Good morning and HAPPY FRIDAY!
I rarely get to enjoy Friday for what it is because I usually work on Saturdays but today is the start of a long weekend and I’m saying bring it on!!!!!!
This morning I woke up at 6, ate half a clif bar and worked out in the home weight room.
I just wanted to do some cardio to begin my long day of traveling so I did 25 minutes on the elliptical followed by 3 sets of crunches on the stability ball (20 reps each set) and 3 sets of crunches with legs at 90 (20 reps each set). I was so happy to fit a workout into my day and felt great afterwards!
No matter how busy or stressful traveling gets, I always try to stay active. If I know I am traveling all day long, I really make an effort to wake up early that morning and work out first. And when I travel or am on vacation, I walk as much as I can. I don’t always work out in hotel gyms (actually I NEVER have worked out in a hotel gym before! tisk tisk), but I try to walk everywhere and explore my surroundings. Walking is such a great way to see the sights and its wonderful for you!
For breakfast I had a half cup of oikos with sliced banana and pom. seeds as well as a toasted ezekiel muffin with pb&j:
Since my flight leaves at noon and the airport I am flying out of is tiny tiny tiny with zero food options (I’m serious), I have packed my lunch. I packed a canned salmon sandwich on protein bread (1 can boneless skinless salmon, couple squirts miracle whip) as well as some carrots and an applesauce.
That should get me through until I arrive in atlanta at 2:00. I most always go to TCBY in the atlanta airport…I have to look at my itinerary because I’m not sure if I will have time today!!! Sad!
Snacks:
Books:
And yes I am re-reading Redeeming Love for the 517th time. I just love it so much! It’s PERFECT plane reading!! 🙂
And I’m off!!! I need to shower, finish packing and figure out what in the world I am going to wear on the plane. I’m sort of freaking after watching the weather channel this morning because it looks like Chicago is going to have massive amounts of freezing rain and I DO NOT HAVE A RAINCOAT. I don’t know what I’m going to do. Cry? Freeze? Any suggestions?!

November 7, 2008 at 6:41 amSafe travels Jenna! Maybe your “mom” has a coat you could borrow? Or you could pick up a cheap one when you get there…
Mara
November 7, 2008 at 7:06 amWhere are you staying? I’m sure you could pick one up at H&M if you’re downtown…won’t run you more than $20!
Sorry I won’t be able to make it downtown to meet up with you all this weekend, but have a BLAST and enjoy the city!

November 7, 2008 at 7:08 amMara,

ashley (sweet & natural)
November 7, 2008 at 7:24 amI stayed at the Hard Rock last time I was in Chicago. It was for a business trip, which I thought was kind of weird?! There was a huge metallic David Bowie artwork above my bed, a faux leather leopard print chair next to it and a print of Yoko Ono and John Lennon in the bathroom. Be sure to take pics of your room!

November 7, 2008 at 7:29 amDo you have an umbrella to take? If it is really raining in chicago a rain jacket won’t do much so I would recommend at least taking an umbrella and any type of heavy jacket you have. You could also do layers so if you do get wet you can remove layers.

November 7, 2008 at 7:51 amHAVE A SAFE FLIGHT!!! Buy a coat at the airport!! 😀

November 7, 2008 at 8:18 amCan someone elaborate a little on Redeeming Love? I am looking for book suggestions lately. Thanks!

November 7, 2008 at 8:24 amIt’s going to be such a fun trip! I can’t wait to see the pics. About the raincoat, Mara is on-point. I’d definitely hit up H&M- it’ll be functional and fashionable. Oh, and wear decent shoes with good traction. And use an umbrella! Have fun and make it safely!

November 7, 2008 at 8:31 amYay for oaty adventures!!! 🙂
Enjoy!!

November 7, 2008 at 8:33 amYeah, the weather might get pretty gross here this weekend. Just make sure that you have a hood that you can pull the strings around your face. If it gets windy, it could just fly right back if it’s not pulled tightly around your face! I can’t wait to meet you on Sunday—have a safe flight to our Windy City! 🙂

