Yesterday, I ate this hot dog.
I don’t think I’ve eaten a hot dog in approximately nine years and never actually went so far as to order one out at a restaurant…but I’m glad I did.
Let me tell you a little bit about this hot dog.
First, it was a 50/50 beef pork dog. And, it was made in house. The dog was topped with tomato chow chow, ketchup and mustard and then folded ever so gently in a soft, crusty white roll.
I also drank this sangria. Even though it was Sunday and even though we had just come from church.
It made me feel like a rebel, and I liked it.

January 3, 2011 at 2:04 pmI love a good hot dog during the Summer with baked beans. Applegate Farms makes a great hot dog called “The Great Organic Beef Dog”, but I bet it’s not as good as one that’s housemade.

January 3, 2011 at 2:04 pmI actually love a good hot dog (no surprise there) in the summertime. Now I’m craving one in the winter!

January 3, 2011 at 2:07 pmYou won’t be a true rebel until you drink BEFORE church. At 9 in the morning. You know, like the men in Ireland in Angela’s Ashes. I’m not sure why the drunk Irishmen are my heroes, but they are.
(okay only a little bit).
In other news, that plate looks decadent. Isn’t it just amazing how a pile of fruit can look so perfect?

January 3, 2011 at 2:09 pmI have been loving hot dogs since I saw a special on PBS last July 4th. That one looks especially awesome 🙂

January 3, 2011 at 2:12 pmThere is a restaurant in New York that ONLY SELLS HOTDOGS! It is amazingly delicious! I had one with avacadoes and sour cream on it? Sounds crazy, I was scared, but I loved it. http://www.crifdogs.com

January 3, 2011 at 2:13 pmThere’s not much better than a grilled hot dog. Especially when they’re not scary and pumped with chemicals. 😉 Even though I’ve been known to enjoy those too.

January 3, 2011 at 2:15 pmHa ha…”I felt like a rebel and I liked it.” I like that too.

January 3, 2011 at 2:25 pmI haven’t eaten a hot dog in many MANY years, but I have fond memories of hot dogs really toasted until there’s black, charred bits on the outside. Covered with onions, relish, and mustard, it was a favorite at one time.

January 3, 2011 at 2:26 pmOh, that sounds amazing! I don’t think I’ve ever seen a hot dog on a menu…but if I did see one, and it was made in house – I’d order it in a heartbeat!

January 3, 2011 at 2:33 pmI don’t know what tomato chow chow is. But I like it. Almost as much as I like sangria.

January 3, 2011 at 2:43 pmThe other day I was standing in the freezer section of Central Market drooling over some bison hot dogs. I wanted them so badly, but at $7 for a package of 8, my pocketbook, which is currently destined to empty itself at the mercy of my university, begged me to put them back.
This post makes me regret that decision.

January 3, 2011 at 3:39 pmThat looks so good! I rarely eat hot dogs but I always love the smell of them! Here in England, everyone drinks after church – the meeting place afterwards is the pub. 🙂 Happy new year, Jenna!

January 3, 2011 at 4:54 pmI was about to pull a “Jenna, a hot dog!? Foodie betrayal!”
But after reading about it, I am okay with it. Well, as okay with it as a vegetarian can be 🙂
But hey, I don’t judge!

January 4, 2011 at 10:08 pmOne of the new food carts in my home town is a gourmet hot dog stand. It is amazing. They have regular (organic, ethically grown, locally sourced) angus beef hot dogs, sausages, bison dogs, all with these amazing sauces (jams, relishes, crazy ketchups). Tofu dogs are also available! Plus you can either get a regular bun or they take a roll and spike it and put the hot dog in there. Seriously, I am depressed that they are on winter hours right now and I can’t have one tomorrow. If you ever come to the east coast…oh my lord, to DIE for.
(and they are in the shed of a local french bakery where you can sit and eat and then your mom will buy you a chocolate pastry…yummmmm)
