Well, it’s a rainy and cold morning here in Sonoma County, that’s for sure. I could not fall asleep last night for the life of me and originally had planned to wake up at 6:15 and do a yoga podcast but….lack of sleep + rain and cold made it easy for me to sleep in a little bit. I have to be at work early this morning so I’m a little rushed anyways.
Breakfast was overnight oats, although this morning was totally a morning for hot oatmeal!
I used:
- 1/2 cup oats soaked overnight in 1/2 cup soymilk with sea salt and dried cherries
- in the morning, added whopping spoonful almond butter
- 1/2 cup yogurt
- 1/2 banana
- cinnamon
- maple syrup
SO good. I love this stuff!
I’m gulping down some french press and rushing to pull on sweaters, scarves and rain coats this morning. Brrr!!
Happy Monday!

October 19, 2009 at 9:25 amJenna, I just stumbled across your site today, a beautiful synchronicity! What encouragement! I must say that the pic of you in the one green shirt and your necklace looked like (half an angel’s wing) well you just look radiant in your photos! I am still growing so much on my healing journey and ache to glow like this! 🙂 I am currently considering a more plant-based diet.. and already I don’t eat much meat, though I don’t feel the need to say black or white rather ‘balance’ as you say. Anyway, I look forward to following your blogs and I wanted to say that one pic brought me close to a few tears cause of what it spoke to me on the inside of wellness and truly embracing the lifestyle to support all that I can be! 🙂 so thanks! you’re part of a divine blogroll today as I’m making some new decisions to take it up a notch further! Namaste! ~Jen

October 19, 2009 at 9:39 amDoing some catch up on your last few posts right now. First- major congrats on the SELF magazine piece. I LOVE that you put in on the fridge, haha AWESOME. Second- I just might be beating you in the orange root veggie consumption. So good! Third- I’m loving your new embrace of LOCAL foods. After reading “Animal Vegetable Miracle” by Barbara Kingsolver, I was at first sad to give up bananas, but the discovered so many awesome local fruits at the farmer’s market, that I forgot all about bananas. Rather than focus on what’s missing, it’s about discovering new foods (for the record, cherimoyas and sapote are awesome nana subs I’ve found here in Cali). Ok and Last- Your table-less style of floor eating is way more fun than at a boring hard brown table.

October 19, 2009 at 12:10 pmI looooove dried cherries in oats! I hope your gray chilly weather doesn’t come our way. We finally have sun and some warmth in Boston after snow yesterday!

October 19, 2009 at 12:50 pmLove all the cinnamon on those oats! I just finished a jar of cinnamon – it’s the only spice that ever gets used up completely in my house! I love to add it to everything: apples, bananas, sweet potatoes, oatmeal, buttered toast, chili, popcorn, yogurt, cappuccinos, etc.

October 19, 2009 at 1:53 pmThose oats look yummy! But I understand about the cold weather – I’m in England and it is FREEZING…I’m very much a warmth and sunshine girl, so I’m finding the transition difficult!
Hope your ankle is beginning to feel better, and have a fabulous week!

October 19, 2009 at 5:46 pmHot oats are one of my favorite winter time breakfasts. And fall time, and summer time, but definitely one of my favorite cold weather breakfasts. They’re filling and warming – sooo good!

October 19, 2009 at 7:29 pmYum! I adore cinnamon. I am totally with you on the sleeping in…I cannot seem to get myself out of bed in the morning…I tend to regret it later, and yet I do the same thing the next day. I blame it on the colder mornings and weather now and the dark! Ugh – I miss the bright sun streaming through my window…oh well, could be worse. Soon it’ll be dark in the a.m and when I get off work :(. Hope you get some yoga in and keep up the good eats and great pics…I’m not a huge oatmeal eater, but I think all you Foodie Bloggers are going to change that 🙂

October 19, 2009 at 7:30 pmCold weather definitely makes me want warm oatmeal – I’m worried that may be my dinner for the entire winter. It already SNOWED here in Boston yesterday. Not ready for winter 🙁

October 20, 2009 at 1:34 amI tried those overnight oats just now for breakfast… Fantastic! But holy cow – that’s a huge serving! I am stuffed! Which I guess is a good thing, because I feel like I could tackle the world with a breakfast like that. Thanks so much for posting this sort of thing.
