August 26, 2010 at 1:22 pmI think it would have to be my grandma’s 7-up cake recipe. It’s like a pound cake, but baked in a bundt pan and with a slight lemon flavor from the 7up and lemon extract. It’s FULL of butter and has the most amazing thick and flaky crust ever. I need to stop talking about it…….hehe. I’m off to the store to buy shortening so I can make your peach pie!!!

August 26, 2010 at 1:41 pmA) I’d like to be best friends with you. I realize that’s both creepy and mildly insulting to my real-live best friend, but honesty is part of a healthy life, right? Right.
B) Favorite baked good? Thick, moist, impossibly huge dark chocolatey brownies with chocolate chips and absolutely NO nuts. Nuts in brownies are an abomination, as far as I’m concerned.

fave baked good of all time is definitely the “hedgehog” cookies my mom used to make when we were little. She made dense, dark chocolatey ball-shaped cookies, then rolled them in big sugar crystals (about the size of sea salt). AMAZING, both in chilled dough form and baked 😉

August 26, 2010 at 1:41 pmMy favorite would have to be my homemade rum balls (though they are not *technically* baked) 🙂 I discovered some magic recipe for them circa age 14 and have since then NEVER been able to find it again. However, it is, I believe, written on a napkin and stashed in a folder somewhere in my parents’ house, and nearly 10 years later now I still end up calling my mom to read the recipe to me! I should’ve memorized it by now, but also nearly 10 years later, I haven’t- I only remember it involves nilla wafers pounded to dust with a hammer, cocoa powder, and always more rum than what the napkin actually says.
PS: what a good idea! I think there should be some sort of baking Craigslist where people who get the sudden, momentary urge to bake 3 dozen maple butterscotch brownies can post and find an outlet for their baking whimsies so that they may be pursued.

August 26, 2010 at 1:42 pmMy absolute favourite baked item would have to be my grandmother’s cinnamon rolls. I especially love when the brown sugar that she puts in them oozes out of the swirled part and I can bite into it and it crumbles and melts in my mouth.

August 26, 2010 at 1:44 pmI have two favorites. My Mom’s Orange Pecan Cookies with yummy orange flavored icing. (fresh squeezed orange juice and orange zest) and my Grandma’s bread!
My grandma’s bread fresh from the oven with creamy butter on top. I dream of her bread and that lovely yeasty scent. We would fight over who would get the end pieces and the bread would be gone before it had a chance to cool because we all loved it so much.

August 26, 2010 at 1:44 pmMy personal favorite is a random filled cookie that my friend’s mom used to make every year at Christmas. I have tried for many years to recreate it, but to no avail.
It’s somewhat of a cookie, but more of a jelly roll. Sugar cookie dough on the outside, fill with fudge, shape into a roll, bake, cut into cookie “slices” after the roll is cool. Can’t figure it out.
I want your cookies for sure (that sounds interesting), but do you want to be a dear and conquer this recipe for me, since you’re an expert and I’m not? =) I would be forever grateful.

August 26, 2010 at 1:48 pmNot gonna lie. Chocolate chip cookies. While I’ll get a hankering for pumpkin spiced stuff during fall/winter and zuchini bread/lemon cakes during the summer…chocolate chip cookies are the steady year-round dessert-love of my life.
Michelle
August 26, 2010 at 1:48 pmI love chocolate chip cookies… you can’t mess with an old favorite! I love half moon cookies too … white cookie with frosting that is half white/vanilla, half chocolate frosting. Ah the choices!

August 26, 2010 at 1:50 pmBetween my sister and me, we have baked a crazy myriad of recipes. But sometimes the favorite is often the simplest. Our’s is a Choco Chip recipe that we’ve (appropriately) nicknamed the Miracle Cookies. They’re insane. I rarely bake them because I eat them all. And then my husband feels left out.
Lizzy @ LBBakes
August 26, 2010 at 1:50 pmOh gosh, how do I narrow it down?! My mom’s pumpkin pie, that’s how. 🙂 Nothing comforts me more!

August 26, 2010 at 1:51 pmMy absolute favorite baked good of all time would have to be my mom’s chocolate chip pie. She made it every Thanksgiving when I was little. I haven’t had it in YEARS but can still taste it. Yum! 🙂

August 26, 2010 at 1:51 pmGirl, you kill me.

