Morning!
Happy Raw Wednesday to ya! 🙂
Just as I suspected, I am SUPER sore this morning from yesterday’s yoga. In particular, my lower back and legs feel like lead. Its definitely a good hurt though and I love how yoga never fails to kick my butt.
I was so excited for breakfast this morning because I slaved away yesterday making raw french toast out of Raw Food Real World!
It was pretty easy to prepare. First, I soaked two sliced of Ezekiel cinnamon raisin bread in a mixture of almond milk, cinnamon and nutmeg with a splash of maple syrup
And then I dehydrated the slices in my Excalibur for about five hours on each side, until they were crisp and dry.
And then this morning I topped my “french toast” with raw almond butter, cinnamon and a tiny bit more maple syrup—
And served it with a grapefruit that I had “marinated” in agave nectar last night so it would be a bit sweeter. All together with some English Breakfast tea 🙂
The french toast was good but it was CERTAINLY nothing like the “fried” french toast I made Ryan on Sunday morning. In all honesty, I wasn’t that impressed. I guess I’m just used to the rich eggy kind. I wouldn’t make this again.
I know that Ezekiel bread and maple syrup are not 100% raw but I’m counting this as a raw meal because it came out of my raw cookbook and because its mostly raw! 😉
I’m going to run my standard 2 miles this morning followed by some yoga. Then, hitting the grocery store for our weekly shop and meeting an old friend I used to work with at Anthro for lunch! We are going to some little hole-in-the-wall place that she says is awesome. I looked at the menu and it looks right up my ally. What should I get?!

May 20, 2009 at 5:47 amAww, that’s too bad about the French toast. I guess not all foods translate well into raw ones, but it was mostly raw so it’s all good! I think raw foodists only eat like 90%+ raw anyway, right? 🙂
Have fun on your lunch date! 😀 I wish I could recommend something from that menu, but uh, EVERYTHING looks good. Holy cannoli!! And their drink listing looks incredible! I hope you get something yummy. 😉

May 20, 2009 at 6:11 amYour breakfast looks delicious at least!! THe dehydrator is so cool! I had a raw smoothie for breakfast and it was quite good.
Enjoy your run and yoga! I am also feeling sore today from my session last night!! Holy hamstrings!

May 20, 2009 at 6:18 amwow i never knew you could make so many different foods “raw”! It looks great – sorry it didn’t taste that great. Thanks for sharing with us 🙂

May 20, 2009 at 6:26 amUgh…I’m drooling over that french toast – it looks incredible!! Have a great day!

May 20, 2009 at 6:29 amI would SO go for the Hummus and veggie sandwich. Even though I try and bring something like that to work with me most days, nothing beats the taste of one someone “professional” made. Then again, peanut butter and banana is my favorite…you can’t go wrong!

May 20, 2009 at 6:32 amThe raw french toast looks and sounds good in theory but I get that it is not like the eggy french toast we are used to. I will take the eggy kind but its cool that you experimented!!

May 20, 2009 at 6:34 am1/2 Hummus and fresh veggie sandwich with the soup of the day- the rainy day veggie! yum sounds good to me!!!

May 20, 2009 at 6:43 amI’m so excited to be getting a dehydrator. I found an Excalibur with 9 trays on Craigslist for $65.00….is this a good one? good deal? With all the new raw “cook”books I’ve been reading it seems like a dehydrator is ESSENTIAL to the longevity of this way of life. I’m loving it! AND joining you all in Raw Wednesday!!

May 20, 2009 at 6:45 amRaw Wednesday is a great idea. I’m going to have to get me (or make me) some of that almond butter!

May 20, 2009 at 6:47 amToo bad the french toast wasn’t great because it looks delish! I had a raw “green monster” for my first raw meal today. Yum!!
Have a great workout! Wish I could get some yoga in today. Instead I think I’ll go to pilates at my gym tonight.

May 20, 2009 at 7:30 ambummer about the french toast!! sometimes you just can’t beat a classic 🙂
glad you have that “hurts so good” feeling from yoga!! I have a class tonight and I’m hoping to experience the same.

May 20, 2009 at 7:36 amI’m so excited for Raw Wednesday today! I have struggled with ideas in the past, but this week I found some nutritional yeast alfredo sauce mix that I can’t wait to try with some roasted spaghetti squash tonight. Healthiest “pasta” ever!

May 20, 2009 at 7:42 amSuch a fun breakfast!
Enjoy lunch with your friend!

