you that I often got them after doing bikram yoga and I was convinced it was somehow related to the fact that I somehow dehydrated myself. So, maybe trying drinking A TON of water? I actually take prescription medicine for mine, but the ones I got after bikram were a bit different. Anyway, I know it seems pretty ordinary, but sometimes bikram is intense, we don’t even realize how much water we lost.

    Hope you feel better soon!

Ugh, migraines are the worst, I’m so sorry.

I’ve stopped taking migraine medication (unless I’m in a situation where I really need it), but I find that a cup of coffee and some really strong cups of ginger tea (just grated ginger root or powder in water) keep the worst of the pounding and nausea away.

I hope you feel better soon!

Sorry to hear about your migraine! I too get them once in awhile. I read in one of Joel Fuhrman’s books that tea can be a migraine trigger for some people, and I found it to be true! Even decaf. Now I drink ginger, cinnamon, and such non-leaf teas. But then again, I have lots of food triggers, but just in case, I thought I would share. Hope the rest of the week was migraine-free! 🙂
