Three Weeks Out: How I’m Feeling

My wedding is in three weeks.

My wedding is in three weeks!!!!!!

Y’all, that’s nuts. I can’t believe it. I thought I’d write a little post today on how I’m feeling with it all, like an internal check-in. I know I’ve been super vague about all wedding stuff on this space and that’s just because the majority of my friends and family read my blog and I wanted things to be a surprise for them! I plan to write a few in depth wedding recap posts after we get home from our honeymoon and I promise to then share alllllll the juicy deets.

So how am I feeling?

GREAT! I seriously cannot wait to marry my best friend. I feel like in the past few weeks, especially, I’ve just been falling more and more in love with him than ever. In case you’re wondering {I would be}, I’m not doing any sort of “bridal bootcamp” exercise program or strange cleanse. Instead, I’ve been doing yoga a few times a week and eating lots of avocados. Guacamole, anyone? Y’all, I’m so laid back about the whole thing. Our wedding is super laid back, too. It totally fits our personalities to a T. We’re having an outdoor ceremony next to a creek in Austin. Hopefully it won’t rain or be 140 degrees. If that happens though, I guess I just have to accept that it’s all part of the adventure. Then, our reception is in a barn-type space where we’ll dance and eat mac & cheese and carrot cake until our stomachs hurt. We leave on our honeymoon the next day!

I still have a few more little details to work out, such as wedding favors. We know what we want to do, but I just need to put all that together and ship everything down to Texas. Some of the best advice that I got when we started to plan was figure out what’s important to you and invest there. To me, that’s all the food. Dress? Not so much. Adam will think I look beautiful no matter what I wear. Flowers? Meh. Whatever. But the food….that’s got to be good. It’s different for everyone though!

I think as much as we are looking forward to celebrating our big day with friends and family, we are equally just as excited to finally just “be married”. I’m so excited for our future together, to start a family one day and just do life side by side.

So exciting– the final weeks are the best- and leaving on your honeymoon the next day is even better!! We went from our hotel the next morning after the brunch to the airport and then onto Greece!! Such an exciting time! Enjoy the moment!

I don’t think you have to worry too much about the weather, luckily! Lately the hottest it’s gotten in Austin is 90 degrees, for like a day. It’s been randomly and wonderfully mild…most days lately are in the high 70’s/low 80’s. And not much rain! A bit of sprinkling here and there, but pretty much only one legit downpour for like half a day.

So happy for you! (and excited!) Can’t wait to hear all the details of your special day!

Best piece of wedding advice EVER: When you get to the day of your wedding, let it all go. You’ve done TONS of work to get to that day, but when it arrives, don’t be stressing about what is or isn’t done. Just enjoy each moment. Take a pause ever so often during the day, look at your husband (or soon-to-be), and absorb all the goodness happening around you.
Many warned me that I would be so busy with greeting people, the elation from the day, etc. that I would forget everything on my wedding day, that it would be a blur within a week. But a dear friend, my matron-of-honor, pulled me aside the night of the dress rehearsal and told me to just let it all go and enjoy. I was so intentional about it the next day and relaxed, giving it all to God (and the day-of wedding planner), that I remember so many beautiful moments and I will cherish those for the rest of my life.

    ENJOY!!! God bless you. 🙂

So glad you are being so laid back about it all! It will help you so much getting through that last week especially! No matter what happens, your day will be memorable and you will be starting your lives together as Husband and Wife…and that is the goal anyway! Everything else is just the icing on the cake!

Take the time to look around at everyone who came to spend your day with you and share in your love!

For us, it was the food too! I wanted the best I could find in Savannah, and for me that is The Olde Pink House. Our guests couldn’t believe the selection of what we offered them. Starter of She Crab Soup and their famous BLT salad with an appetizer of shrimp and grits on a spoon, then selection of entree from steak to chicken, pork, or fish all with the best sides they offered. Of course, at the time I was in the wedding industry so I had an idea of how I wanted things, the best surprise was our cake! I actually made it from the bakery I worked at and it was a surprise in the end. The dress I got for a bargain..only paid $160 and no could believe where I got it.

You are so wise. When I got married several people kind of ‘took over’. It was a garden wedding, Beverly Hills caterer…although I don’t think I ate anything..was busy dancing, laughing, chatting. What I most remember/cherish is the hug my mother gave me, dad walking me down the garden path, (it was very pretty), loved the music. Had a great time…but like you…just went with the flow.

Oh, my dress required a bustier as the back was deep cut sheer lace. In the excitement the fancy bustier went missing and I had to go to my wedding braless. Classy. lol.

Those weddings where it’s all about the brand name shoes etc…think miss the point. I had a blast. You will too.

I totally agree that the food is the most important part. I plan on investing in a whole bunch of southern style bbq…my favorite. I’m in the middle of planning the whole thing right now. Good bbq is hard to come by in New England though…I might have to smoke all my own meat!

Love this! I definitely think the biggest lesson I learned from the process was to just be YOU. A couple months out I started worrying that I hadn’t “done enough” – no crafts, no Pinterest projects, etc. But I realized that I don’t do that in real life, so why would I for my wedding? And in the end, it was perfect. It reflected our personalities and who we are as a couple – anything different would have felt forced. And it sounds like you are staying very true to yourself, so kudos for that! Enjoy these last few weeks 🙂

Thanks for reminding us all that it’s not about what you wear or exactly how everything matches… I’m getting married in about six weeks and people keep asking me about dress, linens, what my maid-of-honor is wearing- stuff that doesn’t matter (to me, at least).