November 7, 2008 at 8:35 amI always pack myself food for my flights. I’m not sure what it is about being on airplanes that just makes me want to eat and read… maybe because there’s nothing else to do 🙂
Have a safe flight!
Missy
November 7, 2008 at 8:40 amYeah for reading Redeeming Love repeatedly! That is one of my absolute favorite books and have read it at least 6 times.
Brandi
November 7, 2008 at 8:46 amAsk your “mom” for a coat? Will you be outside much? If you’re staying at the hotel where the conference is, an umbrella might be enough as long as you have something warm, too.
I LOVE Redeeming Love. The first time I read it, I finished it in one day! I’ve passed it on to many people, and it’s one of my all time favorite books.
Have so much fun! I can’t wait to see everything oatmeal 🙂

November 7, 2008 at 8:55 amHave a safe trip in. I look forward to meeting you tonight. Whoo hoo!
Kev and I are going to Jamaica in Dec. and we plan on working out every day. The resort we go to has a state of the art gym facility so I look forward to actually using it this time. Before we had no interest but now it’s another story.
See you soon!
Jenn
November 7, 2008 at 9:07 amRedeeming Love is the most true and inspiring story! The fact its based on the story of Hosea is amazing and it such a good representation. It shows how love is supposed to be. LOVE IT!
Meghan
November 7, 2008 at 9:09 amHow about wearing a heavier jacket, then purchasing a cheap plastic poncho at the airport until you can make it to H&M (pure amazingness….) to purchase a cuter one?!
Laurel
November 7, 2008 at 9:17 amChicago can be chilly this time of year so at least bring along something to block the wind! As many others have commented already, there is ample opportunity to purchase something there if you find it unbearable when you arrive.
I haven’t read “Redeeming Love”…but I love Francine Rivers’ Mark of the Lion trilogy! I’ll have to check it out.
Enjoy your trip! 🙂

November 7, 2008 at 9:22 amI always try to work out before traveling too. Especially if there’s a long plane ride involved.

November 7, 2008 at 9:25 amAm I the only one who thought, you’re bringing canned salmon on an airplane?! Love you Jenna but I hate when people bring “stinky” food on flights in those close quarters!
Have a safe trip and enjoy Chicago!

November 7, 2008 at 10:04 amokay, maybe i am being paranoid, but a friendly word of advice – maybe it’s not such a great idea to tell the internet where you are staying, you know, just in case there are not so friendly people lurking on here. it’s a terrible thought, but i had it and thought maybe i’d mention – i’d love to think everyone here is friendly and loving and good (and hopefully we all are) but it’s still the internet and a good idea to protect personal information! have a great trip!

November 7, 2008 at 10:05 amHave a great time!!

November 7, 2008 at 10:30 amGood for you for fitting in a work out before you travel! I agree with you; I try to walk as much as I can and stay active while traveling. It makes me feel so much better!
Have a safe flight, and enjoy your books! Oh, and have so much fun in Chicago 🙂

November 7, 2008 at 12:35 pmHave a safe flight and great time in the windy city! Don’t forget gloves… Chicago is COLD!
Probably not the best time to ask a question, but do you have any suggestions for fun desserts for Thanksgiving? No need for a recipe since I know you can’t give many away baking-wise, but I’m just tired of the same old pumpkin pie & apple pie. Looking for something to spice up the holiday spread. I did chocolate dipped eclairs using a Martha Stewart recipe last year which went over really well, so no need to hold back on any intricate sounding desserts! Thanks!!
Shelly
November 7, 2008 at 12:36 pmUmbrellas are necessary. As well are rainboots, if you have them… I live in Chicago, and walking around (you do a ton of it!) is NOT fun if you have cold wet feet. That being said, have an fantastic weekend in my favorite city!!! Chicago is amazing. 🙂
Lindsey
November 7, 2008 at 12:44 pmI’d cry in freezing rain, or at the very least probably whine like a baby. Just being honest! And LOVE Redeeming Love. First time I read it I literally did not set it down once.
Mariposa
November 7, 2008 at 12:47 pmJenna- in freezing rain a raincoat will only make you cold and and you will still get wet! I second Veggie Girls suggestion- Chicago airport is enormous!!!! maybe there will be something there in the figt shop. even a hoodie or a poncho to put over your coat until you can get to a
store to buy something warmer.
NJ:
Redeeming Love is a book you will read over and over and over again and will always make you feel like you’ve never read it before. Everytime I read it, I bawl my eyes out. Every female in my family has a copy of it!
It’s an 1800s representation of the story of Hosea (the man in the Bible who’s wife was a prostitute) It seriously will make you raise your standards for a partner- because it really shows how a relationship should be.
Oh She Glows
November 7, 2008 at 6:04 pmhaha…..you should experience a Canadian winter! ;p
