Guess who I ran into??!!!!!
Actually, Miss Kath and I have been planning this little get together for weeks but we wanted it to be a surprise for the blog! So, surprise! We had so much fun today, despite my cold π
To start, I met Kath and Matt at their bed and breakfast and together we drove down to the downtown area of asheville. We shopped around for a little bit and finally decided to stop for lunch at The Laughing Seed, a totally AMAZING vegetarian restaurant in the area. It was sooooo good!!!
Everything on the menu looked totally awesome so we decided to all get different things and then taste a little of everyone’s. I got a Cuban sandwich but made with grilled tempeh with a dill pickle, mustard and swiss cheese on foccacia bread. It was pretty much the most amazing sandwich I have ever had but SO huge so I could only eat half. I’m sick, too, so that probably had something to do with my disappointing lack of appetite. Before our entree we tasted the Indian Pakoras, a spicy samosa-like fritter. I had one and a half with sauce. Spicy and good!
After lunch we went to a fun wine tasting downtown! We each had about a one ounce pour of four wines. My favorite was the chardonnay—strange because I’m usually a red girl all the way!
And of course we stopped for chocolates…….I had a sea salt caramel as well as a bit of Kath’s dark chocolate toffee “slab”. SO good!
After that we pretty much ate/drank our way through downtown asheville and we wanted to stop and have another glass of wine but we couldn’t find a fun place that was open at that hour! So, Kath and Matt took me back to the Grove Park Inn, where Ryan and the boys were playing golf all afternoon, and Erin picked me up to go shoe shopping.
Here we are posing with our “emergency snacks” in our purses. How funny we both had kashi bars!! π
But now let’s backtrack a little. I feel like I have so much to tell and so many pictures to share! It just really stinks that I’m sick and we actually had to stop at the drugstore to get some medicine and cut my fever down. What a bummer π I’m trying not to let it ruin the trip though because I’ve been looking forward to this for SO long!
This morning we all woke up late after yesterday and I just had a bowl of leapin’ lemurs with a sprinkle of cheerios with soymilk because I knew lunch was not too far in the future and I didn’t want to fill up.
And as for yesterday! WOW, what a day!!!!!!
We all went down to the clubhouse for the annual “golf cart parade” and “dog parade”. Crazy, but really fun. The people that live here seriously get totally into this and must have planned for months on how to decorate their carts. The theme this year was the Olymics and since we didn’t really plan, our theme for our cart was the “booze-sled team” (it was bobsled team but the boys decided to strap on some whiskey on the front of the cart and make the bobsled read “boozesled” instead. haha).
I had about half of a VERY spicy bloody mary at the club. It actually really cleared up my sinuses but I had to throw it because it was just too spicy and towards the end it really didn’t taste that good to me. Here’s me and Grandma Dot with our drinks yesterday!
Dinner was, of course, a big bbq. They had everything! I had a boca burger with cheddar cheese, mustard, a pickle and ketchup. I also filled my plate with coleslaw, baked beans and potato salad. I didn’t eat that rib on my plate. It seemed good when I got it but way to much food for me to handle…
The wine poured freely to celebrate the holiday of course and we all bundled up in our sweatshirts and tennis shoes and went down to the grass near the clubhouse to watch the fireworks. It was a great show but we were SO close that all the ash from the fireworks rained down on us!
When we got back to the house we all just sat around, lit a fire and chatted. I didn’t have any more wine and only a couple spoonfuls of this massive sundae Ryan made….
Tonight we are going out to dinner at the club and I just took some Tylonel cold so hopefully I will feel better soon. I hate to be a bummer but its so hard when you don’t feel well!
I hope everyone enjoyed their holiday—I know I did! I really feel like I need to hit the gym when I get home though after all this food and drink…definitely feeling a tad on the bloated side. haha πΒ Here are some more random pictures from yesterday:

I really like your style — hope that doesn’t sound creepy π It looks like you had a great 4th of July and a great visit with Kath. For the 4th I had a big barbecue w/ friends for the first time — it’s the first time I’ve been not at home (that is, in the country but not at home) for the holiday. Hope your cold is gone soon! Thanks for the fun post.

July 7, 2008 at 1:53 amSarah,
I think we went to a place called The Asheville Wine Store?! Something along those lines…I don’t really remember. It was right on the main road of downtown though and was a pretty large store.
Cecilia,
I think you are fine but you may want to check with your doctor first just to be totally sure. Try it once and stop if you feel faint!
Nicole R,
Those boots are my baby. I got them years ago on Ebay actually but they are steve madden. I LOVE THEM and wear them any chance I can!!!!!
Steph,
Sweater is from Anthropologie…of course! hehe
Jennifer,
I got that dress actually about 3 years ago from the Jcrew outlet near St.Augustine. I’m sure if you go to Jcrew.com though they have ones very similar to it because that seems like classic jcrew style. Its always my “go-to” dress for outdoor events. I’ve dressed it up and worn it to a wedding before as well!