May 20, 2009 at 7:43 amI was wondering about Ezekiel bread and how “raw” it is. Gena reccommends it to newbies when starting out raw, so I thought it was a good choice. I love the sesame Ezekiel bread! Your french toast looks great, btw!
Amanda
May 20, 2009 at 7:50 amLove that post-yoga soreness 🙂
Fun looking menu – all of the sandwiches look great! I would try the kale salad and either the sandwich with roasted red peppers or jicama!

May 20, 2009 at 7:54 amYoga is the best. I think it does amazing things for the body: prevents injury, keeps you strong as you get older, increases bone density. I just LOVE it and glad you do too.

May 20, 2009 at 7:57 amHmm… while I’m intrigued by the dehydrator to make things like macaroons, i think french toast is just a bit strange! Have a great day!

May 20, 2009 at 8:15 amFirst- that’s great your phone interview went well! Awesome!
I LOVE the feeling of sore after a workout. Well, not sore but worked! I really have to take up yoga!
What type of yoga do you recommend a newbie start with???
Ally
May 20, 2009 at 8:18 amHmmm maybe 1/2 a T’ank with hummus and the kale salad. I’d probably get that. Enjoy!!

May 20, 2009 at 8:23 amI think the Rebel Rebel sandwich sounds good…I like anything with avocado. 🙂

May 20, 2009 at 8:30 ami love that your honest about the raw food that are tasty and the ones that are not so much. have a great lunch!

May 20, 2009 at 8:36 amSo I did strength training yesterday which included A TON of lunges…and my legs and butt are so sore this morning. I was thinking it was because of that.
But I also did a 30 minute yoga session last night for the first time in ages. After reading your post, I think this lovely soreness I am experiencing today is related to the yoga, not the lunges.
I say go with either the Rebel, Rebel or the Full Cuban!

May 20, 2009 at 8:38 amOoh, I would get the AB-B-A or the Hummus and Fresh Vegetable 🙂
Jenn
May 20, 2009 at 8:53 amSorry about the french toast, but that cafe sounds awesome! What a great find! I think the Gorilla Hug drink and summer lovin sandwich sound good. Heck everything on that menu sounds good! Have fun!

May 20, 2009 at 9:23 amToo bad the french toast wasn’t very good! It LOOKS good at least! 😀

May 20, 2009 at 10:00 amHave fun at lunch! The menu looks great, but the best looking deal seems to be the 1/2 sandwich-salad combo with either the Rebel Rebel with Jalapeno Jack, turkey and avocado OR the Fall into Fall for that amazing chevre spread!
Kailey (SnackFace)
May 20, 2009 at 10:00 amThat french toast looks amazing–sorry the taste wasn’t up to par. I think I’d miss that rich, fluffy egginess it normally has! Can’t wait to see what you chose for lunch!
Jess
May 20, 2009 at 10:05 amYeah, the french toast looks good, but “dehydrated” toast just doesn’t sound appealing.
RunToFinish
May 20, 2009 at 10:12 amwow seriusly french toast in the dehydrator…dude it does everything! What would be the benefit to using that instead of a pan? The idea that you aren’t killing things by heating?
Matt
May 20, 2009 at 10:37 amNothing beats “real” french toast! That raw french toast doesn’t look bad though!
Becca
May 20, 2009 at 10:52 amBummer about the french toast not being good! I agree with the above poster, there is nothing like real french toast and that one that you made for Ryan looks fabulous!! Hope you have a great day!
Kelly
May 20, 2009 at 10:53 amSorry to hear that the french toast didn’t leave you impressed. I’ve been wanting to do some raw cooking, but so far haven’t had the greatest luck with the recipes I’ve tried. Maybe I’ll find one that will win me over.
kim
May 20, 2009 at 11:10 ami made some french toast (out of tofu bread) for my mom this morning. But it wasn’t vegan. 🙁
Erin
May 20, 2009 at 11:14 amLOL, in my head, I just think some foods aren’t meant to be raw, french toast among them. Hope you’re lunch out goes way better.
Kristie
May 20, 2009 at 11:18 amRaw french toast? That’s a new one! It SOUNDS like it’d be really neat to try but that’s too bad that it was a bust.
Enjoy the lunch! The foods sounds amazing. I LOVE a good sandwich, yum!

May 20, 2009 at 11:22 amThis post makes me want to try it!

May 20, 2009 at 4:09 pmTo make it more raw you have to by MANNA bread…. it is absolutely delicious. You can buy it in the freezer. I Think that is what Sarma is using. My favorite is the brown rice/millet. Try that and you should get a better result!! Way to stick to the raw though… I love me some raw food = )
