Behind The Butter

The Road to Clean Beauty

This is a post brought you to by popular demand – it’s been a long time coming! I have been talking a lot about skincare and beauty products over on my Instagram lately, and many of you have asked for a more in depth look at my “journey” transitioning from “normal” products to an all natural line. I’m happy to write about it today! Revamping my skincare routine not only has really done absolute wonders for my face, but also given me such a relaxing routine at night to wind down…and I swear I have been sleeping better!

So, let’s chat about this. I have sort of been all over the place with cleansers. FOREVER I just used those Neutrogena makeup remover wipes on my face at night and that is it! I think I started doing that when I was pregnant with Grayson because it was just so easy at the end of the day to swipe and fall into bed…and they really do remove ALL makeup! I didn’t tone. I didn’t moisturize…all I did was wipe and go. During the day for the past four years, I have used all Beautycounter makeup products on my face. I absolutely adore their tinted sunscreen, blush and lip sheer lipsticks. I started doing research a few years ago about the toxins that we inadvertently expose ourselves to on a daily basis – many being in our makeup and cleansers! So, I was happy to switch to a super super SUPER safe line. I love Beautycounter!

Then, about a year ago I tried my first Primally Pure product — the deodorant! I wanted to use something all natural that actually worked after reading about the potential harm in antiperspirants. I was SOLD! The deodorant worked so well (and smells so good!) and I couldn’t believe something “all natural” worked so well. I also tried the Fancy Face Serum a year ago and loved that, too. I would still use my makeup remover wipe at night, but then I started following it up with the serum before bed. That was step one for me. πŸ˜‰

About six months ago, I finally got rid of my makeup remover wipes and started just using pure ol’ coconut oil at night on my face. I felt like I was using such great products on my skin in the morning (my BeautyCounter makeup) so it only made sense that I make the total switch to a safe, natural line at night, too. I was prepared for a bit of a detox, but that never happened. I fell in love with using the oil cleansing method on my skin (all that means is that you wash your face with oil. The oil gets down deep into your pores and pulls out all the yucky junk and grime and makeup). Because I knew I already loved a bunch of Primally Pure products already, I decided to go further with oil cleansing and order some of their cleansing oil for normal skin!

I can truly say I ADORE this product. It goes the extra step from coconut oil because it has essential oils in it that clean your skin even more efficiently. It smells like a spa and I just love the whole experience of washing my face now. If you’re used to using a conventional product, your skin may go through a bit of a detox when you switch to all natural and organic, but I can say that (in my opinion) it is 100% worth it!

Every night, now my before bed routine consists of taking a long shower and spending time pampering my skin. It truly relaxes me and my form of self care. In the shower, I use a quarter size drop of the cleansing oil on dry skin (it’s the very first thing I do in the shower). I massage the oil in my skin for about a minute. I really get in there and massage! It’s SO lovely. Then, I wet a clean washcloth with hot water and hold it over my face until it cools down. This lets the oil draw up all the junk in your pores. πŸ™‚ I then just wipe away the oil (and all eye makeup!!) with the warm washcloth. This part feels so good. I wish I would have started doing this earlier because it makes me feel like I’m doing such a good thing for my body in general. I care so much about what I eat and strive to eat organic…so it’s only natural I aim to take the same care of my skin, right?

When I get out of the shower, I spray the Everything Spray on a cotton ball and gently wipe my face. I love this because I love the smell of witch hazel and lavender. It also reminds me of a spa! Then, every other night I will use the Beautycounter Overnight Resurfacing Peel. This product is rather new to me but I just love how soft and glowy (is that even a word?) it makes my skin. I have been using it now for a few weeks and really like it a lot!

I let the peel work it’s magic for a few minutes, then I will rub my face down with the Primally Pure Beauty Cream.  It’s truly hard for me to say what my favorite product of theirs is because I honestly (really!) love them all, but this cream is up there. It smells absolutely heavenly and I love the almost whipped texture.

And it’s just plain FUN – I mean look at that color!

Don’t worry, it doesn’t stay blue on your face. It absorbs almost immediately and feels so good. That’s it for my nighttime skin routine! After that, I just use either the Primally Pure body butter or the body oil on my skin — especially my growing belly — and it’s off to bed.

In the morning, I will wipe my face down with Everything Spray first then use the Beauty Cream and the Beautycounter eye cream. My skin is dry during pregnancy and I need all the moisture I can get!

So that is it, you guys! I can’t even tell you what a difference all this has made to me. I am now carving out a chunk of time to take care of myself at night rather than just using a makeup wipe and falling into bed. I love the routine of it and how it makes me feel. I honestly can say I am falling asleep easier these days! I’m sure many of you guys can relate to being a mom of little people and not really getting a lot of time for yourself during the day. I’m with at least one toddler all day long – and in the hour I have free, I’m working! It’s so important to take care of yourself and I knew I needed to invest more in that department, especially since I’m growing another little human. πŸ˜‰

I feel like I finally have found a product line that I just LOVE and will stand by. The Primally Pure products are totally organic and don’t contain any ingredients I can’t pronounce. It feels good to know, without a doubt, I am doing something so good for skin when I use them…and the best part is that they actually WORK! I mean, I have used “natural” skincare stuff in the past that didn’t really cut it. This line really works for me and I am thankful I found it. By the way, I purchased all these items with my own money and this is not a sponsored post from the company. I’m just sharing what is working for me since so many of you have been asking. I also started using an all natural, organic line on my hair but that’s another post for another time. πŸ˜‰

I hope this helps!

A bit ago in an Insta Story, you mentioned an app that you scan the UPC code and it tells you how “clean” or “dirty” the product is. Would you share that again please?

I looked up this past because I thought you had mentioned using primally pure products before. Are you still using their products? Do you mind sharing your current skincare routine? Looking for more natural products myself. I’ve used some Beautycounter. Thanks!
