I became friends with the condo treadmill this afternoon. It might have been my sweet new Team in Training jersey, or the fact that for the first time in a long time, I just really wanted to run. Whatever it was, I busted out a great 3 mile run in 26 minutes and for the first time in a very long time, it felt GREAT. I felt like I was running out all the raw emotion I’ve had inside me for the past two weeks and once I got into the groove, I never wanted to stop. I think I could have ran 5 miles but cut myself off after 3 since I don’t want any re-occurring shin splint problems.
There was no shin pain or tummy problems…I did start cramping up after 2.5 miles but I massaged my stomach while I ran and finished strong. I think it was because, again, I snacked and then ran too soon. But my snack was so good! I tried one of these delicious dried bananas that Chrissy sent me wrapped up in raw almond butter. Yum!
Now that was a powerful roll-up!
After my run, I headed out to my local health food store to grab a juice (apple, carrot, beet, ginger, celery) and some supplies for tomorrow. 😉
If you are wondering why I bought a juice instead of make my own, its because I still haven’t moved everything over to Ryan’s and I have to remember to get my juicer tomorrow from my parent’s house! I feel so much better when I juice daily and when you own a great juicer, there’s no excuse not to.
I found this pound of Fage on sale for $1.99! Sweet!
And then for dinner, Ryan and I actually met his parents and grandmother out at a nice Spanish restaurant. You all know how much I love my Spanish food although I still can’t get myself to eat rice and beans after eating so much of them the week John died.
I had two glasses of homemade sangria—
A house salad with the dressing on the side—
And, my favorite, PAELLA!
This was aaaaamazing, especially after I doused it in the restaurant’s super spicy hot sauce. There were scallops, shrimp, mussels (my fav!), clams, lobster, chicken and squid in it and I think I had enough leftover so I don’t have to cook for a week. After I had finished eating it looked like I had hardly made a dent but I am so stuffed right now its not even funny!
What are you doing with your mom tomorrow?
As you can only imagine, it is going to be a hard day for my mom because of my brother. However, I am taking things into my own hands and early tomorrow morning we are heading out to a new yoga studio 30 minutes away in the “country” for a special Mother’s Day class. The studio is on 5 acres of wilderness and has nature trails and picnic tables so after our class we are going to take a long walk through the trails and then have the special picnic lunch I planned! 🙂 Then, in the afternoon, we are meeting my dad for that Disney Earth Day movie that we all have been eager to see. After that, I’m cooking dinner.
Phew! Yep, I’ve had it planned….the REAL “surprise” although its not really a surprise since my mom knows about it is that next weekend we both have tickets to the Tampa Bay Fine Wine and Food Festival on the beach at the Don CeSar hotel. I got a media pass ticket for the whole weekend for the blog (thanks, Foodbuzz!!!) and I splurged and bought my mom a ticket too so we could enjoy a Saturday full of wine and gourmet food tasting together. I’ve been excited about this for months! Its pretty much the foodie event of the YEAR here in Tampa 🙂
I’m off to bed since it’ll be a pretty early morning. Have a great night!

May 9, 2009 at 7:59 pmToday my parents and I went house shopping, shopping, and to lunch. I’m making lunch for tomorrow after church…pomegranate marinated pork loin, roasted potatoes, green beans, melon, and strawberry pie! My mom is just excited that she gets to eat with her children…we all live in different cities about 4 hours apart. Hope your day goes well tomorrow.

May 9, 2009 at 9:05 pmHooray for that run of yours!! And bravo for stopping after 3 miles, that was really smart. Your plans with your mom sound completely wonderful, and it’s great that you’ll have some time to get away and relax! I am actually heading home NEXT weekend to see my mom, so I told her to pick something that she’s wanted to do (see a girly movie, go to a funky restaurant), but can’t get my stepdad into, and we will have a girl day!!!

May 9, 2009 at 9:52 pmjenna,
ive read your blog for a bit now. i feel as though we tend to get injured around the same time, and think there is something nice about someone else who is taking time off for their injury. I’m glad however that you’re able to run again. There is nothing like dealing with life through running. The physical experience of pulling you’re body through hills, and hard cement is the best, and most productive release. I just wanted to let you know I’m sorry for you loss, but I think you’re a fanatastic writer, and I hope you continue to use your loss as a positive force rather than one that brings you down.
best.
(i have some wonderful books to recommend if you’re ever interested)
