Breakfast/ Lunch

Crossin’ County Lines

Good day yall! I guess I can’t say good morning since it’s already 2:15!!!!! I feel like it should be 10:00 at night, seeing as I’ve already driven across the state of Florida and back….now I’m ready for a nap!

Sorry for not being able to blog earlier, I didn’t get home from school last night until 12:15 and I had to wake up at 7:00 to get on the road to Vero Beach to go do paperwork and stuff at my new job. It was a rushed morning and I was up and out in fifteen minutes flat. A new record! I brought breakfast for the road—-a yummy, portable breakfast sammie!  I used 2 egg whites, 1 slice reduced fat cheddar, 1 morningstar farms sausage and a rudi’s whole wheat bagel. It was cheesy, gooey and quite yummy in my tummy.

I also had some banana slices with strawberries and got a Dunkin Donuts coffee on the way (Lord knows I needed it this morning…..ah!)

I was quite tired and actually missed the exit for the interstate resulting in a 15 minute detour in cocoa beach. Bah! I snacked on an apple on the way:

I finally got there, fifteen minutes late but there nonetheless. It was great to see Adam, the executive pastry chef, again since I had last seen everyone there back in March when I went there for a few days and helped out. Everyone is sooo nice and made me feel very welcome. I got a big binder with tons of paperwork to fill out and a tentative schedule of how my days/weeks/months will go while I’m there. Basically, he is breaking it up into two week periods for me. The first two weeks I’m going to do all the breads and pastries for the club, the second week all the plated desserts and so on….I’m going to get a lot of experience in every area, which will be great!

I brought my lunch today to save money! I packed an almond butter and jam whole wheat pita with some veggies and a peach. It was sort of plain, but I probably saved about $10 on some gourmet sandwich somewhere…..every little bit counts!

I drove across the street to the beach, parked my car and ate lunch while watching the waves 🙂

I also visited my new “host family” (aka my best friend’s parents) and saw my future room. I’m sooo grateful for them!

Okay……my eyes are heavy and I’m going try to take a bit of a nap now after all that driving. I plan to go to the gym later this afternoon when I get up and maybe do some grocery shopping. Its going to be a quiet weekend but we all need those once in a while!!

But first….here’s some of the chocolates I made last night in school! I actually didn’t eat any of them (I know…I can hear the groan over my computer), but I licked my fingers and spoon enough times to get about five. I felt sugared out by the end of the night. Bleh.

Milk chocolate with a mystery filling (I honestly can’t remember…I need a nap!)

And the ones I personally made—-white chocolate with a mimosa filling (filling of white chocolate, orange zest, orange juice and champagne). I COULD NOT keep my fingers out of this!!!!!

hi jenna! I am so happy your new job will be such great experience! They will love you! I have a couple questions for you…

when you make egg whites or even a whole egg for a sandwich or whatever, do you microwave it? Or cook it in a skillet? Do you add milk or water? Do you add oil to the pan/microwaveable bowl?

Sorry, that was lots of questions. 🙂

Also, do you buy organic fruit? I try try try… but I’m going broke. I might have asked before, I apolgize if I did! Thanks bunches…….

This question is open to anyone.

What are your views on the Alli dietary supplement? Does it work? Is it healthy? Is it worth the money?

… Because diet and exercise alone is not working for me. And even my doctor is puzzled because I eat balanced meals and exercise everyday. Nothing is working, and I do NOT want to resort to any fad diets or any diets for that matter.

    KrisT:

I don’t hold a medical degree, but I personally think Alli sounds terrifying. A synthetic drug that disables your body’s natural enzymes and metabolic processes, just to lose 5 extra pounds? Whyyyyy do that to yourself? What are the long-term effects? The undigested fat is excreted from your body via the bowels, so I don’t see how that’s any different from using laxatives to purge. It probably sounds neurotic, but I simply do not trust the pharmaceutical industry, especially when they’re targeting Americans looking for a weight-loss ‘quick fix’ — just look at some of the lawsuits that have resulted from dangerous drugs being prematurely rushed to market (fen-phen, anyone?)

Excuse me, I’ll get off my pulpit now 😉

    Hi jenna,
Just wanted to let you know that i finally tried the Egg-McMuffin breakfast you made and i loved it!!! I used the Ekeziel english muffins, a laughing cow light swiss cheese, morningstar breakfast sausage pattie and eggs (all of the egg)…it was really yummy. I made one for my mom too and she loved it as well. This will be a definite rotation in my breakfast lineup!!!

Thanks a lot for this one!!!
