Good morning!
**Don’t forget to send your weeknight dinner recipe to HelpJennaRun@gmail.com! I’ll be accepting recipes for the new e-cookbook all week long—don’t forget to include a picture if you have one!
We didn’t end up going to bed until around 11:30 last night. Just when I thought everything was perfectly cleaned I caught glimpse of the seven wine glasses that were still dirty sitting on the counter. I HATE going to bed with a mess in the kitchen because then you have more work when you wake up!
This morning I made a big bowl of oat bran!

This bowl contained:
- 1/2 cup oat bran mixed with cinnamon + sea salt
- 1.25 cups water
- 1 banana
- 1 spoonful raw almond butter
- assortment of fresh berries!
It was good but soooo dense. I just cannot seem to handle hot cereal in the summer. I always think this next time will be different but I always end up feeling overheated and heavy afterwards. Enter Green Monsters, cold cereal and almond butter toast……the summer breakfasts of champions! 🙂
Today I have articles to write, cookies to bake and yoga to do. I think its a Dave Farmar kind of day!

June 15, 2009 at 8:15 amI know exactly what you mean about having a messy kitchen! Sometimes I get up like 30 minutes before work just so I can clean it, haha.

June 15, 2009 at 8:37 amhow about a ‘cold’ oatbran? Cook it the night behind, freeze it so you can have it cold for breakfast! 🙂
Have you stopped drinking dairy now? I don’t see you use it in your breakfast.

June 15, 2009 at 8:42 amI know – eating hot oatmeal is tough for me in the summertime when it’s hot out. I like to mix it up with cold smoothies sometimes 🙂 Have a wonderful day!

June 15, 2009 at 8:45 amI always feel like I should be eating cold cereal in the summer, but I love my oatmeal and oat bran so much I usually just sweat my way through it!

June 15, 2009 at 9:05 amFunny, I basically lived off oat bran this winter, but I have no desire to eat it anymore! Now when I wake up in the morning the first thing I want is fresh fruit 🙂

June 15, 2009 at 9:07 amI so feel you on the hot breakfasts in the summer – I ate oats with pb this morning and couldn’t finish it because I ended up feeling all hot and sweaty! Back to the GM’s for me.
I’ll see if I can think of an easy weeknight recipe…

June 15, 2009 at 9:17 amI WISH it was that hot here in PA — not yet! Jenna, do you make oat bran the same way you make oatmeal?
jenna
June 15, 2009 at 9:23 amTammy,
Yep—I just cook it on the stove…takes only about 5 minutes!

June 15, 2009 at 9:21 amhot cereal has been making me hot lately, too, but I was ready for it today because I was freezing for some reason!
dinner last night looked awesome!

June 15, 2009 at 9:36 amOMG, I am the exact same way… I just have NO appetite for warm breakfasts in the summer! Bring on the green smoothies! 😉
Have a wonderful day! And definitely try out the lastest Dave Farmar podcast. It’s not as strenuous as the previous one and much more of a total body workout.
Meg
June 15, 2009 at 9:36 amI have been feeling that way with my oats lately too…they are quite hot for the summer…maybe I should do some cold overnight oats.

June 15, 2009 at 9:41 amI can’t stand a messy kitchen either! It’s much more refreshing to wake up to a clean, orderly house 🙂

June 15, 2009 at 9:50 amI know what you mean about the hot breakfast. In the summer I never feel like oatmeal so i usually have yogurt in the morning. Have a nice day!

June 15, 2009 at 9:58 amAmen to the hot cereal issue! I can stand it on days I don’t work out in the AM. But on workout days!.. forget about it!

June 15, 2009 at 10:00 amJenna,
I just mailed you my submission. Hope you like it. 😀
Oat bran + sea salt is my favorite combo. Sweet and salty together gets me every time!
With Love,

June 15, 2009 at 10:18 amI know what you mean about having hot cereal during summer. It just doesn’t sit right in the tum. Smoothies are definitly my brekkie of choice!

June 15, 2009 at 10:22 amI LOVE dave farmar. He’s amazing and has a sense of humor. Haha! I actually love my warm breakfasts in the summer, I just don’t eat them as often. But when I do, YUMMM!
Have a wonderful day Jenna!

