Behind The Butter

Splurge Alert!!!!!!!!

MAJOR SPLURGE ALERT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So, I’m posting this after class tonight just to make sure you all know that just because I have a healthy relationship with food and am pretty healthy for the most part….I AM BY NO MEANS PERFECT! Tonight at class, while my bread was proofing (I got an A by the way on my practical!) I ate my kashi cookie because I was getting pretty hungry for a snack around 8:00. But then…… I learned that the patisserie class across the hall was having their final showing of the pastries that they made for all their family and friends. Students were welcome too and let me tell you–this stuff was gorgeous. It looked just like France; I can’t wait til that class!! Everything was tiny! Petit lemon tarts, raspberry tarts, chocolate truffles, macaroons, tiny slices of perfect Opera cake. I only wish I had my camera but I forgot it at home! I just couldn’t resist…I had a tiny lemon tart (about the size of a quarter), a chocolate truffle and picked at a bunch of other things as well as eating all the frosting off the tiny slice of Opera cake as soon as I got home. They were giving out tins for us to fill and take home so, naturally, I filled an entire tin with macaroons and chocolate truffles. My stomach hurts a bit now from all the sugar and I’m feeling a little bloated, but oh my! was it ever worth it. I’m splurged out. Night.

Yep, I ate one of those chocolate truffles (creamy chocolate hazelnut in the center!) plus the frosting from that cake. And a lemon tart not shown. And a kashi cookie. Meh.

Oh, good, I’m glad that the splurge was worth it! I’m guessing culinary students make pretty good desserts… I can’t wait for you to take that class either, so you can share pictures of some gorgeous sweets! 🙂

    Awesome challah loaf, mmm mmm.

Wow they look gorgeous! Definitely worth it! I was actually feeling a little guilty (ok a lot guilty) for a splurge I had tonight and your post made me feel a little better. I gave up chocolate (because I eat WAY too much of it) and well tonight I bought a bag of chocolate chips intended for a baking project for a friend and well, I ate almost half the bag of chocolate chips! I wish I didn’t but I figure I will start right back tomorrow with a good long run and try not to finish the rest of the bag!
Great job on your practical, that challah looks amazing.

See this is why we love your blog Jenna! THIS is a healthy relationship with food. Normal eating is having splurges like this. You don’t feel guilty and shouldn’t. You eat great most of the time so splurges like this are just another day in the normal/healthy eating realm. Have a super Saturday!

I just want to tell you that I am so proud that you are so young and such a positive role model for a lot of others out there! You have such a healthy relationship with food and it is good to hear that you are showing others out there that they don’t have to be so perfect and never splurge!

As others have said, love your blog precisely for this reason! I hate to think people eat “perfect” all the time — I think it’s really them restricting themselves and not allowing themselves to have a normal relationship with food. There’s nothing wrong with a few indulgences here and there! It’s healthy, normal, and looks delicious 🙂

Oh, and congrats on the A!!!
