Not-So Healthy Dinner

Ryan and I decided to just go out for pizza tonight since I didn’t really feel like cooking and last night’s dinner was a little on the pricey side. We went to a local dive that had a bar, so football was on and Ryan loved that! My family are all huge Green Bay Packer fans since my mom’s family is all from wisconsin. So, we ate our pizza and watched football. Not a bad Sunday night!

On half of the pizza (my half),  I ordered black olives, tomatoes and mushrooms. Ryan had pepperoni on his half. On the whole thing we got feta cheese because we both love feta! I also had a side salad to start. I ate two slices. Then…..after dinner we went to grab some frozen yogurt because in my mind, you can’t have pizza and not have frozen yogurt for dessert! The two just go together! I got white chocolate with chocolate chips and sprinkles but after I ate a few bites I realized how full I was and didn’t finish what you see below. I probably ate about 1/2 of it—about 40 calories worth.

Now we are home, all warm on the couch under blankets watching more football. Hope your Sunday night was as relaxing as mine!

Mmm…….that looks good, I never thought of adding feta to pizza!

Did that lunch fill you? I would have been starving. Sometimes I feel my portions are off and might be eating too much?

I love the fact that you can eat something “unhealthy” like pizza, and still go out for dessert after!

    Yeah Go Packers!
We’re major fans up in Upper Michigan too:) It’s about as cold here as it is in GB, I’m extremely jealous that you can run outside! Your dinner looked delicious, I so wish we had a frozen yogurt place like that:)

Talk about ‘not-so-healthy”, ugh! My sister in law was in town and we had to go to Red Robin for dinner. I got a chicken burger and some fries and I looked it up on their website after getting home and I ingested around 1000 calories and 42 grams of fat! I am so grossed out, yuck, I cannot wait to go to the gym tomorrow. (but by the way-it was really good!)

    Laura,

NO that lunch did not fill me up and yes, I was starving!! I seriously have a crazy appetite…..I eat so much! Good thing I have a fast metabolism because of all the exercise I do and good genes 😉

After I ate that lunch I had a fage yogurt and a pear before going to a movie with my mom. I also had hot tea, which often works to tide you over between meals and snacks. Then, Ryan and I went to an early dinner where I proceeded to eat all that! If you are gaining weight you are eating too much….if your weight has been stable and your clothes fit then you are not eating “too much”. Don’t worry about eating too much…worry more about eating junk food or not exercising. Eat when you are hungry…stop when you are full! That’s the secret to life 🙂

    Tina,

I’m willing to bed my dinner was about the same calories as yours. I prefer not to think about it or look it up after I’ve already eaten it…..I just enjoy it when I do eat it because its not an everyday thing! Good thing one night of unhealthy eating won’t make you gain weight—it takes more than that! I’m sure you will be right back on track tomorrow (me too hopefully!)….I LOVE pizza though!!!!!

Jenna, have another quick question. I plan on trying the cliff bars you mentioned, but are those the same as luna? Do you prefer one over the other? Sorry for so many.

    Hey Jenna –

Just want to let you know I am obsessed with your blog. You really have a unique and amazing perspective and relationship with food – I work to emulate it! I just made your mushroom/olive risotto recipe tonight, it was amazing! I had with with a salad and hummus and was so full after I was surprised. I have a question – I realized I have an allergy to artificial sweetners but a horrible sweet tooth. It is a good thing because I have way too much of it in my diet but what healthy sweeteners and sweet things do you recommend? How can I work to not crave something sweet after every meal? I want to make the switch from splenda/equal/sugar-free to more natural and healthy alternatives without gaining weight…so any advice you have would help. Thanks so much – keep up the blog it is fabulous!!

Laura- Clif are a little more caloric than Luna but I think Lara are the best they have the simplest ingrediant list ever! It usually only has two or three completely natural ingrediants!

Laura – I second Ashley on that one – i LOVE larabars because of their all natural ingredients – usually a base of dates, one or two kinds of nuts, and some other dried fruit – all organic and typically unsulphered

Clif and Luna both provide more protein – 10 grams each versus only 4-5 in a Larabar

I think it is a good idea to try them all to see which one you like the best – i have found that when i enjoy the bar I am much more satisfied hunger wise than if i have one that i don’t enjoy as much even if i am told it is better for me.

But i would also like to hear what Jenna has to say 🙂

Cliff bars are NOT the same as Luna. Everyone is different but generally I really dont like Luna bars. I think they are too sweet, have too much sugar in them and I just don’t really like the taste. I used to eat them when I was a freshman in college and got a little burned out I think. On the other hand, I really LOVE clif bars. I think they are a great pre-workout snack…I wouldn’t eat the whole thing for a “snack”, but I have gotten used to eating half before going running and find them to be the perfect fuel. They don’t have anything artificial in them and, like ashley said, the ingredient list is much simpler and more “wholesome” than Luna bars. I also like Larabars a lot…they don’t contain much protein though so they really dont keep me full for more than 2 hours as a snack. My new favorite are the KIND:fruit and nut bars. I LOVE these!!!! They are like candy bars to me…..if you can find them, try them out!

Jenna, KIND should compliment you for all your promotion ;). I just bought them the other day and had a Nuts Delight to hold me over in the large span between my lunch and dinner, it was amazing! Not only was it absolutely delicious but I was not hungry once! Thanks for the recommendation!

I recommend Kashi TLC bars! My two favs are the chocolate cherry and the peanut peanut butter. they have minimal sugar, a good amount of fiber, and only 120-140 calories a piece! i think they make a great portable snack in between meals – any time i travel i carry a few in my carry on!

    Thank you for THIS:

“If you are gaining weight you are eating too much….if your weight has been stable and your clothes fit then you are not eating “too much”. Don’t worry about eating too much…worry more about eating junk food or not exercising. Eat when you are hungry…stop when you are full! That’s the secret to life.”

    🙂

It is my food/exercise/life philosophy that I live by! I think sometimes people have a hard time believing that it really CAN be that easy!

I second the Kashi bars too…they are GREAT at low calories and sugar. 5 grams protein, 4 grams fibre, 8 grams sugar. In my mind, I could eat TWO of these (240 calories) and still be equal or lower in cals than most other bars. 🙂 Love them!

Amen! It really is THAT simple. People just make it way more complicated than it ever was and ever needs to be!!!
