We’re headed up to the north country tonight!
Instead of giving each other Christmas presents this year, Adam and I decided to take a Christmas trip. And then just a few days ago, I pretty much found vacation deal of the year online for a trip to Tahoe!
Like, seriously, this deal I found was insane. It was one of those “stay two nights and get the third night free” type of deals, but also included two 2-day lift tickets! Lift tickets, if you don’t know, are ridiculously expensive as is.
I honestly couldn’t believe the deal and actually called the friendly people over at Heavenly to make sure it was legit, and they told me it was. (if you call them to book a trip, ask for Jason! He was amazing!)
Needless to say, we booked it immediately, packed our bags and are currently heading to the snow for a long vacation weekend of snowboarding and hot chocolate.
Keep your fingers crossed though. Last year when we decided to “casually” go up to Tahoe for the weekend, it ended up taking us ten and a half hours to get there!
That actually didn’t turn out to be such a bad thing though because it pretty much solidified our relationship (the couple that puts on snow chains together stays together?).
But yeah… I’d really like to get there in the normal trip time of four hours this evening.
In other news, you’ll really want to stay tuned for tomorrow morning’s post…….trust me on this one.

December 9, 2010 at 12:28 pmYay! I LOOOOOOOOVE Tahoe! I grew up in Reno, so “going to the lake” meant trips to Taho and going Skiing meant all those FANTASTIC resorts up there. Spoiled for sure with that.
Heavenly is fantastic, but Kirkwood is my all-time fav!

December 9, 2010 at 12:50 pmUm, yeah . .. the 11 hour road trip will either make or break your relationship. My (then) boyfriend (now husband) and I took a pleasant trip from NYC to Boston that took . . . 11 hours. An oil tanker decided a good location to spill it’s load would be both sides of a main highway. That works. I think it was after he peed in a coffee cup in the backseat, while I assumed control of the steering wheel, that it was pretty much decided we would be heading down the wedded road 🙂 But after awhile (or maybe it’s the fumes), everything becomes just funny – and if you’re with someone who can reach that point too, then you might have something 🙂
Have a fun weekend!!

December 9, 2010 at 1:05 pmI’m a big fan of the holiday-trip-over-holiday-presents idea. This is the first year that my husband and I are doing it – we’re heading south next weekend for 8 glorious days in and around New Orleans. Can’t wait to collect my students’ exams and hop on that plane!
Safe travels!

December 9, 2010 at 3:24 pmHave a blast! I love Tahoe, Heavenly, skiing, but the hottubbing (and vino drinking) after a day on the slopes is the best 🙂
Have fun and take care of your shoulder….no extra lil injuries I hope!

December 9, 2010 at 3:35 pmOhhh, have fun!
I love stories like that. I got snowed in with my now boyfriend on something like our second “date.” I use the term loosely, because I hate dates. Anyway, the accidental weekend spent together was quite perfect. Actually, the whole winter resulted in lots of being snowed in together, so this time of year is strangely fun for me.

(north shore, tho :)) if you guys need something ridiculous to witness this trip, there is a santa crawl in reno this Saturday night that is usually spectacular for people-watching hilarity…:) Enjoy the snow we are supposed to get this weekend, too!

December 14, 2010 at 3:28 pmOh I love last minute getaways! I don’t know why, but they always seem to be better if they are only for a few days, it makes the time more precious! I’m hoping for a getaway myself come January time!
