Good MORNING!
I’ve been up since 5:45 for some ungodly reason. I think it’s because I’ve been going to bed earlier these days and, therefore, waking up a the crack of dawn. At least I know I’m getting my 8 hours! Breakfast was overnight oats:

I’m having some issues getting my camera to focus this morning. I’m not sure what’s up…going to have to fiddle with it later. As usual, my oats were a combo of: 1/3 c oats, 1 T chia seeds, 1/3 c soymilk, 1 chobani, banana, cinnamon and 1 T almond butter. I woke up this morning STARVING!!!!!!
I actually have a pretty busy day. I just sent a couple chapters to my editor and need to crank out a few more. Going to yoga bootcamp at 11:45 and then racing to a meeting in the afternoon in “the other valley” (aka Napa).
Please control your excitement:

Noooooooo!! YES!!!!!!!!!!
Am I the only one who was totally obsessed with Oregon Trail last year back in the 90’s?!! Okay, so there’s a good chance I’m still obsessed with it and spent some time this morning searching for a free download of the game for my mac. No big deal. Anyways, now apparently you can get the Oregon Trail APP for your Iphone! I don’t have an iphone but I need one after hearing about this. Seriously now…..I was sort of the champ of getting my oxen across the river, don’t know about you.
I’m off to strategize my food supply for the trip west write several chapters in the book before bootcamp class. Be back!

Crystal
January 12, 2010 at 8:44 amThat is so weird. Went out to dinner with friends last night and Oregon Trail was totally a topic of discussion! Remember at the end you could choose to ford the river or take the long way around the river? Everyone always went across the river because you got to play the sweet river crossing video game! Love it!

January 12, 2010 at 8:46 amI don’t think I ever played that in grade school! Was I deprived or what?

Chloe (No Sugar and Spice)
January 12, 2010 at 8:51 amOh man, I LOVED Oregon Trail – what kid in middle school didn’t? The best part was shooting the big bison and it telling you “you have shot 556 lbs of meat, but can only take 27 lbs on your wagon”.
Man, that would be reason enough for me to get an iphone.

January 12, 2010 at 8:51 amLoved that game! I am so getting this app!!

January 12, 2010 at 9:05 amOH MY GAWSH!! I loved Oregon Trail in elementary school!
I guess now that I’m a vegetarian, killing 60 pounds of bison might not be as thrilling to me as it was when I was 8. 🙂

January 12, 2010 at 9:14 amMmm…yeah..definitely rushing to my phone to purchase that asap. I rememebr “computer time” in elementary school and you would just sit in front of the screen and play Oregon trail. Best time of the day!! 😉

January 12, 2010 at 9:44 amSounds like you’re forging ahead on your book. Just wondering if you could share what types of chapters there will be? Is it broken down into aps, entres, desserts, etc, or chicken, tofu, breads…? Can’t wait to see it! Good luck writing today:)

January 12, 2010 at 9:44 amOregon Trail? What a dweeb I am!! Thought you were referring to the Overland Diaries that I used to read as a docent at the Huntington Library in San Marino. Last night, rain poured down here, windy as the Four Horsemen coming thru. Now calm and bright. National prayer vigil for artist/FB friend Josie worked! She is out of brain surgery and appears all went well! Isn’t it great when something so scary turns around! Wow–turning in chapters, hooray for you!!
Katie
January 12, 2010 at 9:47 amLoveeeed that game!!! My favorite part was shopping for food at the general store before we traveled, haha some things are consistent.

January 12, 2010 at 9:48 amIt’s so funny you mention Oregon Trail…a group of my friends and I were having a very “deep” discussion about our love for it over Christmas break and how we used to play it on the computers in grade school with the black screens with green type. Oh the good ol’ days…how times have changed!!
Christin
January 12, 2010 at 9:50 amI loved Oregon Trail, too! (And where in the world is carmen sandiego!!) Recently tried to download free versions of both those games, but to no avail. 🙁
Like Katie, my favorite activity was going “grocery shopping” haha.

oh, to be young again!

January 12, 2010 at 10:03 amI’m not telling PB about this app. His old diaries (www.mrtrig.com) have SO many entries about Oregon Trail and how he was doing in it. Supposedly he was better than anyone else in class, or so he says.

January 12, 2010 at 10:26 amI found a download of Oregon Trail during college and used to play it during class 🙂 I was a rebel. When I was younger we would name the characters really silly third-grade potty humor names like Mr. Fart or something and we used to think it was the most hilarious thing in the world. Oh man.
Cynthia (It All Changes)
January 12, 2010 at 10:27 amI loved Oregon Trail and was the dork who would stay in at recess and play it. But I almost always won because I learned some good tricks. Not that I remember them now.

January 12, 2010 at 11:43 amFor a moment there I was disapointed that my crackberry would not be able to join in the fun of the Oregon Trail. But now I am seriously jumping around in giddy excitement that there is a crackberry app as well… OH thank gawd!!!
Totally off to find that app….
I see my productivity for the rest of the day completely evaporate.

January 12, 2010 at 12:00 pmI am old enough (29 – heh!) that I used to play Oregon Trail back in the day on actual floppy disks. The oxen and wagons were all green, and just walked across the black screen all the way to Oregon – or death! Mwahaha!

January 12, 2010 at 12:03 pmI loved Oregon Trail! I haven’t played in forever! I wish I could get my hands on it! I look forward to reading about your training for the 100 mile bike race. That will be quite an adventure!! Will you be purchasing a road bike?? I’ve always wanted one!

January 12, 2010 at 12:23 pmOMG- I LOVED OREGON TRAIL!!!!! I used to play it all the time when I was little. My friends would play and we would name the characters after ourselves and then the husbands after whatever boy we happened to like at the time. I think my favorite part of the game was the hunting. I was SO good at getting those buffalo. Really, if virtual hunting was an actual job I could have made millions, haha.

January 12, 2010 at 6:44 pmI think you have to be of a certain age group (born in the 80’s) to know about Oregon Trail…I can tell you my friends and I loved it! One of my friends lived near the public library (circa ’89) and we would walk there all the time to play on the ONE computer in the kids section! Ha ha…

January 12, 2010 at 7:40 pmDuudddeee I was IN LOVE with The Oregon Trail. But the 2nd edition – which was more “realistic” than the cartoon 1st edition. I was devastated when it broke 🙁 Honestly though, I’ve tried out the free app for the Iphone and it was pretty dumb. Not really like the computer game at all. Disappointing!