August 26, 2010 at 1:57 pmIrish. Carbomb. Cupcakes.
That’s right, you heard me.
Appropriately named after the drink, this delicious treat has booze in it. The batter has Guinness, the ganache filling has whiskey in it and the buttercream frosting has Irish cream in it. Thank god they take a while to make (especially if you take pride in your decorating skills) so I only get to enjoy them on special occasions. I would even be willing to give up my mother-in-law’s amazingly delicious applesauce cake if I had to choose between the two.
Bliss
August 26, 2010 at 1:57 pmI love, love, love chocolate chip cookies and have absolutely no self control – most get eaten as dough if I try to bake them. I did make the miraval granola last night (does that count as baking? There’s an oven involved, so that counts, right?) and it was pretty darn scrumptious today in my yogurt. Thanks for that recipe! I can’t wait to try it as muesli!

August 26, 2010 at 2:02 pmEvery Christmas, my mom would make these bars she called “layer cookies.” They had a graham cracker base, pecans, chocolate and butterscotch chips, and toasted coconut on top. They are still the best baked good I’ve ever had…although your cookies could be even better!
Theresa

August 26, 2010 at 2:08 pmCaramel roll pull-aparts. My grandma cuts up a bunch of premade dough into random shapes, then dips them in caramel and coats them with a sugary glaze in a rectangle pan. Waking up to these baking is a dream come true. Paired with coffee and some fruit, it’s truly the breakfast of champions.

Jess @ MTL Veggie
August 26, 2010 at 2:12 pmMy grandmother was an amazing baker. Every Christmas, when I was little, I would spend the day at her house where we would bake tons and tons of sugar cookies. Well, she would bake them. I would decorate them. It was a pretty good system. Now, I’m in charge of baking them for my family at Christmas time… just like Grandma used to make! 🙂
Kristin
August 26, 2010 at 2:12 pmmy absolute favorite is chocolate cake. chocolate cake with chocolate icing, chocolate cake with vanilla icing, chocolate cake with chocolate piled on top of chocolate on top of the chocolate icing… you get the idea 😉
Julie
August 26, 2010 at 2:12 pmI absolutely love oatmeal chocolate chip cookies- specifically, my mom’s recipe! When I was growing up she would need to duct tape the lid of the container closed before she froze them if she wanted to save any.

August 26, 2010 at 2:20 pmGaah, hard call. I think my favorite would have to be the vanilla cupcakes with (vegan) buttercream frosting (trust me, it’s good) that my husband makes for my birthday every year.
This year I ate one of them on a mountaintop. It made it taste even better.

August 26, 2010 at 2:20 pmMy favorite baked good ever german chocolate cake that we bake only once a year for my dad on his birthday! Its so special, my grandmother always made it and it takes a lot of prep time, but soooo worth it!

August 26, 2010 at 2:22 pmMy favorite baked good of all time would be oatmeal butterscotch cookies. When I was younger, my mom and dad would make them and put them in the freezer, from which my brothers and I would grab them. My mom liked to undercook the cookies juuust enough so that they tasted A-MAZING from the freezer. Now, I make them for my boyfriend, but he requests that I give away nearly the whole batch so that he doesn’t eat them all. Baking them reminds me of my childhood. I stick them in the freezer too.

August 26, 2010 at 2:26 pmThis is a hard one… but I’m going birthday cake. Not just any cake – SHAPE cake. My mom always made us birthday shape cakes… I’ve had a whale, a hamburger (it was layer after layer of different color frosted cake), and even a 3D bird house!

August 26, 2010 at 2:26 pmSeriously…nothing better than real tiramisu…like the kind made with the lady fingers and mascarpone and espresso and chocolate all put on separately for each order…none of those perfect square cake pieces…it should be messy and delightfully decadent.

August 26, 2010 at 2:34 pmhomemade sugar cookies from the “Southern Living 1984” cookbook. My mom & I made those every year for Christmas when I was a kid. August 26, 2010 at 2:40 pmIt’s difficult to pick just ONE baked good. There once was a guy, whom I knew from my music scene, who made the most oatmeal chocolate-chip cookies. Some might think it to be simple, which it was, yet it was so complex. THe texture was perfect, there was a richy buttery undertone, the perfect amount of chocolate and a nice salty element to round it out.

August 26, 2010 at 4:13 pmMy all time favorite thing to ever emerge from the oven is my mom’s fresh blackberry cobbler. She strolls into the backyard and picks big black jewels off of the brambles; her fingertips and the bowl stained my favorite color of purple before too long. The flakey/tender/crispy/creamy dollops of biscuit dough that she spoons on top are only slightly sweetened and bakes to a golden brown. She’s heavy handed with the cinnamon – her Lebanese heritage bursts through the sweet and spicy berry mixture. Fresh and creamy vanilla ice cream makes the perfect accompaniment. <3

August 26, 2010 at 5:05 pmMmmm, those cookies are looking yummy!
My favorite baked good is one my mom makes around Christmas…Buckeyes! Chocolate-covered peanut butter balls, much better than the ones factory made by Harry London or whoever.
She also makes these peanut butter rice krispie-type treats with a layer of hardened chocolate on top. The PB makes it pretty dense, so it’s not fluffy like regular rice krispies, which makes it oh so much better!
I see a trend here…peanut butter and chocolate!

