Dinner

Almost 1,000 Strong For Greens!

Good evening!

I am just FLOORED that almost a thousand of you want this Amazing Meal so much!!!!!!!! I’m going to save the winner for the end of the post just to keep the suspense goin’ πŸ˜‰

First of all, check out my latest article on True/Slant about reducing that mid-day slump! We all get that way often….zero energy after lunchtime, nodding off while watching the office clock……you know what I’m talking about! In my article I address my “secrets” to staying energized and at the top of my “A game” all day long. Here’s a hint: the answer is not coffee.

This afternoon was a great example of why I am so thankful NOT to feel lethargic! I was literally glued to my laptop screen all.day.long. I was reading your hundreds of responses, working on the e-cookbook (love it!), working on the blog summit and writing articles such as the above.

I did get some good work done though and finally learned how to make my sidebar prettier! πŸ˜‰

Gone are the days where my mecca of recipes is scrolled down messily on the side of my blog. Now are the days where we are clean and organized and all you have to do is click the pretty picture to access them all!
I snacked on one of Ange’s amazingly delicious granola bars while I typed away—

And then I headed downtown for my Team in Training nutrition clinic. The clinic was okay. Honestly, I feel like I’m so in tune in my current diet and lifestyle that I really don’t even enjoy hearing about the whole “counting calories/eating three servings of meat per day/having hi-fiber cereal for breakfast” thing. I mean, that may work for some people and the speaker did have great advice that as a whole, Americans are incredibly unbalanced and that leads to the 65% of us that are overweight but I felt like the session was definitely geared to overweight people, which was odd because she was talking to a roomful of endurance athletes.
Anyway, the clinic lasted until almost 8:00 and by that time I was getting, as we say in the blog world, hangry. I was cold, too, since it was storming and I was wearing shorts so when I got home I had comfort food on my mind.

IMG_0998.JPG
Yep, tonight was totally a pb& j (or in my case, an ab&j) kind of night. There’s not much that beats a toasted Ezekiel muffin slathered with almond butter and raspberry preserves. With a hot cup of mint tea, it was the perfect dinner.
To make it even more perfect, I had two Newman’s Own mint oreos for dessert. I took the cookies apart to make them last as long as possible. Soooooo good!

And now, the moment you all have been waiting for (muahahaha)—And the winner of the gigantic 2 lb tub of Amazing Meal is…………………………
Comment number #291—KODI!!
Kodi writes, ” Hi Jenna!! I so totally NEED Amazing Meal Powder. I am a young mom (25:-) of a 2 1/2 year old (Kash) and a 6 month old (Presley)! I stay home with them all day so needless to say I need all the energy I can get!! Between potty training, tantrums, playing and nursing my daughter I am wiped out by about 3pm. I am hoping that adding Amazing Meal powder to my smoothies would carry me through this afternoon slump and also pass on nutrients to Presley! I would also feel great knowing that I was getting energy from healthy ingredients rather than sugar and coffe ….blush…. I could really use a nice surprise like this too to get me through my week πŸ™‚ Have a great day!”

Congrats, Kodi!!! Shoot me an email with your shipping address and I’ll pass it along to my contact at Amazing Grass. I hope you love it and it brings you enough energy to chase around your rugrats all day! πŸ˜‰
In my opinion you EACH need a tub of Amazing Grass based on your reasons!! I’ll be the first to admit that this stuff IS expensive. But you know what would be more expensive? Doctor’s visits, chemo, prescription drugs, vitamins, surgery, hospital visits, a face lift…………your health is the number one most important thing that you own. If you don’t have your health, you have NOTHING and things can change so incredibly fast. You only have one body and you should treat it right. Besides, how good will that new dress look if you’re sick all the time and have sallow, tired eyes? Spend money on what lasts, not on fads. Plus, if you buy Amazing Grass you will likely be able to quit your coffee addiction and can save mega bucks by not buying Starbucks every morning before work! See?! I know this only because after drinking greens I WAS able to quit drinking coffee like an addict and my bank account has thanked me for all the dollars saved.

