So, in keeping up with the trend of unintentionally extreme long hikes, today Cindy and I ventured out for a little four mile seaside stroll. We plotted out a “moderate” trail that wrapped around the Point Reyes seashore and brought with us our cameras, some snacks and a water. We planned on heading out around one o’clock, after church, and getting back at three.
Somehow that gentle two hour walk turned into a strenuous 10.3 mile hike through forests, streams, rain, mud and fog, but who’s counting?
Typical.

(I coveted Cindy’s ear warmer/headband thingy…it was cold and wet today!)
and then, 10.3 miles later, I ate THIS:

Entire post-marathon hike feast recap to come in the morning—trust me, you don’t want to miss this!

August 9, 2010 at 11:07 amThanks! I got it at a boutique on Haight street in San Francisco this past winter. But I have seen them online. Its super comfy and keeps the wind off my ears. If you search for “knitted headband with flower” on Etsy.com they have similar ones.

August 8, 2010 at 10:19 pmIt seems like you always get in unexpected bouts with nature Jenna. But pasta as your post-hike fuel? A girl after my own heart.

August 9, 2010 at 2:37 amOh my gosh I just got SO nervous for you. In college I did an international work camp in Point Reyes. (I was the only non-international one and sadly, the only one who couldn’t speak at least two languages.) We lived right on the water and can remember how freaky those hikes were, what with all the Beware of Mountain Lion signs. Thank god you’re alive! Better eat something chocolately to celebrate.

August 9, 2010 at 2:42 amWhat beautiful pictures, made me want to be outside instead of waiting to start a late shift at work at 2.30pm! Looking forward to the tale.

August 9, 2010 at 4:37 amwhen i first moved out to colorado i was stoked about going on a new hike…so my friend amy and i (armed only with one granola bar and 2 bottles of water) set out to climb Bear Peak in boulder. we thought it was only going to take 3 hours at most.
8 hours later we were hiking through a private pasture with cows in it because the trail signs had been turned in the wrong direction!!! needless to say we were pretty exhausted 🙂

August 9, 2010 at 4:39 amwhoa it looks so beautiful out there though! I love a good hike but I don’t think I’ve ever taken a 10 mile one!

August 9, 2010 at 4:56 amI love the scenery! It is typical that a short hike turned into a long one! Hope you had a good time!
Tracey @ I'm Not Superhuman
August 9, 2010 at 5:23 amI love that headband! I can’t believe how cold it was. Ear warmers? Long sleeves? Well, 10 miles like that is better than 10 miles in the 100-degree heat we’re getting!
Sarah (Running to Slow Things Down)
August 9, 2010 at 5:43 amI’m loving your new lens and the photos that it takes, girly! You can’t beet a close up picture, sometimes. Gorgeous! 😀

August 9, 2010 at 7:30 amI love Point Reyes! My husband and I vacationed there last August and were in complete amazement of the entire seashore. I loved seeing your photos – they brought back memories of our cold, windy, foggy but beautiful hikes! Thanks for sharing!

August 9, 2010 at 8:10 amThat happened to my friend and I once. We were actually on a trail and walked what we thought was a moderate distance. Well, we ran part of the way one way and then walked the entire way back. It seemed to take forever to finally get back to my house! Definitely a longer path than we anticipated. At least you had good company (as did I)!
Wonderful pictures 😀
Amelia
August 9, 2010 at 8:11 amI really enjoy your photos and reading about your adventures. The scenery is just gorgeous! I hope that our adventures in Colorado will be just as beautiful…minus the ocean, of course.

August 9, 2010 at 9:55 amWhat a beautiful hike!! Forest and beach! My favorite.
One time we did what we thought would be a short hike along the river in Bend. We took a wrong turn where we THOUGHT we had left the car. We ended up having to walk like 5 extra miles across the resort to get back to the car. LOL Oh well, it was fun!
Brittney
August 9, 2010 at 10:38 amI have those same hiking shoes 🙂 LOVE em!

August 9, 2010 at 10:53 amI’m sure I’m not the only reader who knits…Cindy’s headband is totally this pattern from ravlery : Flower Headband Earwarmer by Elisa McLaughlin. Super cute, I may just have to make it!