August 26, 2010 at 5:05 pmMy absolute favorite baked good has to be the pound cake from a local farm and bakery. Apparently I loved it as a toddler (I would nibble on a piece for hours and reduce it to crumbs), and still do!

August 26, 2010 at 6:03 pmMy favorite baked goods are the iced sugar cookies with rainbow sprinkles from Litton’s Restaurant in Knoxville, TN. I’m not sure what kind of sprinkles they use, but I am pretty sure that they are magical and make all the difference. These cookies taste like a happy childhood.

August 26, 2010 at 6:18 pmEarlier this year I went to this small lunch place in La Jolla that had the most delicious, decadent brownies. I wouldn’t even describe myself as a brownie girl (I’m more partial to cookie and cake varieties), but this particular brownie converted me. It was incredibly fudgy, was topped with a ton of pecans smothered in melted caramel and sea salt. The sea salt was the game winner.

I’m sure there’s a proper name for it, but I don’t know what it is…all I know is it contains anise seed (ground with a mortar and pestle) and she twists the loaves before baking them. August 26, 2010 at 9:56 pmMy favorite is the simplest of them all, chocolate chip cookie. Maybe it’s the fond memories of cooking with my grandmother and cousin in the early mornings and eating raw cookie dough without any fear(from raw eggs) or guilt whatsoever.

August 26, 2010 at 10:00 pmOh man. That’s a toss up. For general purposes…if there is a cookie within 20 feet of me that contains a chocolate chip…I’m having one…or two…or if I’m having a really bad day…maybe three. For special occasions I ADORE apricot nut cups. My mom got the recipe off of Solo apricot filling label in like 1994. Ever since then, they’ve been a Christmas tradition at my house. I also sometimes sneak them in at other times of the year if I want something festive.

As a kid I was always so impressed with the swirled center. It’s as yummy as it is pretty…so good with coffee. Dessert for breakfast is such a treat 🙂

August 27, 2010 at 11:12 amIt is an absolute tie between an apple fritter and a cinnamon roll with icing! Both such simple desserts for my mature palate, but, in the end, it all goes back to being a kid doesn’t it 🙂

August 27, 2010 at 11:20 amPumpkin bread! I absolutely love fall and I just defrosted a loaf I made last year. It’s almost painful to eat to eat it because the temperatures are definitely still in the 90s!

August 27, 2010 at 12:29 pmLet it be known…I love ALL baked goods. If I had to single out a favorite, I would have to say really well done cupcakes. The kind that are moist and cake like with icing that you know is going straight to your thighs but you don’t care because it tastes so good. Yep, that is definitely my favorite baked good!

August 27, 2010 at 12:29 pmMy mom makes the most delicious bran muffins with dates — the not-so-healthy ingredient that makes them so moist and perfect is buttermilk! I’m loving these cookie giveaways!

August 27, 2010 at 12:59 pmOh all time?? Is that even fair to make me choose? Oh well, I’ll go with dense, moist chocolate cake (3 layers?) with rich chocolate frosting.

August 27, 2010 at 1:05 pmWell, your cookies could replace my #1 once I (hopefully) eat them, but as it stands they’re the Italian wedding cookies (you know, the ones with layers … red, preserves, white, preserves, green, preserves, chocolate ) my mom and I make every Christmas. They take two days. But I think that’s why they’re so delicious.

August 27, 2010 at 1:49 pmCOOKIE CAKE!! You know, that thick thick layer of chocolate chip cookie and giant chips, with minimalistic application of icing. I got this for my b-day countless times, and would force the icing-ed pieces on others. And BROWNIES!!! I also adore coffee cake (they served it to us all the time when I was a wee one in day care…without coffee though). Cinnamon rolls are great too, as well as some chocolate cupcakes covered with almond buttercream and dark chocolate almonds my bestie made me one time.
It’s so hard to pick one!

August 27, 2010 at 6:18 pmSo hard to pick just one. Any kind of cookie warm from the oven but especially chocolate chip, frosted sugar and snickerdoodles. Oh and oatmeal raisin and peanut butter. I also love peanut butter swirl brownies, pound cake, birthday cake and carrot cake.
I have been obsessing over your cookies – you had me a browned butter…but can’t bring myself to make them. I don’t have the willpower to share.
