Today was a very pleasant day.
A pleasant day, indeed, for all parties involved.
Anyways. The boyfriend’s good friend from home is visiting so we made the typical rounds: Willow Wood Market for brunch, wine tasting(s), the redwood forest and the coast. Wahoo!
To regress a bit, let me just say that I had a lovely run this morning. Four miles on a new “interesting” trail near my house. The verdicts still out on that one. But getting back to the run…and what I ate after…a lovely recovery protein shakeroo
1 cup almond milk, 1/2 cup frozen berries and 1 scoop chocolate protein powder.
I was running late to brunch so I directed the boy to order me something along the lines of an egg white omelet. Alas, when I arrived this was what I found.
Not egg whites but still pure deliciousness. Soft set scrambled eggies with some type of yummy cheese. Didn’t eat the bread but did eat all my fruit and all his fruit. Cause that’s how I roll.
And now I must tell you the crazy story from today. This is so totally crazy you’ll never believe it. So, we’re at Iron Horse sipping on some bubbly bubbly this afternoon….
And then I feel a slight tap on my shoulder. I turned around and there was my friend, Matt! I haven’t seen Matt since Junior year of college back there in good ol’ South Carolina. Talk about blast from the past—five years and 3,000 miles later and we meet again! I wish someone could have photographed the look on my face….pure shock. Love that. Unfortunately there was no photo. Use your imagination.
Then we saw some big trees and I hugged them.
And sat inside them.
I desperately wanted to crush some acorns into flour and make pancakes, Jean Craighead George style, but there were none so instead I just sat and squatted my land.
We drove by the coast, saw some goats and then picked up barbecue for dinner. I had a small bit with a big salad and some of my baked beans.
I’m so tired and my jaw aches? I don’t know. Hope y’all had a pleasant day as well—see ya tomorrow!

I’m curious about your wrist tattoo – a cross + ___? : )
Oh my gosh, how big is that tree!!?? I’ve never seen one that big! How awesome
The weather looks gorgeous where you are! You must have had a great day. Look how big the trees are!
Wow what a day!!! And so so so crazy about your friend!!!
Did you go to culinary school in Charleston? I live in Spartanburg. SC and I *may* be spending the summer down there and I was thinking of checking out their culinary institute and perhaps going there in the fall, instead of where I had planned on going.
That looks like the perfect day! How wild is it that you ran into your friend from college! What a small world!
Wow – that IS crazy. Small world, right?
Lovely photos of a lovely day.
How could you not eat that bread?! It looks soft and chewy.
Does your friend Matt live there now?
Oh gosh redwoods are beautiful! Definitely one of God’s most magnificent gifts
Ahhh is that beef brisket?!?!? YUM!
aaaaaaaah! My inner hippie-dippie self is drooling over how beautiful those trees are!
The redwoods are amazing! Every time I read your blog it makes me want to live in northern California.
Ha! Encounters like that are always so strange. Last year, I was in New York City on the steps of the Met, and I saw a guy from my MFA program…in Indiana! Random!
Looks like a great day! My dogs totally need bowties now (even the girl).
I LOVE BIG TREES! Looks like you had a fun day! Hope you enjoy the rest of your long weekend!
Looks and sounds like a wonderful day! Was “the boy” in one of those pictures? So funny running into Matt! Things like that happen to my Dad all the time! He seems to run into people everywhere…even miles and miles away!
Can we get that last pic in full size glory? I wanna use it as a wallpaper.
And the shot of the bird amongst the trees too!
The Redwood Forests is the #1 place of all tourist destinations that I would like to see the most. I have wanted to see them for years! I am a little jealous that you live so close to them.
Glad you had a awesome day. Love your blog.
yes a tree hugger=)
it’s always nice to see old friends…:)
great pictures!
Ha, I totally thought of ‘My side of the mountain” when I saw you in that tree…acorn flour pancakes, blackberry (blueberry) jam, and some sort of tea…dandelion? slippery elm? That was one of my favorite books as a kid, as was ‘Kildee House’ http://www.amazon.com/Kildee-House-Newbery-Honor-Roll/dp/0802773885
Anyway. Loved the literary reference and the gorgeous pix! Truly a glorious day..
Maybe I need to move up North. And live in a tree.
Looks like an absolutely fabulous day – it’s always fun to run into people at the most random of places!!
beautiful sun and beautiful blogger.
