Good Morning!
Gosh, I had the strangest dreams last night. I dreamt that all these sea creatures…whales, squid and seals were all over the place. Maybe I miss the ocean?! 😉
I’m so excited because MY BIKE is in!!!!!!!! I am going to the bike store today to pick it up and get pedals and shoes. SO EXCITING!!!! I feel like I also should get a bike rack for my car? That might be useful in the long run.
Anyways, just ate a grapefruit and some egg white oats:

I think grapefruit is one of the most “quenching” fruits that there is. Some people don’t like the flavor but I crave it. Winter citrus is sort of amazing.

I’m off to yoga then I’m working at the studio this morning. See you later!

January 27, 2010 at 7:59 amHooray for the new bike! I can’t wait to see pics of it! I’d recommend getting a bike rack if you can. I fought it for a year but then I got one and I’m glad I did. They are very handy – esp. if you need to transport more than one bike. Get one with a built-in cable lock.

January 27, 2010 at 8:04 amI never used to like grapefruit, but you’re right – they are suberb for rehydrating (especially after hot yoga!). I like to top grapefruit halves with a bit of brown sugar and broil until caramelized.

January 27, 2010 at 8:05 amI’ve tried to get into grapefruit but it’s just too sour for me! Oh well

January 27, 2010 at 8:07 amI also crave grapefruit. Sometimes it is the only thing that quenches my thirst!

January 27, 2010 at 8:10 amI tried egg whites for the first time in my oats this weekend and you are SO right! they make them soo amazingly creamy and wonderful!
I love grapefruit and especially grapefruit juice. I’m weird though and can’t stand any of the white pulpy skin so I tear off everything and eat only the juicy fruit 🙂

January 27, 2010 at 8:16 amI’m sure you answered this a million times before, but how exactly do you make your egg white oats? Microwave or stovetop? If you could direct me to a place where you’ve previously posted the recipe I’d be very grateful. 🙂
Diana @ frontyardfoodie
January 27, 2010 at 8:16 amI love the flavor of grapefruit. When the weather gets cold I crave it. I think because that’s the time I always eat it and it’s nostalgic.

January 27, 2010 at 8:23 amhi jenna, just curious, in general when you make things with egg whites do you just throw away the yolks or is there a way (or any good reason) to save them? also, what kind of bike did you get? my hubs and i are looking into buying bikes, mostly for fun but also potentially for “fun” races or bike trips…any suggestions?
Katie@ Two Lives, One Lifestyle
January 27, 2010 at 8:24 amSo exciting about the bike- enjoy!!! My road bike fits in my civic back seat, so you might not need a rack depending on what kind of car you have.

January 27, 2010 at 8:24 amOooo how fun!!! I am dying to hop on my bike – but, oh wait – there’s 2 feet of snow on the ground. 🙁 Spring can’t come soon enough for this girl!

January 27, 2010 at 8:24 amI hate grapefruit. I wish I liked it, but it’s just so bitter!!
I miss the ocean too, sometimes. I live within 10 minutes of it, but I rarely get over there. Funny.

January 27, 2010 at 8:28 amAh, I love grapefruit. And I love peeling & eating it by the sections like that (not in the halves with the little sections like at brunch). Had one with breakfast. That plus poms make winter more bearable!

January 27, 2010 at 8:28 amhurray for the new bike! a bike rack is probably a must-do, because it’s likely you’ll fall in love with it and want to take your bike everywhere 🙂

January 27, 2010 at 8:30 amI agree with your sentiment on grapefruit. It is pretty spectacular.
The bike rack certainly sounds like a good investment that’ll be extremely helpful. Also, Lake Tahoe isn’t too far off from where you’re at. I highly recommend you check out some of the gorgeous biking trails over there! I’m completely biased, though, because Tahoe is one of my favorite places on the planet.

January 27, 2010 at 8:30 amI thought that I was the only one who peeled and ate grapefruit like an orange – no sweetener needed. It definitely is a “quencher.”

January 27, 2010 at 10:34 amHi Jenna, perhaps this question has been asked before and I missed it – how do you get to trade working at yoga studios for free sessions? (I think that’s how you explained it) I believe you did the same thing in another city as well… What a sweet deal! Do you get to do that because you are a well-known blogger (and you promise to blog about the studio) or… for some other reason?

January 27, 2010 at 12:36 pmgood luck with the new bike, but as an avid biker I would stress that you get used to the bike first before you get the shoes and clips, you will fall when you’re getting used to them…the road bike is so different than a hybrid, it handles very differently… Have fun..

January 27, 2010 at 2:05 pmHi Jenna,
Congratulations on the bike! I am a cyclist and I think you will soon learn that Sonoma County is some of the best riding in the country! My two pieces of advice:
1. Be very careful learning with your clip in shoes. You will fall. I know it sounds harsh, but it happens to everyone. My knees have the scars to prove how fun those darling little clip ins can be. 🙂
2. Someone mentioned getting a lock, but I will pass on the advice I got when buying my nice road bike. You don’t need a lock because you should never need to lock it up. Meaning, it should live in your house and you should never leave it alone anywhere that it would need a lock, otherwise it will get stolen. Not too fun to think of I know, but I have known many people who have had their nice bikes stolen.
Have fun!

January 27, 2010 at 4:14 pmhey jenna,
I have been noticing a lot of tempeh recently. what is your recommended way of preparation?
jenna
January 28, 2010 at 7:36 amAmy,
Honestly, all the tempeh I have been eating recently has totally just been raw, straight from the package with no preparation. It took a little getting used to but actually I like the taste. However, you could also simmer the tempeh for 10 minutes in water to make it less bitter!
