Home Sweet Home

Oh.my.goodness. We are FINALLY home after a lovely 12 1/2 hours in the car today throughout the worst weather and a couple “detours” throughout cities along the way (in the way of getting lost). I am totally and completely pooped and don’t even want to think that tomorrow night at this time I will be in school. How is it possible that I am tired after a vacation?! I’m starting to feel a little bit better (of course right when I get home) but I’m still very very stuffy and have a low grade fever. After this post I am going to get in the shower, put on my pjs and take 2 tylonel cold. What a whirlwind couple days! I told Ryan that next time I will pay for us to get plane tickets to fly into Atlanta and drive with Trisha and Jason (Ryan’s cousin and his wife). Craziness!

Last night for dinner we all had one big last dinner together at the club….it was nice but I felt so terrible that I ended up just sipping on tea the whole time. All the girls were drinking this really fun drink called a “woowoo” (fun to say, eh?)—its a mixture of vodka, peach schnapps and cranberry juice. I wanted one because all the other girls got one but I took one sip and knew my body was not in any shape for alcohol. Then, I tried a glass of red wine at dinner and had the same effect….so finally Ryan just ordered me a pot of herbal tea while everyone else had fun cocktails :(. The tea hit the spot though…

Here’s a picture of all us Whittemore girls (well, I’m not a whittemore girl…..yet. haha πŸ˜‰ Ryan’s cousin’s wife, me, Erin, Grandma Dot, Ryan’s mom and his aunt. All with our woowoos. Check out my shoes. They are the pride of my life.

Dinner was a huge buffet. I felt gross and didn’t know what I wanted to eat so I loaded my plate with everything but hardly ate anything. Hate that! I only ate the mussels/clams and the sweet potatoes from this plate. I decided they were pretty good though and went up for more, with a piece of soft bread. I got the corn but didn’t eat it. Then, I grabbed two small pieces of chocolate cupcake for dessert. Ahh, the strange things you crave when you are sick.

This morning we rushed to get out of the cabin early. I made a quick 1.5 packets of HempPlus oatmeal with blueberries and took coffee for the road.

img_1459.JPG

We stopped around 1:30 for lunch outside of Columbia. I got a 6 inch subway chicken breast sandwich on honey oat with honey mustard, provolone cheese and tons of veggies. Also, they had these totally yummy “veggie” chips.

I drove through the worst rainstorm of my life. Everyone basically was pulling over and my knuckles were white from grasping the steering wheel. I hate that!!!!! And, for some reason I was totally craving a McDonald’s vanilla cone. It was really really really really good.

We stopped at Pita Pit for dinner and I just got a hummus pita with veggies, hot sauce and a sprinkle of feta.

NO MORE FOOD!!!! I am stuffed, bloated and feel the need to detox. The thought of wine makes me want to gag, as does bbq. I think this week coming up I will focus on working out (hopefully tomorrow I will feel better finally!!), fresh produce and light meals. Not a diet really but after a weekend of eating whatever you want, whenever you want, any girl feels the need to tone back up.

I am hitting the sack!!! back to normal blogging schedule and life in general tomorrow!

Looks like you had a great vacation…too bad you were sick though πŸ™
Oooo, the McDonald’s cone…I had a craving for one the other night so we walked to get one…so good. I can’t remember the last time I had been in a McDonald’s before that. The fried food smelled a little icky, but the ice cream was oh so good. Love soft serve sometimes!
Hope you’re back to feeling normal tomorrow!

Jenna, I feel the same way – not sick, that was earlier this week, but kinda gross after a big splurge weekend. Unfortunately, this week is busy so I won’t be able to do all the workouts I usually fit in. I’m really looking forward to seeing how you get back on track and trying to do the same!

I feel the need to eat more cleanly as well. My body feels a bit blah eating too much desserts and I just feel all sugared-out. It doesn’t help that I still have cheesecake and carrot cake that I bought yesterday and I will definitely eat them.

So, I am now craving astringent and bitter foods. . .like onions and bittergourd. I went to the gym earlier and my post-workout meal is always something sweet so I kinda feel like gagging now.

