Behind The Butter

So, You Want a Bike?

This is a very special and exciting post!

So, as you know because I told you over the weekend, I never really intended on “keeping” my bike. My plan all along has been to either give it back to Echelon or donate it to raise more money for the Livestrong foundation. It’s a brand new, beautiful bike but just isn’t for me. But I know I can use it to do a lot of good and I’m proud to ride on Sunday and raise money for such a good cause.

With that being said, here’s the deal. I’m going to auction off my new bike to one of you. 100% of the money raised go straight to cancer research as part of the Livestrong Foundation and I will ship you out the bike next week after the event. I’ll ride on Sunday with you in mind and that will keep me going. 🙂

The bike is a Felt FitWoman road bike…brand new as of February. It’s the ZW2 model and is super lightweight and comfortable. I’m 5’6 and this bike fit me perfectly and was very easy to ride. The bike retails at about $4,999, making this the highest priced raffle I’ve ever done on the blog.

IMG_4442

I installed and paid for the pedals myself and they work great….I had them loosen up a bit when I was having issues clipping in and out but they are wonderful for a beginner. Just try not to fall over at the stop signs like me. Sigh.

Since this is a BIKE we are raffling off, people, the rule is you have to donate $20 to enter…..$40 if you want me to enter your name TWICE, giving you more of a chance to win. Also, I’m asking that the winner pay the $50 shipping charge….but I think that’s pretty fair. You would still get a brand new road bike for only about $70!

Please make the donation to my fundraising page and I will keep all your information in an Excel spreadsheet.

The auction will go on until Thursday (5/20) of this week. On Friday I will notify the winner.

Thank you for your support….I’m really excited about this!

I just donated! I really really really hope I win! I have just started getting into cycling, and I’m doing another triathlon this weekend with my mountain bike. (Cue look of embarassment). My husband and I have been going through some tough financial times, so buying a nice bike is totally out of the question. But to win it, while donating to Livestrong?? That would be PERFECTION! Thanks for this opportunity!!

I am so excited about the raffle! I already made my pledge. I am signed up to ride in a the Triple Bypass here, in Colorado. I have a junky bike, so this would be perfect!
    Can we only enter twice?

    • jenna

Hey Jenna! This isn’t related to your post, but I had a question about moving. I know you have just recently moved into a new apartment. As I begin to pack to move to my second apartment, I have realized how much stuff I have accumulated! I’ve noticed that you seem to pack lightly—especially since moving cross country–but do you have any tips on how a girl can live “lightly.” I feel like I need to declutter my life, because after this move I will be moving again after graduation to start my new life as a college graduate. So I was just curious to know if you had any advice on living simply…you do it so well!
Keep it up Jenna, you are such an amazing young woman and I admire your strength 🙂

I think that this might be the absolute perfect time to let you know how inspiring you and your blog are to me allllll the way in Mumbai. You have me craving about quitting my job and doing something I feel truly passionate about and of course to move to wine country! 🙂 But that is besides the point. What a great raffle! And a great way to raise money for a good cause.
Bike fit is VERY important and you should probably indicate that a small Felt is the best fit for someone that is between 5’0″ and 5’4″ (http://www.feltbicycles.com/Resources/Documents/Felt%20Size%20Chart%2009_xls.pdf). You can’t just adjust the seat and get this bike to fit someone who is 5’7″…

  • Cynthia (It All Changes)
    May 17, 2010 at 12:06 pm

My doctors and PT’s recommended biking but I didn’t want to pay the huge price. This is a great opportunity for me to win it at a much reduced cost.

And Jenna I think this is an awesome way to continue to raise funds for a great cause. Thank you.

  • LesleyG
    May 17, 2010 at 12:21 pm

I think this is a great idea for a fund-raiser! And it’s not just because I happen to be 5’6″. 🙂 As for all the other “fall out” or whatever you want to call it, I’m sorry people react in certain ways. It’s just the weird balance of the world or something, we can’t explain it. I have only a fraction of traffic on my site that you have on yours, and I still get the same thing sometimes with people making assumptions or thinking they know the whole story. I am not sure there’s any way around it. Anyway, as long as you have good people in your life to keep you centered and grounded and you listen to the good heart I know you have, you’ll always rise above!
Take care, ride hard, and have fun!
