Shutting Off the Alarm

Happy Humpday!

I feel better today than I did yesterday because I mentally knew I wasn’t going to attempt to get up at the crack of dawn (didn’t get home until midnight again last night…..) to work out. Because of that, I slept in until 7:30! I’m so weird…I never set my alarm clock…if there’s something I need to get up early for, I automatically just get up—usually 10 minutes before I need to. So, I told myself I didn’t need to get up for anything this morning and, lo and behold, I slept in 30 minutes longer. Super!

Last night was just looong hours working on the dang chocolate box (can’t you tell how much I love it?!) for tonight. I actually got the box done and just need to work on the decorations tonight before it is due at 10:00. I wanted to save pictures for the final product so you guys will have to see in the morning on how it came out!

This morning I woke up and made banana oatmeal with egg whites for breakfast. I used 1/2 cup multigrain cereal cooked in 1 cup soymilk with 1 spoonful almond butter and half a banana. I had two hard boiled egg whites with salt and pepper on the side.

Good, but not AS GOOD as my creamy overnight oats!!!!

For lunch, I packed turkey wrap with yogurt, veggies and a peach. The brand of my tortillas is very random—it is just called “Wrap Itz” and this kind is the 100% stone ground whole wheat one. I really like them and they keep awhile in the fridge. In my wrap I used organic turkey breast, 1 light laughing cow cheese, spinach, honey mustard and jalepinos!

And snackies: an apple for this morning and a pure protein bar for a snack later! I actually really like the chocolate peanut butter flavor and found a box of six for like $5 at Target. I compared the ingredients to my old favorite bar, Chocolate Peanut Butter Zone Perfect, and these are actually more natural and contain NO high fructose corn syrup like the zone perfect bars! I used to eat a zone perfectΒ  bar every day of my life so this seems like a huge step up!

I can’t wait to see your finished product as well. I LOVE chocolate making and have been dabbling in it at home. What kind of molds do you use? I took a dessert plating class a few months back (just a recreational thing) and was introduced to pastrychef.com and am now obsessed with all of their chocolate molds. I bought one of their chocoflex molds and a belgian chocolate mold for bars and am so excited to try them out.

You’re blog is SO helpful! As someone who is recovering from an eating disorder, I often have to eat when I’m not hungry. It is nice to see that “normal” people do that too in order to keep their bodies fueled and energized. πŸ™‚

Also, do you prefer the PB pure protein to the smores flavor? I’ve only tried the latter.

    Runnershigh and arielle,

Yes! I loooove anything with chocolate peanut butter and these are pretty darn good. Actually, I feel like I’m eating junk food because it tastes just like snickers—really no proteiny chalk taste at all! I have this crazy sweet tooth and anything that tastes like candy I go for…

Hey Jenna, just wanted to say thanks for checking on that Tortilla brand for me. They look good, I think I’ll pick them up this weekend. You should try Toufayan tortillas also, they hold my massive veggie wraps and burritos that I always overpack really really well.

    Kelly,

Hmm I’m not sure about the molds. They are just plastic and from my french chef so I assume they are from France. We don’t use molds to make the truffles though—we just pipe out the ganache, cool it, then roll it in tempered chocolate.

I’m the same way with my weirdo internal alarm clock, but it’s kind of nice.

Making those fancy little chocolates seems difficult. How are they compared to making cookies or cakes?

    Hey Jenna,
Great looking wrap!! Question: what brand turkey do you eat? Is it boars head? I like that your turkey is organic!!!

I also like the oatmeal! I must try your overnight oats, tomorrow perhaps!!! I always come home starving from my runs so that sounds perfect for me!!!

I have a question for anyone, really…how do you make the overnight oats? I keep trying to make it for breakfast, but it never tastes that good. Any suggestions?

At night, I mix 1/2 cup oats with 1/2 cup water and a little salt in a cereal bowl. Set in fridge overnight.

In morning, I pull it out, add a spoonful of almond butter, a greek yogurt, half a sliced banana and cinnamon and eat. It’s divine! I use old fashioned oats. this WILL NOT WORK with “quick oats”.

I had a daily zone bar a couple summers ago as well (caramel cluster). I was so sad when I saw they had HFCS. That crap is everywhere!
