A Vacation in My Mind

Hey friends!

Still at my parent’s house, plugging away! The other day when I wrote the post on True/Slant about how to stay healthy when ordering take-out, I had a TON of questions of what do I, personally, eat when fast food is the only option. You ask, I provide! Here’s Staying Healthy, No Matter What: Part II. 🙂

I got a surprise in the mail this morning, which is making my life a whole lot more comfortable!!

This Book Buddy is PERFECT for those of us that sit with a laptop all day long! A big cushy pillow straps onto your laptop (holding tight with cute colorful ribbon) and lets you type away in comfort. This will be getting a lot of good use!
I ate lunch at my parent’s house today and dove right into the Amy’s “quarter pounder” veggie burgers I covet from their freezer. I love these burgers because they are so substantial and have 21 grams of protein in them!
IMG_1006.JPG
I had mine with a light laughing cow cheese, honey mustard and broccoli slaw on a whole wheat Arnold’s sandwich thin. PAPAYA (!) and watermelon on the side!

IMG_1005.JPG
I do love my tropical fruit and papaya is just so darn pretty. Oh, how I wish I were on a tropical vacay right now!

IMG_1003.JPG
It has sort of a different taste though because its not very sweet. My mom said a great way to eat papaya is with a lime squeezed over it!
I haven’t even gotten around to washing my face yet today. How gross am I? Today IS my “off” day at the gym but I think I’ll walk on the treadmill at 4:00 just to stretch my legs (and watch Oprah…obvi). 😉
Hope everyone is having a great day so far!
Just an FYI: today is the LAST day to vote for yours truly for the Murphy-Goode dream job! Tomorrow they close off applications and pick the top 50 candidates!! ahhhhh!!!!!

No worries on the lack of face washing…I haven’t showered and its been almost two hours since I got home from the gym. And you thought your papaya wasn’t very sweet…

The laptop pillow is adorable!! I always spend the evening with a pillow on my lap and it drives my husband crazy – he’s always worried the (his) laptop is going to slide off and crash to the floor.

My vote is in for you!

That papaya is still very pretty though–love the color. I heard the smaller papayas were sweeter and meant for eating plain, while the humongous ones are mostly for cooking (i.e. Thai papaya salad).

That Book Buddy does look very comfortable and cute too 🙂

Cool laptop pillow! Sometimes when I’m working on my sofa, my laptop gets hot and sticks to my legs, bleh. I also love broccoli slaw + the Amy’s burger. I’m getting hungry, it’s time for lunch!

Don’t feel bad about not washing your face yet – I worked out for an hour this morning and was done by 8:15 but didn’t make it into the shower by 10 because I was so immersed in writing!

I was wondering when we’d here more about the Murphy-Goode job; I’ve already voted from all three of my different email addresses!

What a great invention! I need one of those asap!

Amazing lunch too! I don’t think I have ever had raw papaya- looks good though.

Great way to spend the 4pm hour. Walking is enjoyable to me and doesn’t feel like exercise. It’s a great way to unwind.

    Have a wonderful afternoon!

      Acadia,

well I’ve never been an oat eater in the summer. Right now its about 95 degrees outside with 100% humidity ! And my amazing meal smoothies have been giving me more energy than oats EVER have! I think I might be a convert…..

Ok, I gotta ask–and maybe you’ve answered this question before, but how do you score all that fun loot?! Do you find companies and ask for samples, or do they just send it to you? I’m dying to know! (not that I’m trying to score free loot for my tiny blog or anything, but I may be a teeny bit jealous!)

      Callina,

Well that is the good part about my job. People do send me free things. It sort of makes up for me being incredibly poor! 😉

I really like papaya. I was a little scared of it until I visited Thailand a while ago… they eat a ton of it there! It’s out on the breakfast table every day, along with pineapple and mango and other tropical fruits… I became obsessed, especially since it’s not that common here in my native Chicago!

I die for your book buddy pillow!!! I love sitting around with my laptop ontop of a throw cushion but I know it’s bad for the comp without the air circulating beneath – looks like this pillow solves it! Hmm, note to self for the xmas list… 🙂

I LOVE that book buddy idea. I might have to invest once school starts up again. Or try manufacturing my OWN which could get interesting…haha.

I’ve tried papaya once and although I thought it was good, I did find it to be pretty darn plain. I’ll have to try the lime squeeze next time.

Best of luck in making the TOP 50!

LOVE the laptop pillow! I always use a pillow anyway, when I’m on the laptop, because I’m usually layin’ on the couch (yeah, I’m cool like that). I read your article on what you eat at a fast food restaurant (via your Twitter link) and loved it! That’s like Arby’s here … I love their spicy curly fries. I just can’t say no sometimes! But you gotta live, right?
One question for you: I’m heading out to the family’s place for a BBQ on the weekend and offered to bring salad. Do you have any suggestions for an easy and light vegetable salad and an easy and light fruit salad? I’m nervous about going because I have a bad tendency to overindulge. Would it be wrong if I brought an Amy’s burger for the BBQ’er to make?
Tried Papaya the other day and it does have an odd taste … like a mild kiwi or something. Good, but I’m still a little unsure …

Cool laptop pillow! That looks super comfy! I really want to love papaya, but I just don’t. I keep trying it hoping that I like it because it’s so colorful and exotic, but I’m just not a fan. I think it is literally the ONLY fruit I don’t like!