June 15, 2009 at 10:26 amI know what you mean about hot oats–which is why I make overnight Swiss muesli a lot, I can have all the same flavors I use in my oatmeal but without the heat. Plus I save about 10 to 15 minutes of cooking oatmeal in the morning.

June 15, 2009 at 10:27 amHey Jenna! You may have answered this, but do you have a format you prefer for the recipe submissions? Or does a standard Word Doc do it for you 😉 Thanks a bunch!
jenna
June 15, 2009 at 10:48 amKori,
Yep—if you can just copy and paste the recipe into the body of the email that would be the easiest for me! Pictures are a great bonus if you have them! Thank you!

June 15, 2009 at 10:46 amI know what you mean about the hot oatmeal! Lately I’ve been adding cool items to it like a splash of milk or yogurt and it helps cool them down quite a bit!

June 15, 2009 at 10:52 amI love oat bran!!!!!!! Those berries looks so vibrant, great addition to the oats!

June 15, 2009 at 10:53 amI feel the complete opposite, I keep meaning to give up my oats for smoothies/breakfast cookies but I miss my hot oats too much!

June 15, 2009 at 11:07 amHi Jenna,
I just started a blog, and I’m not sure how to get people to visit/read it! I know your blog is supppppper popular (and it should be, seeing as it’s great!) but how did you get started with it?
jenna
June 15, 2009 at 7:53 pmCourtney,
Just stick with it!! Keep posting daily and invest in a great camera because it will get you far. There was a time when I only had about three readers….Ryan, my mom and Kath! The food blog world is a small one and if you are dedicated, you will get noticed! Don’t give up!

June 15, 2009 at 11:09 amWhen the weather gets warmer I live on breakfast smoothies. A few summers ago, I made a Stonyfield yogurt-fruit-ice smoothie every single morning! I love how a drinkable breakfast cools me off, fills me up, but doesn’t leave me feeling heavy.

June 15, 2009 at 11:19 amI’m with you about the hot cereals. Now I literally crave GMs ALL DAY LONG!!! But the weird thing is that once it’s really late at night, like after dinner and the hour before I go to bed, I begin to crave carb-y comfort foods!!! Hmm, wish I could kick that habit. GMs are good then, but don’t seem to be as satisfying! Maybe I need to experiment and tweak the ingredients I’m using.
Congrast on a fabulous-looking dinner last night!!! I love the way you cooked the fish I will for sure be trying that soon!

June 15, 2009 at 12:04 pmCookies to bake? I expect some recipes!
Still Life in South America
June 15, 2009 at 12:05 pmI hear you on the dishes. I really hate cleaning wine glasses for some reason, but I’m too fussy to leave them next to the sink! 🙂
Is it still possible to purchase the dessert e-book? I couldn’t find a link to that information.
Enjoy your afternoon!
Danielle
June 15, 2009 at 12:13 pmI agree with the hot cereal… a winter time favorite but I’d rather something else during the hotter summer months. Green smoothies, yummm 🙂
Diana (Soap & Chocolate)
June 15, 2009 at 12:19 pmTotally hear you on not wanting to go to bed and leave a mess behind. For me there is no bigger downer to getting up in the morning than seeing the pile of dishes from last night that I inevitably forgot about while in dreamland!

June 15, 2009 at 12:41 pmI love hot cereal in the summer but only if they are paired with a cool drink!

June 15, 2009 at 12:58 pmL-O-V-E oatbran, Scottish porridge oats etc. I usually drop off during the summer, but can’t seem to stop this year (not that that’s a bad thing of course!). I just throw in some honey and flax seed, but I like the idea of peanut or almond butter and fruit.
Maria
June 15, 2009 at 1:21 pmThat big bowl of oat bran looks lovely– but I totally know what you mean by wanting a cooler breakfast when the weather is warm. When it gets 80 degrees+ it’s hard to eat even a delicious bowl of oat bran when it’s that hot!
Have fun doing yoga! Check out the giveaway I’m having from Yoga Downloads if you’re interested :).