Hope you feel better soon. “)

Hi Jenna, I love your blog! I really enjoyed your post’s (and Kath’s) about Asheville. I live in Greensboro (just a few hours a way). I asked Kath about Charleston and she mentioned that you went to school in there so I thought I’d ask you this question too. I’ve heard so much about Charleston but I’ve never been and neither have my friends but we’re thinking of planning a β€œgirls trip” in the fall (3 or 4 days). Any places you would recommend (restaurants, bars, sight-seeing, places to stay)? Thanks!

Feel better!!! -PS- Mcdonalds soft serve vanilla cones are major! Like, beyond. Not too sweet, ice cold, super smoothe. Not too big. A.mazing. And not bad for a 130 calorie treat! πŸ™‚ (According to Women’s Health Mag πŸ™‚ )

Does peach shnapps have alcohol in it? If so, do you know the percentage?

Aww that’s too bad that you were feeling so crappy and couldn’t enjoy the delicious looking food and fun “woowoo” drinks like everyone else, what a bummer! At least you still partook in most of the fun though, even if you were feeling pretty off during it.

Hope you are feeling fully better for the beginning of a new week!

McDonald’s vanilla cone is seriously my favorite treat, how sad (and lucky for my boyfriend’s wallet! haha) is that?!

I definitely know what you mean about having to “detox”…too bad I have about a million birthday parties and other things that will most definitely involve fried food, cake and frozen custard this week! Those things aren’t even “treats” once your so burned out on them…

This is TOTALLY random but does anyone else ever feel as if they’re “skinnier” or even LESS bloated after a few days (FEW days) of eating not to healthfully?! I noticed that my stomach is way flatter on my “off” days of healthy eating. Maybe it’s because I’m filling it will less voluminous foods such as salads and stuff? Or maybe I’m actually eating less than I’m used to because I think it’s so unhealthy? Not quite sure…

    Megan
It’s interesting you feel that way! I’m the total opposite–feel totally gross after stuffing myself with junk, but not so much after stuffing myself with veggies and stuff.
Do you get that feeling every time you go off health foods? Or just every other time?

    Jenna
So sorry you weren’t feeling well! πŸ™
And I feel the same way–it sucks when you have all this amazing food to grab and you don’t feel like eating! I always feel like I’m missing out when that happens–and the feeling doubles if it’s a buffet!
    Mmmm McD’s vanilla cone…so sinfully delicious πŸ˜€

Yes Meghan! I feel the same as you. Sometimes I joke and say I should live on cheeseburgers, I feel better than when I eat big salads and lots of fresh fruit. ha. So happy I’m not the only one!! πŸ™‚

I love love love those Flat Earth Veggie crisps. I took a bag camping with me this weekend, and they were wonderful. I was excited to see them on your blog this morning πŸ™‚

Sounds like you had a great trip – oh, and I love those shoes!

    Julie,

I LOVE and miss Charleston! Restaurants to hit are definitely Coast, Magnolias or Blossom, SNOB and Hanks. There’s tons of really fun bars on King street but my personal favorites are King Street Grill and Ravel (a super wine bar). For places to stay I would check out small bed and breakfasts because there are a ton in the area. Look for something on King street or Calhoun street. I’m so jealous! I would kill to go on a girls trip to charleston…you will have a blast just walking around! The shopping and dining is incredible!

    Nicole R,

Unfortunately those shoes have been with me for about 4 years now–I used to work at a cute sandal shop ! They are by a brand called “Tribeca” though. I love them and don’t wear them enough…

    Fitnessista,

I’m pretty sure they are actually made from veggies. They come in a couple great flavors but this ranch one is my favorite!

    Nat,

I honestly don’t know about peach schnapps. Anyone?!

I think we drove through the same storm! I was driving from Georgia to Charleston, SC and hit rain in Columbia down to Orangeburg, SC on I26. It was TERRIBLE! I didn’t stop but I was praying the whole way. That was scary!
