Well we had a perfectly lovely day today, despite the off and on again showers! It honestly felt GOOD though because it was so hot by the pool and neither one of us minded the occasional cool sprinkle.
Until it began to rain rather hard and we took that as a sign for a little break. Ryan made a sandwich and watched Sportcenter and I did a 30 minute core yoga download from yogadownload.com . I always forget how hard this class is—it really works that tummy! Of course after the yoga interlude it was time for a snack. I whipped up some juice first—-
My absolute favorite—green apple, beet, ginger, celery and carrot 🙂 And had another one of Ange’s homemade granola bars straight out of the freezer.
Twas the perfect snack! The sun came back out then and we headed back outside for another hour or so of reading and relaxing.
For our anniversary date night, we ended up choosing BJ’s because it was right next door to the movie theater where we had our gift cards. Here’s the anniversary outfit—
And the anniversary merlot (and man)— 🙂
We were quite hangry when we arrived so we immediately ordered the bruschetta appetizer……definitely not the healthiest option but WOW was it ever amazing!
I don’t know about yall but when there’s a plate full of hot doughy bread in front of me I tend to attack. To ward off eating the entire plate, I portioned two (thick) pieces out on my plate and topped them with a ton of yummy bruschetta topping—-
There are some things in life you should just never say no to.
For my entree, I chose
the garden medley salad topped with blackened salmon with the dressing on the side. It was a very
Fitnessista inspired meal—thanks, Gina! 🙂
WOW, was this ever tasty. The salmon was cooked exactly the way I like it and the seasonings were perfect. My date ordered the pepperoni pizza!
Ryan unfortunately does not like pizza crust and I have ZERO self control when it comes to crust………….
Yep, I almost ate all his crust. I just couldn’t say no! But between the bruschetta & the crust I was too full to even finish my salad, which was a pity since it was amazing. Now, four hours later and I am STILL stuffed, which never happens so I know I must have gone a bit too crazy on the carb front. Do I feel guilty about my choices? Not in the slightest. Ryan and I rarely go out to eat anymore and this was a special occasion, obviously. Plus, to me, living life to the fullest means not passing up hot, chewy pizza crusts and doughy bruschetta once in a full moon. I know I rarely eat like this and one night of carb-heaven isn’t going to do anything! This is the great thing about eating really clean 80% of the time; you have that 20% spot for delicious splurges such as this! Tomorrow we shall be back on the wagon! 😉
Off to sleep off my food hangover. Nighty-night!
ps–movie was HYSTERICAL!!!!!!!!!! At one point I felt tears coming on. I SO needed that kind of laugh!

The salmon looks delish w/ all that seasoning. I tend to go for deep dish pizza but when its regular pie, the boy will usually finish my crust too!

June 21, 2009 at 6:59 amit makes me feel better that you thought the core yoga class is hard haha. i’m very much a yoga beginner, and i thought the 20 minute version was killer – it’s nice to know it’s challenging for seasoned yogis too!
also, bread babies are a must every once in a while. i completely agree that eating clean most of the time means splurges don’t matter. your philosophy is fabulous.

June 21, 2009 at 7:44 amYour anniversary looked so nice! I love your top.
I definitely agree about the 80/20 rule. I went out to dinner with friends last night and we too got bruschetta (it’s dangerous!), which I enjoyed quite liberally. I didn’t feel “bad” about this at all. When you are healthy and active, you can afford every once and awhile to go to town on whatever you like. I also knew that I have a 13 mile run planned for this morning; I clearly needed to carb load 😉
So glad to hear that The Hangover was good! My boyfriend and I are planning to see it this evening.

June 21, 2009 at 7:47 amGlad to hear you liked the movie!!!! SO FUNNY. Your dinner looks amazing, I’ve been on a salmon kick and that salmon looks drool worthy.
I love your insight about living life to the fullest. Honestly if you can’t give into things you love, what is the point. It’s all about enjoying life and loving the people your with and of course the food. You go girl!!!!!!

June 21, 2009 at 9:28 amJenna, your outlook on food is just so inspiring. I love that you give yourself some nights to splurge because really, there is no harm! You eat so intuitively and healthy everyday anyway.
I have GOT to see that movie!

June 21, 2009 at 3:47 pmHey Jenna,
Have you ever tried blending oats into your green monsters? You can’t taste it, and that way you get in your oats without that hot heavy feeling.

June 21, 2009 at 4:27 pmDoes anyone know where I can find Jenna’s recipe for the super charge me cookies? I have searched all over her website, but I can’t find it. I’m sure it is right in front of my face. 🙂 Thanks!

June 22, 2009 at 12:44 pmHi Jenna – you look adorable as usual 🙂 I have a question about your juice – do you peel the beet before you jucie and if so how do you peel it? I am farily new to juicing and to beets, but I got some beets from our local farmers market this weekend for the purpose of juicing and and not sure how to proceed. Thanks so much.
