Happy Humpday!
I woke up this morning STARVING and knew exactly what needed to be done, asap:
Mmmmmmm a pancake made with Kodiak mix topped with a little vanilla oikos, almond butter and banana. Seriously, this might beat out oatmeal and everything else as my favorite breakfast ever. It keeps me full for hours! (ps–that is NOT a hair on my pancake, that’s a piece of banana “thread”…looks sort of unsanitary though!)
***
Trying to pack right now for California….any Northern Cal readers care to inform me about the current weather situation?! I’m guessing it’s still hot during the day and chilly at night.
About to spend the next hour and a half answering my emails— have NOT forgotten about you!
Power yoga class at noon!

September 23, 2009 at 9:52 amJust like Kay, I thought I had a hair on my screen, which wouldn’t be out of the ordinary for me, since I shed like a crazy cat! I don’t eat pancakes a lot because I find that they are more work than I’m willing to commit to in the morning when all I care about is, “Where’s the food” and “How long until I can eat?”

September 23, 2009 at 9:53 ammmmm…pancakes!

September 23, 2009 at 9:56 amI did the same thing! I wiped my screen and when it wouldn’t come off I was confused 🙂

September 23, 2009 at 9:59 amSacramento area here . . . it is HOT HOT HOT. Upper 90s to 100s here. If you’re near the bay area though it will probably be in the 80s and yes, definitely cooler at night.
Stephanie
September 23, 2009 at 10:01 amI live in Southern California, but I was in NorCal last weekend and it was HOT HOT HOT! The coolest time is the mornings (early), but I went on a power walk in shorts and a tshirt. And, I believe it has gotten hotter this week (it sure is hot in the LA area). Have a fun trip!

September 23, 2009 at 10:05 amLOL I totally tried to get the hair off my screen when I first saw it on the picture! Good luck with packing.

September 23, 2009 at 10:07 amUm, I totally just brushed off my laptop screen assuming it was a dog hair on my screen since everything in my house usually has some dog hair on it! :>
Once I knew it wasn’t hair I decided your brekkie looks phenom! Should fuel you up for a busy day of answering emails!!

September 23, 2009 at 10:21 amI totally thought that was a hair too, my first thought was Oh No Jenna don’t eat the hair!
Donna
September 23, 2009 at 10:25 amI wish it was cool in the evenings! It’s been upper 90s in the day, with no delta breeze in the evenings where I am (I’m just outside of Sacramento). I get up and run at 5:30 because it’s the coolest part of the day!! According to the weather, it should be Highs in the upper 90s, lows in the low 60s (although I doubt it will get anywhere close to that!). Yesterday it was 102 degrees. What a way to start the first day of fall!!

September 23, 2009 at 10:28 amHa, I thought it was a hair or crack/scratch on MY screen, too! 🙂

What kind of pancake mix do you use? Looks great!

I use Kodiak mix…you can find it online or at your local store!

September 23, 2009 at 10:48 amI am in the Bay Area. We are having some heat that is for sure. Not sure how long you are here for, but Friday – Sunday is the low 90’s. In San Francisco it will be cooler around 70’s and the evenings tend to be cooler…just depends how much of the sea breeze kicks in! If you are going to be in the wine country and I think you mentioned that…expect 90’s. San Francisco is it’s own micro-climate…you can be 20 miles away and it can be 20 degrees hotter than the City…thanks to our famous fog…oh and we don’t have humidity here!!! Yea.
Enjoy your time in the Bay Area.
Stacy
September 23, 2009 at 10:49 amHere in the Bay it’s not quite as hot as it is in Sacramento. I think this weekend it should be in the 80’s and it is cool in the mornings and evenings! Like always layers are the best!
Teresa
September 23, 2009 at 10:53 amHaha, yep I thought it was hair on your pancake too, and was relieved to learn it was just a banana thread! Looks delish!
Have the best time in Nor Cal! I lived in SF for college and absolutely love that city. I can’t believe it’s been almost 2 years since I graduated and had to move :(. Just remember- no stress and enjoy yourself!

September 23, 2009 at 10:56 amhey jenna,
i’m in northern california – in the bay area, the weather’s been pretty nice lately, not too hot and not too cold – typical for the bay area. we are due although for a few hot spells in the upcoming weeks… you’re going to be up in sonoma right? it’s always pretty much warmer up there…
Beth @ DiningAndDishing
September 23, 2009 at 10:57 amPancakes are my fave breakfast too! I love that there’s so many ways to healthify them. My favorite variation is with a mashed banana or some pumpkin in the batter. Makes them almost raw in the middle which I think is great :O).

September 23, 2009 at 11:06 amI have been craving pancakes this week – banana and chocolate chip with walnuts. I don’t know why, but it’s been calling my name (I’m lying, I DO know why – because it’s fan-freaking-tastic) and now your pancakes have tipped me over the edge! Must make them before the week is out!

