Happy Tuesday!
I just got off the phone with the pet hotel that Dexter is vacationing to this weekend. I’ve never boarded him before so I was a little nervous but this place sounds like a luxury resort! I feel like a parent about to drop my child off at daycare or something for the first time!
Pumpkin egg white oatmeal for breakfast!

I used 1/2 cup oats, 1 cup water, 1/4 cup liquid egg whites (stirred into the water), a few dried cherries, 1/4 cup pumpkin and barney butter. Adding egg whites to your oatmeal is EASY y’all! Just pour it right in then keep stirring while the oats cook.
I’ve got a bit of a busy day ahead of me. At 10:00, my friend Phillip is coming over again and we are going to some sort of bike trail for “training lessons”. He says this will be a lot better because there will be NO cars, NO stoplights and if I fall, I’ll just topple over in the soft grass rather than the concrete. Perfect.
Then, I have to take my car to Honda because its making some obscure scraping noise that is causing me to worry a little bit. Gahhh
Time to get some writing done first thing—have a great Tuesday!

February 2, 2010 at 7:57 amGood luck on your bike ride! Getting the hang of things without the distraction of cars is DEFINITELY a good plan! I’m sure your little furry friend will be just fine in his swanky hotel!

February 2, 2010 at 8:15 amI’m sure Dexter will be ok! I don’t have a pet but I’ve been begging for one. I’d be afraid to leave them, too. 🙁

February 2, 2010 at 8:25 amEgg white oats are extremely delicious and a great way to work in some lean protein! I wish I could find some pumpkin around here…everyone seems to be out now! Applesauce works well too with it! Have fun riding!

February 2, 2010 at 8:26 amGood luck on your bike ride! I have never tried egg white oats. It makes me a bit nervous, haha but I they sound delicious!

February 2, 2010 at 8:29 amI had a Honda that made an scraping noise before, and I believe it was a rock stuck in my brake pad/something of that nature. (not too good with cars! 🙂 sorry). Maybe it could be that?

February 2, 2010 at 8:32 amI love pumpkin egg-white oats! Thanks for getting me hooked! Just had some this morning. I like to add in cinnamon, nutmeg, and raisins as well.

February 2, 2010 at 8:41 amAwww…seriously, some of those places are CRAZY nice. When we boarded our dogs when we went on our honeymoom, there was the option of paying for “web cam” to check in on them whenever we wanted. My husband was like, “Absolutely not.” I really wanted it 🙂
They also had flat screen tvs playing “pet specific” videos. Hilarious.

February 2, 2010 at 8:42 amI just found out I may be doing a triathalon and, though I’m 100% comfortable with running and swimming, the biking part scares me! So good luck, you’re my inspiration 😉

February 2, 2010 at 8:50 amgood luck on the bike! I never want to learn to ride with clip-in shoes. it intimidates me. i like hearing about your adventures though 🙂

February 2, 2010 at 8:50 amHi Jenna! I have a yoga question for ya – have you ever practiced hot yoga with a cold? I’m supposed to try out a new studio this evening with a friend but am just getting over a head cold. I’m wondering if the heat will make it worse or possibly clear me up?
jenna
February 2, 2010 at 9:20 amMary Catherine,
Yep, I have! I think you will be fine…usually (or for me, anyway) the heat works to detoxify me and I feel a lot better after!

February 2, 2010 at 8:59 amSo glad you are getting right back on your bike! Have a great ride today!
And I’m sure Dexter will be fine! It is always hard to leave a pet! We once talked my mom into doing it when we were all going on a family vacation. They assured her that they would put all the family dogs next to each other, and give them play time together! Most people who run these places absolutely love animals!
Have a great trip…hope your travel is uneventful!

February 2, 2010 at 9:00 amI’m sure Dexter is having a blast at the pet spa! 😉 My grandparents take their dog to one that offers doggie massages, TV (you can choose the shows!) and other pet pampering. I want to go! 😛

February 2, 2010 at 9:05 amI’m making baked oats as we speak. This is my first attempt to find a good oatmeal breakfast that doesn’t have the porriage texture. (I know you love it, but it grosses me out.) There has to be a way I like to eat oats. It smells awesome.

February 2, 2010 at 9:30 amDo you think I could add real egg to oatmeal? I don’t use the liquid eggs since they are made in a really unnatural sort of way. Plus I’m a big fan of yolks 🙂 But I’d really like to do some more protein in the morning to keep me full.

February 2, 2010 at 9:35 amLove that you’re spending part of Groundhog Day with a guy named Phil. 🙂

February 2, 2010 at 9:36 amSounds like Dexter is having a good time! I’ve never boarded any of my animals before – might have to look into it!
I recently started added egg whites to my oatmeal and I love it! I was following a lot of Tosca Reno’s Clean Eating plans and she always had egg whites on the side, but it’s so much easier to just mix them in! I usually take the oats off the burner, stir in the egg whites, put them back on the burner and stir like crazy. It’s delicious!

February 2, 2010 at 10:20 amI agree it is hard dropping off your “kiddo” at a doggie daycare. Our English Setter is always excited when she gets there which makes us feel a little better about leaving her behind.. non-the-less its hard.

February 2, 2010 at 11:56 amThat sounds like a great way to practice and get your confidence up! Oatmeal looks amazing – as always.

February 2, 2010 at 11:58 amI had to chuckle at your boarding Dexter. My dog’s first day at daycare, I called to check on her. (My sister made fun of me for wanting to hear the sound of her bark.) She stays at my parents when my husband and I go on vacation and I expect a text or e-mail update at least once a day so I know she is OK! =)

February 2, 2010 at 11:59 amI used to get a local ‘cat lady’ granny off Craigslist to come feed/play with cat on the theory it’s better to leave them in their own home. But since Dexter’s a ‘traveling kind of cat’ he might like to change it up and visit with other cats. Hope he does–he’s SO cute in photos!

March 8, 2010 at 12:08 pmI keep making this pumpkin oatmeal and mine taste simply horrible. I don’t want to give up but it’s so frustrating 🙁 I’ve been using pureed pumpkin filling and. Is that the right kind? Anyone can answer 🙂
