Breakfast/ Lunch

Caffeine Headache + Amazing Lunch!

Happy Good Friday!

Wow, what a day I have had. I need a nap. Asap. 🙂 I know coffee isn’t a “bad” thing but I’m trying to detox my system a little bit so today was my first day without it and BOY OH BOY DID I FEEL IT. Caffeine headache, I am there. Sleep? I need some. I started my day with this powerful smoothie to replace my usual 4 cups (gasp! I know!!) of black coffee

I used:

  • 1 apple, cored and sliced
  • 1/2 banana
  • BIG handful spinach
  • 2 kale leaves
  • 1 tbsp pumpkin seed buttah for protein! (each tbsp has 5.5 grams!)
  • 1 tbsp ground flax
  • 2 cups cold water
  • a few ice cubes

And, WOWZA, it made 32 ounces of amazingly yummy green smoothie! I sipped on it all morning long and while I still felt incredibly sleepy without my usual jolt of caffeine, it was nice and expanded like a balloon in my tummy to keep me full until breakfast.

Breakfast was a huge chocolate-cashew-banana breakfast cookie!

img_65061

Made with 3/4 cup oats, 1 spoonful cashew butter, 1/2 scoop protein, 1/2 banana, 3 tbsp almond milk and a few chocolate chips. After which I broke down and bought a Yerba Mate at work because I NEEDED A BOOST!

Since I was not eating lunch until around 2:00 with Abbie (!!!), I snacked on this Primal Strip to give me a boost of protein and keep me going!

And, as for lunch, it was AWESOME!!! I met Abbie, who I have become very good friends with via the blogworld, and we went to lunch at Grassroots…my favorite! We had so much to talk about it (crazy how well you feel like you know a person when you read about their life every day!!) and chatted for hours. She even brought me goodies!! Her homemade raw donut holes (DROOL), dehydrated apple pie cookies, chia seeds (which I have been looking for everywhere and cannot find!), dried pineapple and fruit leathers!!! gah!!!!!  THANK YOU ABBIE!!!!!!!!!!!! =)

We started off at the restaurant ordering the live sprout wraps to split since we were both starvin’ marvins

img_65091

These were delicious. Delicately wrapped cabbage, carrots, cucumber and sprouts in rice paper and topped with sesame seeds with a yummy dipping sauce! We both had one and it was the perfect thing to start with!

img_65101

Look how pretty!!

And then for my entree, I totally branched out and finally ordered the raw “spaghetti” with treatballs!!!

img_65111

No words can really describe how delicious this was!!!!! The zucchini had been spiraled into looooooong spaghetti noodles and was lightly tossed in a delicious “alfredo” sauce with high protein treatballs made from nuts and live sprouts. I was expecting the treatballs to be on the mushy side, but they were firm and chewy. SO good! Look at how cute Abbie was, spiraling her noodles!

img_6512

I love how I felt so light and energized after this huge plate of “pasta“. It was actually very filling though and I could not even finish it all! Note to self: get a spiralizer ASAP! 😉

Of course we could not resist dessert!!

img_6514

The special of the day was a vegan double chocolate brownie with vegan coconut ice cream and it was 100% too die for. Bliss is all I can say……….the brownie was warm and the ice cream was so rich and delicious. Sigh.

To drink, I had an unpictured glass of iced organic hibiscus tea.

After lunch, we went back to Greenwise so I could show Abbie around the store and educate her on all my breads. 🙂 She loved it but I’m super jealous that she has Trader Joes everywhere and I still have never been to one!!!

I’m home now and about to attempt a nap. I just might be able to do it today since I have had no coffee! Tonight for dinner is a total 360 from lunch...it is my brother’s 19th birthday today (!!) and we are all going out to this local rib and bbq place for dinner. I really am NOT craving this sort of food after my fantastic and healthy lunch but I’m going to be a good sport since it is HIS birthday. We shall see if there are any healthy options on the menu! 😉

See you in a bit!

    Jenna,
YAY for no coffee (girl, I bet you will feel amazing once you get used to it!) and yay for cutie Abbie and raw yummies and GREEN smoothies and fun to come celebrating your precious little brother. HUGS all around for all of THAT! 🙂

Questoin for Jenna or any other breakfast cookie makers!!

Can I make one with NO protein powder? I have never had protein powder of any kind (not even sure what they taste like!) but I’d love to just make it with nut butter, nut milk, oats, etc. IS that possible? Thanks in advance for ANY advice!! I want a cookie for breakfast! 😉

You can email me if ya want!

      Polly!

Gina (Fitnessista) is the QUEEN of the breakfast cookie but I’m SURE you could make it and just not add the protein. Just do however much oats you like (I use 3/4 cup), 1/2 naner, 3 tbsp milk sub and a big scoop of nut butter and press down on a plate overnight! Do tell me how it works…I bet it would be yummy! 🙂

Ok your entire meal looked SOOOO delicious!!!! I’m hungry just looking at it!! I actually make zucchini pasta sometimes, but the zucchinis are too small so they’re not nice and long like pasta 😉 Still delicious though!

I’ve never been to a raw foods restaurant. There’s one somewhere in Minneapolis I think. Your pics and other people’s comments have me really intrigued.
Also, cute photo of you holding the camera. I always end up looking like a big blur when I take a photo of myself. 🙂

I’m not a big fan of raw, but I’m slowly learning a bit more of it. I must say, that lunch dish looks really good. Esp the treatballs!
And you can’t go wrong with warm brownies and icecream, vegan, raw, or regulare. 🙂
