Tired Eyes

My eyes were glued shut this morning. They still are. I don’t know why though—I got to bed at 11:30 and got my usual amount of sleep so technically I shouldn’t be so tired. The suns not out though and maybe that has something to do with it. I literally had to pry myself out of bed to go to the gym. Now its not that I “force” myself to go to the gym in a negative obsessive sense—but I didn’t go yesterday and working out makes me feel better all day long and I knew that getting there would be tough but I would feel better after I did it. So I did. I did about 25 minutes of strength circuit training starting with a few minutes on the treadmill to warm up then did the leg press, calves, 21s, tricep dips, shoulder raises, abs and something else I can’t remember right now. It was a pretty light workout—I didn’t feel like I was working too hard but I guess that’s a good thing when you feel tired anyways. It will be very very nice to have summer break starting next Friday. I can finally catch up on my sleep!!!

When I got home from the gym I had a bowl of Ezekiel Cinnamon Raisin cereal. I think I would have to say this is my favorite cereal. Too bad its so darn expensive. The only reason I could get this this past week was because I was at the health food store with my mom and she conveniently asked me “if I needed anything”. 😉 I’ll have to make this box last! I had a bowl with blackberries and banana with soymilk and it was very yummy and satisfying.

And you know whats for lunch!!!!!!!

The other half of my pizza for last night….yum, yum, yum! I’m also bringing a peach and some pretzel sticks for later. I packed a lighter snack today because I’m eating dinner as soon as I get home around 4:30 so I can get to school by 5 and practice my piping and cake decorating. I asked my chef if I could have some extra icing and come in early and work on piping so I could get ready for my interview in a few weeks. Who knows, they might have me pipe something right then and there!

I finished my chocolate modeling cake last night but didn’t take a picture because the final glossy spray wasn’t on  yet. Tonight we are spraying and finishing off the cakes and I will take a picture then! I’m pretty happy with the final outcome though. It definitely worked my arm muscles rolling out all that chocolate last night to cover the cake with. Seriously. I think I’m sore today! I rolled and rolled for about 45 minutes and actually broke a sweat. Who says cake decorators have it easy?!

    hey Jenna,

    Cute pix from last night!

You may have said this, but what kind of program did you do in France? You seem really interested in non-cooking related reading/writing … did you have any writing interests before the culinary school one?

Just curious – as a fellow lover of books/writing/food but stuck at a mind-numbing desk job I love learning about other career paths and ideas.

Wishing you luck for the externship – you seem really talented and I know you’ll do great!

Hi Jenna! How much of the cereal do you eat? Do you eat the serving size/more/less? I love your France pictures!! I was a French major in school and those pictures make me want to just pick up and move there right now!!!! Did you visit anywhere else besides Nice and Paris??

Jenna- you’re too cute 🙂 Sometimes, regarding the Ezekial cereal, I find it in the bulk-bins, so maybe you can look for it there and not have to shell out the packaging $! I’m not sure if they carry it in bulk around Tampa/Orlando because I haven’t looked, but I KNOW I’ve seen it in SOME bulk before!!!

Everytime I see that Ezekial cereal I want to buy it but it IS so darn expensive. I think I’ll probably cave and get myself a box soon though, I’m tired of resisting!

That pic is too cute, I think food jobs ARE tough stuff! Those bakers/chefs etc never sit down! Constant movement. Who needs the gym when you can roll dough all day?

Hey Jenna, do you find a half cup of the ezekiel cin. raisin cereal fills you up or do you use a whole cup? also, on light workout days like today, do you still have your half a banana w.pb?

ouu I’ve been sleepy too these past few am. Do you have a trader Joe’s? They may have it in bulk. Or try online.

Hmm, I was going to say you look so professional in your uniform, but I like Arielle’s version better: cute outfit! Anyway, it’s so true that working out in the a.m. improves the entire day and usually only boosts my energy levels– hope that’s what it will do for you today!

Oh, and Sloane, thanks for the tip re: ezekiel in bulk. I bet it’s there in the bulk section of my wonderful supermarket but I always assumed they just had granolas, silly me. Crossing my fingers…

FOOD BLOGS: I would love everyones feedback! I asked a similar questions a few days ago but would love some comments and thoughts for a paper I am writing.

Food blogs seem to be poping up everywhere and I am interested in why you think this is? Why is food becomming such a popular topic?

If you have a blog, why do you write one (for the discussions it ignites or for yourself?)

How do you think food blogs change the way we communicate about food (as opposed to reading cookbooks, food magazines, or discussing it in person)

I’ve posted this on a few blogs but I’d really appreciate your thoughts!

    Rebecca,

I specialized in fiction at school but after I declared that I decided I was more of a poet. I still write and read poems often and find that is the best way for me to express myself. I need to get back into it! I would love to publish a collection someday 😉

    Katie s,

I eat 3/4 cup of the cereal. That amount always fills me up until lunch! No, I was studying in Paris so I stayed there mainly and then when Ryan came over we took the train down to the south of france and stayed in nice for three nights and then went back to Paris. I would love to do more exploring though! My belly loves it there 🙂

    Ashley,

I always have a preworkout snack because I’m one of those people that is STARVING right when they wake up in the morning…See above comment for cereal answer (1/2 cup is never enough!)

Jenna, you said it right, the bakers’ job is not that easy.
The entire gym workout is covered while rolling the dough all the day.

Btw, you’re looking cute in your professional chef dress.
Looking forward for the chocolate cake picture!
