Breakfast

Charleston Mornings

Morning!

I’m SO glad we didn’t go out late last night because I love waking up and feeling great in the morning. Makes me wonder how in the world I survived all those weekends in college where I thought it was “normal” to wake up and feel totally out of it, bloated from a few too many cocktails and searching for a bagel sandwich to cure my hangover.

This morning I had the same breakfast as yesterday—-two packets of Kashi Go Lean hot cereal with a banana and a scoop of Mighty Maple pb before we left to go to the Farmer’s Market

I can’t wait to have a Green Monster once I get home…..I’m missing them like crazy! Its weird, since I started having more and more Green Monsters for breakfast, meals like hot oatmeal almost seem too heavy for me and just sit in my tummy like a rock! A few of you have asked if GMs keep me full and the answer is YES.….when I make them with protein powder. They keep me full and energized all morning long. They never used to at first but then when I was more consistent with drinking them my body got more used to them and now having anything else doesn’t make me feel as good. Crazy!

After breakfast we walked for about an hour down by the market and around King Street. Everything was so pretty!

A gorgeous blue sky = perfect beach day!

I had a lovely piece of dark chocolate while we wandered:

And then we made our way to Kudu, an African coffee shop near Christie’s house that I used to frequent in college for some tea.

We are just waiting on Alissa to get here (she’s driving in from Charlotte for the day) and then we are heading out to soak up some rays all day. I’m trying to pack like crazy right now because, get this, I have to be OUT the door tomorrow morning at 6 am! I need to be home by 1:00 because tomorrow is my brother’s graduation day and the school asked my dad if he would accept the diploma for John. My family is going and sitting with the faculty and while I’m sure the service will be beautiful, it is going to be very, very, very difficult. I’m sort of mentally  preparing myself right now for it actually.

We are probably going to grab lunch somewhere near the pier and then come back later this afternoon and have an early dinner.

Also, if you have emailed me in the past two days and I haven’t responded its because, for some reason, my server is down here. I can recieve emails but can’t send them…..I have no idea why and haven’t had time to make the call and fix it because we’ve been so busy. I promise to get back to you asap either tomorrow or Monday; sorry for the inconvenience!

I love farmer’s markets! I hear you about having the green monsters vs. oats, I had oat bran yesterday and it was way too filling, I’m used to GM’s!

Hope you enjoy the rest of your day and I will keep you guys in my prayers tomorrow.

    beautiful.

I had a green smoothie for breakfast this morning w/o protein powder and it kept me full. I think it’s mentally letting go of having to ‘eat’ something. Funny how that happens.

    Have fun and safe travels.

I love farmer’s markets…I’m heading out to one here soon! I totally am with you on waking up and feeling good…even if I just have a couple drinks now, the next morning don’t have my A-game. In college, for some reason I was a champ at recuperating….I would wake up and be able to do anything. Our bodies are definitely not the same in our mid-20’s I guess! 🙂

Don’t you love waking up and not feeling like you got hit by a Tequila truck? I suppose there’s something to be said for maturity 🙂 Anyway, do you just use a normal blender for your GMs or do you have a special smoothie maker? I have neither, but would like to get one to start trying the GMs and would love to know what everyone recommends.

I totally agree on the GMs. Especially now that the weather is warmer, I’m just happier with a big frosty fruity glassful instead of that brick in the belly. I’m also hungrier for lunch and a little peppier, if I do say so myself!

    Enjoy your beautiful day!

Love the Lake Champlain chocolates – every time I am on Church Street I have to stop in & buy something (usually a dark chocolate dipped apricot!). Thanks to you I tried my first Green Monster this morning, it was really good & i am already looking forward to one tomorrow! Have fun today! I know tomorrow will be tough, you are in my thoughts.

I just had my first Green Monster and I feel as if I am already addicted! It’s much more fun to drink spinach rather than eat it!

Jenna, I totally agree with you about the GMs. I never would have thought I’d be so addicted to them, and that they would actually fill me up. I’ve lost my cravings for oatmeal altogether, although that could just be a product of the summer heat here in California! We’ll see if I still crave the GMs when winter rolls around again!

What achievements your brother accomplished and how sweet to know you will all be accepting his diploma with pride even through your grief.I am moved by seeing the elephant he created, the kitty he saved and to now get to hear of his graduating.
Wishing you and your parents and each one of John’s buddies strength and courage tomorrow.
May you feel John’s presence and his own pride in each of you, especially his treasured sister and mom and dad.Blessings.

At my college graduation, a father and younger brother accepted a posthumous aerospace engineering degree for his son who was murdered in March. It was incredibly sad and we gave him a standing ovation. I am sure everyone will show the same respect and acknowledgment for your brother. Your family is in my prayers.

Wow! That farmer’s market looks amazing! Here in Fort Wayne, IN, the downtown started one but not until July. It’s artsy with vendors and music, too…oh and coffee:) Love it! I will say a prayer for you and your family to have some peace at the graduation. I can’t imagine how difficult that will be for you. Hopefully your girls weekend was a big lift to your spirit!

I agree that eating something besides a Green Monster now seems too filling for me in the morning! I actually just made one and added protein powder (EAS myoplex b/c it’s all we had in the house) and I could only drink half of the smoothie. It was delicious that and thanks for the protein suggestion!
