A Better Bagel

Good morning! How nice is it that its already Tuesday?

Ryan and I stayed up quite late to finish Dances with Wolves. Forgot how long of a movie it is. An oldie but a goodie no doubt! And I just had to share with you a picture of the “treat” I made Ryan.

Behold the goodness:

img_0035

Drool! It was a warm WF chocolate chip cookie with vanilla bean coconut milk ice cream and Hershey’s extra dark chocolate sauce on top. Can you believe this dessert was vegan?! I think not. Well Ryan didn’t at least! He inhaled it 🙂

Now onto this morning. I was SO psyched to try out my new bagels

img_0036

Ingredients in the bagels include: Filtered water, organic wheat flour, organic vital wheat gluten, organic whole wheat flour, hempseed flour, organic flax meal, organic poppy seeds, dates, organic oat fiber, organic pumpkin seeds, organic millet, contains less than 2% of the following: hemp seeds, organic cracked wheat, organic sprouted Kamut® berries, organic sprouted spelt berries (wheat), organic sunflower seeds, sea salt, organic sprouted barley, organic sesame seeds, organic sprouted amaranth berries, organic sprouted quinoa.

And each bagel boasts 19 grams of protein and 13 grams of fiber. Holy moly!! I couldn’t even believe it! Each bagel is 280 calories and has 8 grams of fat.

I loved how these were pre-cut and that made it easy to just pop one in the toaster this morning! I spread mine with about a tbsp of raw almond butter, a smear of raspberry preserves and topped it with half a sliced naner—

Very interesting! These really did not taste like a “normal” bagel but were good all the same. They were very chewy and nutty and tasted delicious with almond butter. These would also make a great sandwich because they were quite savory. With all the protein and fiber in this breakfast I should be set for awhile! 😉

This morning I’m going to walk the mile to my yoga studio for Tuesday’s hot yoga flow class. Its finally nice enough that I can walk!

See you for lunch!

Hi Jenna, just curious but after reading your guest blog on french women and their eats and how you or they never counted calories, do you now count calories again? thanks. Am trying intuitive eating and i hope it works for me…

      Lena,

Nope, I don’t count calories. Never have and never will. I’m a big proponent because I feel like it leads to obsession and in some cases, disordered eating. But that’s just a personal thought of mine; I know counting calories works very well for some people! I just eat when I’m hungry and stop when I’m full!

yummy treat for the bf…looks delish!

Just curious..I read somewhere ..I think the Hungry Yogini’s blog that there is really no such thing as raw almond butter?

“She told me that there is actually no such thing as a truly raw almond here in the US thanks to a pasteurization law that was passed not too long ago. They ruled that all almonds must be pasteurized for safety purposes because of a few cases of salmonella but companies are still allowed to label it raw. I was quite shocked to find this out!”

Just wondering what your take is on this? Not that I really care..between raw or not raw almond butter lol just curious as to what you think 🙂 thanks!

I think I have told you this before but I am not sure you got it (my computer did something funky when I sent the comment) but my maiden name is Weber!! I know there are tons of Webers out there so it doesn’t really mean anything but I always feel a tiny bit connected to other Webers! Weber is now my middle name so I still sign stuff Jessica Weber Blakewood – I just couldn’t give it up entirely!

A better bagel – you’re not kidding! I have bagels classified under “naughty” in my head, but with those kind of stats I don’t think I’d feel too bad eating a hemp bagel. YUM!

I’m with you on the extremely attractive appeal of the bagel–I love bagels, but struggle to find one that isn’t simply flour sprinkled with a few oats and grains–but I can only imagine how expensive they were. Does anyone know how much they were or if there is a similar product out there nutritionally? (I love Ezekiel bread, if that’s a good reference point.)

    And holy dessert…

    May 27, 2009 at 12:36 pm

I bought the hemp bagels on Monday and tried them yesterday for breakfast. I dont know if I got a bad batch or what but they were GROSS! For some reason they taste like fish. I threw mine out when I got home, which was a bummer because they werent cheap. I guess if I would have piled on the almond butter and other toppings I wouldnt have to taste the bagel, but with just light whipped cream cheese they were disgusting!