Sidebar looks awesome! Your Newman’s mint oreos look like the perfect treat!

p.s. do you always eat your kiwi with the skin? I’m so used to eating mine sans skin, but I know a lot of people keep the skin on — do you like the taste?

Congrats, Kodi, so glad you won it for your kids :).

I love AB&J type of days–mmmmm. I agree that the “typical” nutrition advice is more for obese people. Typical nutrition articles found in popular magazines don’t catch my interest anymore.

Great job on the sidebar Jenna. It looks fabulous!

Sorry to hear that the Team in Training wasn’t exactly ideal. I suppose there are people who would benefit from that information, but it probably wasn’t the right place to address those concerns. At least you were able to treat yourself to a delicious dinner when you got home! I’m definitely trying out those EM! πŸ™‚

    Hi Jenna,

So I actually stumbled upon your blog by reading Kath’s blog, and have not only really enjoyed it, but honestly can totally relate to your lifestyle and how you manage your everyday eating. I even have a husband who reminds me of Ryan and I keep trying to convince him that he should try Green Monsters…needless to say we are not quite there yet. Anywho, I have a couple of questions. The first being, I used to count calories prior to getting married, but after decided that it was too annoying and unenjoyable to have to count everything I put into my body. Although I have gained about 5 pounds since getting married I contribute it to one a weight I likely could not maintain without being crazy and I have put on a bunch of muscle since. My question is do you weigh yourself at all, because I currently do daily and I find it usually makes me feel bad about myself or throws my day off if it is different from what I think it should be. And 2… can you explain briefly how the blogging world works as far as employment? I am just curious because it seems like many bloggers do it for a living and I just have no idea how that is possible or how they are actually making a living if that makes sense.

Thanks and really love the blog!!

      katieDavis,

I don’t really weigh myself all that much, no. I actually have never even owned a scale! I go by how my jeans fit and think that is the healthiest way to go. If you are eating healthy and exercising you really should not have anything to worry about anyway! It definitely takes time to lose the dependence on the scale if you are used to weighing yourself multiple times a day but I urge you to THROW YOURS AWAY and learn to slowly rely on how your clothes fit. You don’t want to feel bad about yourself every day. That’s just silly!

As far as the blogging world, I am hooked up with advertisers that pay me based on general traffic to my site. To supplement that though I also write freelance articles for a few online sources.

“But you know what would be more expensive? Doctor’s visits, chemo, prescription drugs, vitamins, surgery, hospital visits, a face lift…………your health is the number one most important thing that you own.”

    Hi Jenna,
While the above sentence does make sense. I, myself, drink Amazing Meal with my shake every morning and I feel great. However, I am really offended that you think by eating healthy you can avoid “chemo” or cancer. A very dear loved one of mine suffered from cancer for years – not because she ate unhealthy, processed foods, but because it was in the cards for her. You seem like an intelligent person – but your post sounded/is VERY ignorant. I wasn’t going to respond, but I felt the need to get this out of my chest. You can’t avoid some things, unfortunately, just by eating “greens.”

Good point about the price of Amazing Meal…let’s see if I can convince my mom of that!

Congrats to Kodi, she definitely needs this stuff πŸ˜‰

You are so right about the cost of this vs. the cost of health care and the savings you get from not having to have other things like coffee.

    Thanks for being you!

In regard to quitting coffee, I understand the health benefits of giving it up but what if you just really love the taste of coffee? I have given it up in the past but I really enjoy the way coffee tastes and I missed it. Coffee to me is like dark chocolate for you! Maybe I will just start mixing some of my Greens Plus powder into my morning coffee! : )

    • jenna
      June 18, 2009 at 9:55 am

      Stacy,

If you love it, don’t worry about quitting! You should never deprive yourself of something you love and to be sure, you can still definitely be super healthy while drinking coffee!

    Jenna,

Thanks so much, I really appreciate hearing that. I think often a million people can tell you something and you just don’t want to hear it. But I have been thinking for some time it is not worth it to be so dependent on the scale or let it rule my life.

Also thanks for explaining how the blogging works…I honestly was just curious, it is such an interesting concept to me.
