I loved hearing about everyone’s messy bowl ideas! Speaking of which, check out the new yogurt I found today at the store:
I am stoked about this for a couple reasons. First off, it was on sale for 2 for $3. Secondly, each yogurt contains a whopping 8 ounces compared to the 5 or 6 oz found in other yogurts….and each cup sized portion contains 24 grams of protein! I bought four of them today for $6.00 and compared it to the four cup containers of Fage, which cost $7.29. I feel like I got a real bargain! Now I just have to give it the real taste test =)
After church, on the way to the store, I suddenly got very hungry and dug around in my bottomless pit purse for a snack. All I could come up with was a tiny piece of larabar that has been there for quite some time…it did the trick though even though that flavor is not my favorite!
Today for lunch I made some simple salmon salad and served it atop a toasted Ezekiel english muffin with a babybell cheese on the side. For the salmon salad, I just used a can of salmon and mixed in two chopped stalks of celery, a pinch of curry powder and a couple large globs ofย all natural canola oil mayo. It was delicious and very filling!
After lunch I started my cookie baking….this time it had nothing to do with with my brother’s economics project! ๐ I baked a two times batch of Super Charge Me cookies (out of Eat, Drink and Be Vegan).
Lookin’ good!
I think my dad’s lunch was better than mine today! I made him a chicken, hummus, cheese and avocado sandwich on my homemade olive bread….with a super charge me cookie on the side!
I think I should just set up a cot and sleep in the kitchen because I am there SO much!!! ๐
This afternoon I am planning on some heading across the street to check out the YMCA. It seriously is RIGHT across the street (I could throw a rock and hit it) and Sarah and her husband work out there and love it. I wasn’t even thinking about joining a gym when I moved back here because I wanted to just join a yoga studio, but unfortunately, I can never go to actual yoga classes because of my work schedule…they all either are in the morning or at night. I love doing yoga in my living room but sometimes you just want to be around other people, ya know? The Y is affordable and I can ride my bike there in the afternoons after work if I want. We’ll see if I like it!
See you tonight—-I’m making a feast for dinner! ๐

February 22, 2009 at 11:41 amI love the little Babybell cheeses. I hope the Y works out for you! It is actually one of the pricier gyms here in Bethesda, but offers tons of great classes and even has a pool!

February 22, 2009 at 11:47 amso glad you’ve gotten Voskos down in Florida! I’ve been eating it for a year or so now, and I truly love it! I’m a Fage/Greek Yogurt snob, and finding this has certainly made my wallet and stomach happy. I agree, the 1c serving is a huge plus…I need a little more than 5oz ๐
Yumm, SUpppaaa Charge Me cookies look delish!

February 22, 2009 at 12:09 pmbeing around other people in a gym (or even running outside with lots of people around) definitely motivates me more than working out alone in my apt.
i just bought a can of salmon for the first time — thanks for giving me a quick idea for what i can do with it!
and yes, your dad’s sandwich sounds/looks deeeeeeeeeelicious.

February 22, 2009 at 12:10 pmI love Voskos yogurt! I eat the full-fat kind though ๐ Does anyone know why full-fat Greek yogurts have less protein than the non-fat kind? I want protein but I like my fat, too!

February 22, 2009 at 12:10 pmNice new yogurt find!! I’ve heard good things about them but I’m a loyal Chobani girl so far! That’s sweet of your to make your dad’s lunch – my dad wouldn’t touch hummus with a ten foot pole!

February 22, 2009 at 12:15 pmGreat new find! What a great source of protein, I wish they made vegan greek yogurt haha
Thank goodness for Larabars, they always save the day =)
Ooo and those cookies look phenomenal, I’ve really got to try that recipe.

February 22, 2009 at 12:18 pmI’ve wondered about that brand of yogurt; I’ll be interested to see what you think! Both of your lunches look amazing…much better than I’d normally do on a Sunday!

February 22, 2009 at 12:37 pmYum! Love avocado! Hummus + avocado sounds amazing!

February 22, 2009 at 12:46 pmVoskos is GOOD (I remember trying the 2% and thinking it was A.MAZING a while back! Chobani 2% is like WOHHH though. Seriously, SO MUCH BETTER than Fage 2%. I was totally there at one point… Gotta get back on that 2% kick, yaherd!)
So I had an amazing vinyasa class today and while laying in Savasana felt so much more at peace than I did before I got there. It was A.MAZING. Thanks again for this gift, buddy. Love Love Love.

February 22, 2009 at 12:55 pmLove those cookies, haven’t made them in months!
Good luck with the Y I hope you like it. I know what you mean, I want to work out around people who feel the same way,not just do crunches alone in my dorm room, haha!

February 22, 2009 at 1:32 pmI am always so jealous at the huge variety of Greek Yogurts you guys have in the US. There is literally ONE kind here, and its not plain!

February 22, 2009 at 1:54 pmYour dad’s lunch reminds me of when I make my hubs lunch and it looks so good, I think, “Why didn’t I make that for myself?”
It’s fun to hang at they YMCA!

February 22, 2009 at 2:07 pmHaha, sometimes I feel that way with always being in the kitchen. Its partially my own fault though because even if I’m not cooking its where my laptop is!

February 22, 2009 at 2:08 pmThat salmon salad looks so yummy!! I need to make some soon me thinks.

February 22, 2009 at 2:13 pmHah, I keep a Lara bar stashed at the bottom of my bag, too. =)

February 22, 2009 at 3:12 pmYogurt looks great!!!
I hear you about yoga in group classes…We actually talked about it this weekend. Something about energy of all the other people in the room changing the feeling you get from class. It was really neat! Maybe I can use you as my “victim” and teach you some yoga classes!!
Enjoy the rest of your Sunday!

February 22, 2009 at 3:19 pmThat salmon salad and those cookies look so good. Looking forward to hear how it goes at the YMCA.

February 22, 2009 at 3:26 pmI keep hearing good stuff about the Greek style yogurt. I’m going to have to try it one of these days.
And I love yoga but I won’t do it unless I go to a class. It’s just way to hard to get motivated when I am at home. I may stick with it for a while but I always end up getting distracted by stuff. And I much prefer having other people around too.

February 22, 2009 at 4:21 pmCookies and sandwich look amazing!

February 22, 2009 at 4:41 pmhaha I love your ‘set up a cot and sleep in the kitchen’ comment because my family jokes that I should probably just do that since I’m in there so much too!
Kati
February 22, 2009 at 4:47 pmI’ve tried the Greek yogurt, but I just didn’t like it as much as my fave: Stonyfield Vanilla ๐ The Greek does have a ton of protein though!
