Honor Thy Self

Morning and Happy Friday!!!!!! I can’t believe I leave TOMORROW for Sonoma…the day has finally arrived! Eek!

This morning I had a snack around 6:00 and then went on a run. I had a piece of Arnold whole wheat bread with pb + 1/2 banana:

The run was…..not so hot. Well actually it was TOO hot! Sort of like running in an oven to be exact. I ran the first three miles and walked the last mile just because my body was pleading for it and I listened. I needed the calmness of a long morning walk this morning way more than I needed a run and I found that out real fast! ;) I might also do some calming yoga later just to quiet my Type A mind—I’m sure some of you can relate!
When I got home all I was craving was juice and I wasn’t hungry in the least bit. I made another juice using kiwi, parsley, green apple and 2 stalks of celery

IMG_1881.JPG
I’m telling you, friends, the kiwi MAKES the juice! Its so delicious and refreshing! I’ll probably snack later but the thought of breakfast right now is sort of gagging me. :( When I get anxious about something, I either eat a lot or I don’t eat at all and right now my body is just telling me to cool it. I’ll eat when I’m hungry!
I have a ton to get done today—better get crackin’!

I’ve never tried that combination of vegetable juice before but looks yummy! I’m sorry your run didn’t go as planned, but sometimes it is best to not burn yourself out especially when your training for something. Have a great trip!

I completely relate to that feeling of not being able to eat when you’re nervous! It’s not even like ‘emotional’ eating – my body feels like it will puke if I try to put anything in it when I feel that way!

You’ll do brilliantly in Sonoma – have fun and thanks for all the fun wine tips!

Yay for listening to your body :) I love long walks + yoga as a combo to calm my Type A mind!

Fresh kiwi juice is so yummy, so I can understand why it makes an awesome addition!

First off, don’t be nervous because you are FANTASTIC and you are going to knock their socks off! :D

Secondly, I need to try that kiwi in the juice trick. I had my first juice yesterday–carrot, apple, ginger, celery, and something else that I can’t remember at the moment. It was really good and it surprisingly made me full. I was expecting it to just be a “beverage” of sorts but it instead filled my tummy and I ended up only eating half of my pre-planned/packed lunch. It was an unexpected yet great “surprise.”

Oh god yeah, I mapped out a plan and started officially training for the Army Ten Miler yesterday, and it was SO hot i almost died. I was supposed to do 4 miles but did like 3.5 instead and walked a bit, too. Ugh!

Hey Jenna,

I’ve noticed that you have a lot of pint glasses from places in the Northeast! I’m seeing this Cheers one and also thinking of the Seadog Brewery in Maine. Are those just from your travels or have you spent a lot of time up here?

Way to listen to your body, it definitely makes me feel better when I do. And I agree, kiwi’s are so good in juices and Green Monsters. I add one to my GM and really loved the punch of flavor I got.

Woo-hoo for Sonoma!!!!

That juice sounds fabulous! I tried kiwi in a green monster once but just by itself…I’m sure mixed with other fruits it would be better (I didn’t care much for it). Have a great day and an awesome time in wine country ;-)

You should mention in your interview that Murphy-Goode’s Zin was mentioned in Wine Spectator in July – it was a featured value. :) Good luck! I hope we will be reading a year’s worth of blogs about wine, which is DEFINITELY one of my FAV topics! I need to try that Murphy-Goode (in California, we have SOOOO many great wines to choose from that I have not gotten to this one yet).

Hey Jenna,

Safe travels to you! I have a question.. I noticed that within the past couple of days you’ve started using Arnold whole wheat bread instead of the Ezekiel Bread. Any particular reason? Monetary reason or do you think the Arnold bread has more nutritional value? better taste?

Reply

46 jenna July 17, 2009 at 4:55 pm

Natalie,

The Arnold bread was sent to me as a sample and since we were out of Ezekiel bread I started to use it (I didn’t want to go to the store!). I do really like the Arnold bread because its SUPER soft, but Ezekiel will always have my heart :)

Ya know, I so often hear people saying you gotta PUSH through those hard workouts. I totally love how you just went with it and walked the last mile :) There are times when it’s okay to charge through, but some days you just gotta do what the body wants ;)
