Hello again!
SO glad I made it to the gym today, even though I know my legs will be sore tomorrow. I stayed about half an hour and got a great lower body workout in.
My boo-tay busting workout consisted of:
10 minutes on the stairmaster, level 9
3 sets of calf raises, 70 lbs, 25 reps
2 sets of hip abductor, 70 lbs, 15 reps
2 sets of hip adductor, 70 lbs, 15 reps
2 sets of hamstring curls, 50 lbs, 15 reps
3 sets of lunges on bosu ball holding two 10 lb dumbells, 3 sets per leg, 10 reps each set (these KILLED!!!!)
= about a 30 minute workout. Not too shabby!
When I got home, it was already getting dark and I was already getting hungry! It had started to rain and I was craving something warm so I fixed some soup for dinner using this:
I used the soup as a base and added protein to make a more balanced meal. Tonight, I added two slabs of leftover baked tofu from Monday night (half a package of tofu). I diced the tofu up in small dice and added to the soup before heating. The tofu was chewy and dense and really made the soup very satisfying and filling! I had a small plate of kashis on the side:
There was so much soup in my bowl we almost had an overflow. Here’s a spoonful with tofu!
I also had a square of my organic dark chocolate bar:
I think I enjoyed my little square all the more because I didn’t mindlessly “graze” on any chocolate chips at work today! Not even one! It’s SO HARD not to eat “little bites” of everything I make, but little bites add up! Every time I reach to grab chocolate chips or take a swipe off the chocolate mousse spoon, I envision my mom slapping my hand away. Haha π
About an hour later I had my “dessert”—-a warm chocolate vitamuffin crumbled on top of 1/2 cup stoneyfield farm organic plain yogurt:
It was kind of like cookies and cream…made healthy! I’m currently sipping on some chamomile tea as well.
I have some work to do tonight as well as my bible study. The next three days at work are absolutely going to be i-n-s-a-n-e so I’m going to try to go to bed early tonight and be well rested for tomorrow…..I think I might also go to another 6 pm spin class tomorrow!!!
Goodnight all! =)

November 12, 2008 at 7:25 pmI wonder what would happen if you mixed the vitamuffin in the yogurt and put it in the freezer. Maybe it would taste even MORE like cookies n cream?

November 12, 2008 at 7:40 pmI love me a good Vitamuffin!
Good job staying away from the chocolate chips! It seriously does take a lot of self-control to cook without munching. π

November 12, 2008 at 7:41 pmI love that brand of soups! They are so delicious plain, and perfect for add-ins like you did tonight. π
Thanks for posting that you did a great workout in such a short period of time! I often tell myself that need to devote like an hour to each session, and that’s simply not the case.

November 12, 2008 at 10:25 pmI wouldn’t have even thought of adding tofu with some sort of squash soup!!! What an interesting idea- it does take on the flavor of everything… hmm….

November 12, 2008 at 10:35 pmHey Jenna! Quick question. What type of yoga did you practice when you were in “your best shape?” I was looking at bikram and it doesn’t seem to involve any poses that work anything beyond your lower body. The heat almost seems dangerously high?
Jennifer
November 12, 2008 at 10:36 pmThat butternut soup is one of my go-to fav’s!!!! so yummy!! π
I love the idea of a crumbled muffin on yogurt!

November 13, 2008 at 6:47 amI was wondering if anyone could tell me what Tofu tastes like? I’m on a pretty tight budget… but have been wanting to try it… I just hate levying out part of my budget towards something and then hating it. π Thanks!

November 13, 2008 at 8:39 amJenna,
Have you tried making any more greek yogurt? I’m thinking of trying some this weekend and just wondering how it went when you tried to use a larger protion.
I hope this week goes well for you with making your gingerbread house!
Tina
November 13, 2008 at 10:14 amI bought the exact same soup this weekend! Can’t wait to try it! π

November 13, 2008 at 11:55 amHey, I have some unsolicited advice, sorry if it’s annoying. Don’t waste your time with the abductor and adductor leg machines (I’m guessing you mean the ones where you sit and squeeze in or press out. If not you can just ignore this). They work a really small area of your leg. Do lunges instead.
You give me the best ideas for baked tofu. I’m not a vegetarian, but now that I like tofu I want to start using it more because it’s so versatile and cheap.
Teddy
November 13, 2008 at 12:00 pmFried tofu in soup is FANTASTIC… i’ve never done the baked tofu before. What can I say? I’m a fried girl. I mean hey, I eat no meat so I need delish fat somewhere!

November 13, 2008 at 12:56 pmI find that if I keep my mouth “minty”, I don’t try to sneak tastes of what I’m baking. I know you can’t keep gum or mints in your mouth while in the kitchen, but munching an altoid on your breaks or Listerine strips might help? I know it works for me!
Gahhh! I leave for Utah on Saturday! I’m freaking out!

November 13, 2008 at 2:26 pmi remember reading earlier that you made your own greek yogurt–i love doing that! it’s a shame that it basically cuts the yogurt amount in half, but the creaminess makes it completely worth it. i’m not sure what type of yogurt you usually buy (low-fat, non-fat, etc), but i just thought i’d let you know that i’ve never had any luck with making nonfat greek yogurt. the nonfat yogurt doesn’t strain very well; very little liquid separates. just a heads up!

November 13, 2008 at 2:42 pmNot too shabby at all. That sounds like a fun workout. In fact Iβm going to work on my legs tonight. I havenβt burned out that muscle group for a while. Well, other than crazy hills on the bike.

November 13, 2008 at 4:00 pmYum to the yogurt & vitamuffin! I also like the idea of putting the baked tofu into the soup, I’ve gotta try that. Good luck in your upcoming busy-ness… channel some of that tension into your spinning tomorrow morning! π

November 14, 2008 at 6:06 amAmy,
When I was in college I participated in the “yoga challenge” for 3 months where we practiced yoga 6 days a week. I did a combo of bikram and power. I think my favorite type will always be power!
AshleyH,