September 23, 2009 at 11:21 amHi Jenna, safe travels to my part of the world!
Northern Cal has a ton of very different microclimates–even places 5 miles from each other can vary 10 degrees in temp! I am not sure specifically where you will be. This time of year it’s generally hot inland and cooler by the Bay (SF can be quite cold although this is also the time of year when the fog can retreat and it can be warm if that happens). Best thing to do is bring a lot of layers. Even at night it will just be in the mid to upper 50s. Have fun!
Kirsten
September 23, 2009 at 11:21 amI love packing, so exciting anticipating a trip!

September 23, 2009 at 12:15 pmJenna – too funny. I thought there was a hair on my computer screen and I was trying to get it off. Hehe. It is going to be pretty hot until Monday here. But is has been cool in the morning and evenings. Layers is what it’s all about.
PS – are you ladies planning a meet up anytime? I emailed Tina and she said she was going to chat with you guys and see what the plans are.

September 23, 2009 at 12:31 pmHI Jenna!
I have been “stalking” your blog for a while getting all kinds of wonderful tips. I’ve just gotten brave enough to start my own blog AND post on others!
The main thing that got me to post though was seeing you were listening to THE NATIONAL yesterday! OMG…does he not have the most amazing voice? I love that band. You clearly have good food AND music taste!

September 23, 2009 at 12:39 pmPack for the heat when you go to Sonoma it’s been in the 90’s. For your days in San Francisco I would pack jeans, tank top, light cardigan type of outfits. It will be a nice San Francisco weekend but it won’t get much over higher then 80 (most likely). Wish you had time for a meet up but have a fabulous time!

September 23, 2009 at 12:44 pmYay for yummy breakfasts!! Good luck packing today 🙂

September 23, 2009 at 1:07 pmI totally thought it was a hair..haha
I live in Sacramento, CA about a 1.5 hours from San Francisco. This morning and most mornings the weather is in the high 50’s low 60’s (it was about 64 degrees at 9am). By about noon it’ll be more like 85-90. It’s definitely very warm.
I would recommend bringing a sweater or layering whereever you go, because places seem to be pretty generous with the air conditioning and I’m always cold when I just have a t shirt or tank top on.
Are you doing any blogger meet ups while you’re here?
aron
September 23, 2009 at 1:13 pmdepends on where you are going in norcal 🙂 SF is cooler right now I think, but the east bay where I am at is hot! I’d bring something for every temp hehe
Kristin
September 23, 2009 at 2:19 pmIt’s pretty hot in the Santa Rosa area this week, but not unbearable if you’re used to it. The mornings/evenings are nice and cool, though. If you haven’t already, check out Annadel State Park (and Spring Lake and Howarth Park next to it) when you’re there. It’s my favorite place to run! I wish I could run there every day, but I don’t live there anymore. You might also like to take a walk or picnic if your shin needs a rest. Happy trails!
Carly
September 23, 2009 at 2:42 pmI usually make gluten free pancakes and layer laughing cow light cheese, non-fat greek yogurt, and banana = amazing! The weather in California, Napa Valley specifically has been in the 90’s… Typically foggy in the morning and by noon it burns off and its super hot… Try and make it up to Yountville if you get the chance… I know you love food… Sometime you should make a reservation to the French Laundry (its world renown). Also stop by Hill Family Estate Wine tasting room and grab some Carly’s Cuvee Chardonnay and take a look at all the french antiques we sell! Enjoy you weekend in Sonoma it is going to be a nice one and you may even see some of the workers out harvesting the grapes, since it is crush season! 🙂
Liz
September 23, 2009 at 2:46 pmIt’s been foggy and cool in the morning, hot during the day then almost freezing cold when the fog rolls in. That’s for SLO county. But, what I have learned from living in CA has been layer, layer, layer! Have fun packing!

September 23, 2009 at 4:32 pmhi Jenna,
I’m going to my first hot yoga class this weekend, and was wondering what tips you have for a beginner? Anything in particular I should do before/after the class? Should I bring my own towel?
I just have no idea what to expect.
Thanks!

September 23, 2009 at 4:38 pmHey Jenna! I can’t wait to see you on Saturday! The weather here has been warm in the south bay (and warm – relative – in San Fran too). They are saying nice in the city, about 70 on Saturday … but depending on where you will be headed otherwise it could vary by 15 degrees. Typical Bay Area weather for you! 🙂
See you soon!!

September 23, 2009 at 5:23 pmsf has been sunny and in the 70’s for the past week but it’s going to be cooler this next weekend i heard on npr this morning! san franciscans live in layers!

September 23, 2009 at 5:31 pmI have been going to work in the morning (6:50am) without a coat and have been fine. But I’ve found over the last almost two years living in SF that the weather is pretty much the same every day. Layers are good, but you won’t need that heavy of a coat/jacket.

September 23, 2009 at 8:13 pmHi! I live in NorCal…in the Sacramento area and it’s been so hot! It’s 100 here right now, and isn’t cooling off at night! It’s supposed to be in the high 90s this weekend, so I suggest packing shorts and tee’s…even cute summery dresses! You might need a light sweater if your staying in the Bay Area in the evening, but for the most part this weekend looks very hot! Goodluck with the packing and I wish you safe travels!
