Behind The Butter

dexter’s mice

This is a brief ode to Dexter’s stuffed mice.

Ever since he was a wee little kitty, he’s loved these mice with all his little cat-heart.

There’s jimmy:

Dexter used to drown Jimmy in his water bowl and once, I contemplated sewing up his back.

But then I remembered I can’t sew. So I gave him a treat instead.

Next is Leonard:

Who resembles a catfish.

And finally, Edmund, the most special of all.

You see, last week I couldn’t find my favorite t-shirt so I was digging around in Adam’s suitcase, which was naturally still packed from over Christmas.

I didn’t find my t-shirt. But I did find Edmund!

Dexter was very happy to have him back and played non-stop until he passed out in a black furry heap with Jimmy, Leonard and Edmund by his side.

For the life of me though, I still can’t figure out how Edmund got into Adam’s suitcase to begin with.

The End.

Those toys are so cute. And much better than real mice. I wouldn’t have known what to do if my dog ever came towards me having taken care of a real mouse.

I think our cats are long lost brothers. I have an all black cat named Jerry. Jerry can’t live with his four little mousy friends. He plays for hours ping-ponging his playmates about the house – drowning in the sink, instead of his water – and then falls over with all four mice by his side.
When I look at him sleeping with his mice, I can’t help but scoop him up and kiss him on the nose. I don’t think he likes that part much.

Those are the cutest mice ever! Dexter is a very lucky kitty 🙂

Edmund almost looks like he’s doing a downward dog, the best dog a mouse could do, so to speak 🙂

Cats! They will put anything anywhere, I swear. The mice are super cute. My cats like playing with real mice, bats, and those little plastic balls with the jingly bells inside. Also tin foil balls. And balls made of paper.

This is too cute! My cat Frank refuses to play with mice. Unless they are real and he has escaped off his leash and hunted them down. Then he drags them proudly around for a while … but he goes nuts for that laser pointer!

It’s so funny what toys cats fall in love with. My sisters cat is totally OBSESSED with an ear plug. She runs like wild whenever she finds it. Beats all her fancy toys any day…

PS-I am hoping to get tickets to the mac & cheese off at noon!

My little Harley loves her mice too. I can’t tell you how many times I have had to save a mouse from the water bowl. She has recently taken to throwing them up in the air and then trying to catch them before they hit the ground again. She is really special.

Too cute. My cat Nubbin is obsessed with his mice too although they only last for about month before they are totally “loved” to pieces. I used to give them all different names, but now they are all just Richard. Various Richards (i.e. Richard Featherbottom, Tiny Richard, Downtown Richard brown) all based on how they look. Apparently this post is making my inner crazy cat lady come out, because I read often (and make many of the recipes), but I’m not a commenter until it comes to cat posts!

Haha. I love the names! We have four mice in our collection, and only one has a name: Monsieur Pierre. He is currently hanging from the cat’s scratching post. Tough life.

This is hilarious. My cat, Jasper, has one too, except his name is just “Mousey”. He also used to drowned him in his water dish! I used to tell him that if he kept doing that, he can’t play with Mousey until he dries, yet he still did it. Finally he learned… I think. He also plays for ridiculous amounts of time with his Mousey and brings it to me to throw it for him. Gotta love cats! Maybe ours are related??

A few weeks ago I came home to find what looked like my cat’s mouse toy on the floor. Thinking nothing of it I left it there for an hour while I caught up on blogs, homework etc. Upon closer inspection I realized it wasn’t a toy but my cat had caught a mouse in my apartment. Guess who had to clean it up!!

What is it with cats and drowning mice in the water bowl? My little one has lost several mice that way and has twice drowned my bluetooth headsets. The only toy that she won’t drown is Squirrel. She adores Squirrel.

awwww…your ode makes me want a cat of my own. I had two kittens in college, and when I briefly moved home after graduating, I left them at my parents. That was almost 8 years ago and now as much as my mom will try to tell you she wants me to take them back, I KNOW she would never let them leave her house!

    You are so creative BTW!!!

My kitty loves her mice too. Oddly, two of them have come back from I don’t where. I haven’t seen them in months and now all of the sudden they are back from wherever they were hiding. Glad she found them and I don’t have to buy more. Although, she’s very into playing with the cap from my bottle of shaving cream – cheapest toy ever!
